    Introduction

"My First Steps to the World of English"is designed for kindergarten program. The book

isconsidered a series for young learners of English in EFL context. It contains interesting

themes/topics and useful activities that can help children to develop theirEnglish language,

cognitive abilities and creativeskills. Time allocated to cover the book is 2 hours for a unit,

and14 hours for the whole book. The course duration is 7 weeks. The target audience to be

addressed is 5 to 6 years old beginning level kids. The assumption is that kids have already

    learned English(7 weeks and 14 hours)last year.

General purpose of constructing materials is based on the learner-

centerednessphilosophy. It focuses on the individual needs of learners, taking into account skills

that are believed to be crucial to develop(Eisner, 1992, cited in Richards, 2001).

This philosophy can be observed through the activities and topics which aim to teach

English language in a pleasant way using flashcards, cartoons, games, physical activities, art

projects, singing and storytelling. Materials for each lesson are designed taking into account

different learning styles (kinesthetic, tactile visual and auditory) which are common in all ESL

    kids classrooms (Larsen-Freeman, 2000).

The activities chosen for the book lead toward more communicative language teaching

method to engage children in basic oral and written communication.Mixture of created and

authentic materials is used to incorporate published materials with real -world sources(Richards,

2005). The vocabulary items are selected according to kids level age and need. The book has

    progression of complexity.

Aims and Objectives of the book

The aim of the course book is to:

Develop childrens cognitive ability Enhance children'screativity Build up children's English language abilities Enhance children's motivation in learning English through physical activities
