Fitted with the Harman Kar-don surround system, I aptly load the player with 20 cds and had a handy flash drive full of soothing sounds to make my ride memorable - I gear into motion….I started early in the morning taking on the road smoothly as a glider in air, taking me over to the lesser known Southern Tanzanian seashores where turtles come to nest and dolphins dance to the music of the winds, driving there was turning into a long ride and hot too, not to let me down, the M - Class automatically cre-ates an individual climate for me with its standard ‘Thermatic’ automatic climate control sensors that adjusts the driver and passenger side temperature automatically, passing my hand through the cooled glove compartment I reach out for my driver mints and speed past a ripe cashew fruit farm, stylishly manoeuvring into off road….
Turning the rotary switch – with 6 driving options to select from – Auto(standard driving Mode), Off road 1( Sand and Easy terrain), Off road 2(Difficult terrain), Sport, snow & Trailer. I select the Off Road 1 option and feel the suspension of the M – class adjusting itself to give me a fine driving dynamics and comfort to make a smooth ride in off road mode. As all the four wheels grip the terrain, I realise the power of the M- Class and drive smoothly crossing the coral landscape as if on a smooth off side road.The M - Class brings along fifty years of Mercedes Benz Safety
research into reality and it was proven to me while driving back home, it was sunset in the distance and I was
getting a bit drowsy and my ride detected this, and asked me to take a driving break, ‘what a
ride’ I say to myself and take a break…the
collision prevent assist and the Brake assist were constantly making sure that I was safe driving back home, and
the occasional cyclist riding back home were safe from the M – Class as even if they were slightly hit by my ride, the pedes-trian protection with active bonnet would reduce the injury for the cyclist or a pedestrian in a collision with the sensors in the front detect and impact and trigger a spring mechanism that raises the bonnet and reduces the hard impact.While I would be protected by PRE-SAFE system – anticipatory occupant protection system – and the restraint systems – the 3 point seat belts, belt tensioners, belt force limiters and air-bags coordinated to protect simultaneously to avoid serious injuries to all the occupants of this fine SUV…..
The thought of safety and the pleasure of the ride made my driver’s mint taste sweet and pleasant, and as I arrived back to my office I realised I still was ready for a GYM routine….Ah! The M – Class – my class….
