I started work at booker because I was going to be going back to college in September of the same year and needed a part-time job. Booker took me back at the start of that year summer full-time but due to an accident at the Blackburn branch (flooding of building), I worked at other branches throughout the North West region learning new skills. I learnt how the buying department works at Farnworth branch. I opened, closed and ran the shift at Leigh branch for a couple of weekends. I also got put on two different courses. One to gain my First Aid at work certificate and also to retake my forklift truck test again (counterbalance and reach truck licences). Over the summer full time I learnt many vital skills that enabled me to perform my job when I started part-time work after the summer, when college began. In September 2002 the newly refurbish booker cash and carry in Blackburn was opened which was opened just as I went onto part-time hours. I worked Sat(am), Sun(am), Mon night and Thu Night. I was the new floor supervisor. As the floor supervisor I had to direct people to what job needed doing, make sure that all customer queries were taken care of, drive forklift and to make sure all departments in the building were running correctly and efficiently. All staff reported to me with any problems (customers asking for credit, stock enquires etc) and 9 times out of 10 I sorted them out. On Saturdays I also had to unload wagons in goods inwards and check them all. I also had to cover for reception, checkout supervisor and also covered cashier positions from time to time. I also occasionally covered the shift completely for about 4 weekends out of the whole time I worked there. That entailed me opening up the building, turning on main computer systems, making sure everyone knew what they were doing, sort out daily reports, checking daily stock levels to reorder, deal with staff and customer queries, open safe for security to take money and to close up building. Key Achievements: Developed further my management skills and managing large teams in a retail environment.

PT Floor Supervisor May 2002 to Jun 2004

I started work back at Booker in May 2002. I started work at booker because I was going to be going

back to college in September of the same year and needed a part-time job. Booker took me back at the start of

that year summer full-time but due to an accident at the Blackburn branch (flooding of building), I worked at other branches throughout the North West region learning new skills. I learnt how the buying department works

at Farnworth branch. I opened, closed and ran the shift at Leigh branch for a couple of weekends. I also got put on two different courses. One to gain my First Aid at work certificate and also to retake my forklift truck test

again (counterbalance and reach truck licences).

I was the new

floor supervisor. As the floor supervisor I had to direct people to what job needed doing, make sure that all customer queries were taken care of, drive forklift and to make sure all departments in the building were running

correctly and efficiently. All staff reported to me with any problems (customers asking for credit, stock enquires

etc) and 9 times out of 10 I sorted them out. On Saturdays I also had to unload wagons in goods inwards and check them all. I also had to cover for reception, checkout supervisor and also covered cashier positions from

time to time.

I also occasionally covered the shift completely for about 4 weekends out of the whole time I worked

there. That entailed me opening up the building, turning on main computer systems, making sure everyone knew what they were doing, sort out daily reports, checking daily stock levels to reorder, deal with staff and customer

queries, open safe for security to take money and to close up building.

Key Achievements:

Developed further my management skills and managing large teams in a retail environment.
