WHY SHOULD I STUDY ABROAD?

Understanding cultural differences in today’s

increasingly interconnected world is an important and

invaluable skill. Not only will the experience enhance

your job opportunities after you graduate, but you’ll

learn new things, explore other regions of the world,

and be better prepared to meet the challenges of a

global workforce.

Who can go abroad?

Everyone! Regardless of your

major, if you are in good academic

standing, you can go abroad. Many

programs are taught in English,

though some require a certain

proficiency in a foreign language.

Can I afford to go abroad?

Many programs are comparable to

the cost of attending IIT for a

semester. For all IIT faculty-led and

exchange programs, most financial

aid will transfer to your study

abroad program, and federal aid

can apply to partner programs.

There are also plenty of

scholarship competitions

specifically for study abroad that

can ease the burden.

Will the programs work for my

major?

Yes! Some program examples

include architecture travel studios

in the Netherlands, business

exchange in Singapore,

engineering and research in

Denmark, or IIT faculty-led

humanities courses in Japan. The

Office of Undergraduate Academic

Affairs will pre-approve all courses

you plan to take abroad so as not

to delay your graduation.
