CORDIER

Established in 1886 by Désiré Cordier, MAISON CORDIER quickly became one of the most emblematic

trading houses on La Place de Bordeaux. From the beginning of the 20th century, it worked with reputed

châteaux such as Gruaud Larose, Talbot, Lafaurie-Peyraguey and Le Clos des Jacobins. Cordier has been

committed to preserving the values he held dear: collective strength, daring creativity and a thirst for

knowledge.

Today, Cordier is one of the most respected Bordeaux merchants, valued for its portfolio of outstanding

Estates and for its capacity to innovate and renew its offers to respond to current trends. Cordier is also the

only merchant offering support to its growers throughout the winemaking process, from vine to glass.

Our exclusive Châteaux Selection brings together a range of the most significant petit chateaux within their

appellation. We strive to highlight each regions heritage while preserving the richness and typicity of their

terroir.

Thanks to our long-established privileged relationships, we have direct connections to Estates and

winemakers in the best appellations.

Attentive to consumer’s feedback, we frequently adapt our offerings to propose wines in touch with the

current trends and we favor working with family properties, who bring a new impetus to the domain and an

innovative eye to the process.

Today, our oenologist Bruno Kessler guides our partner winemakers in producing wines which exemplify

quality. He remains by their side throughout the year with frequent visits to the estates. He determines the

harvest dates for each plot, monitors the winemaking process and is involved in the final blend. He also

supervises bottling to ensure quality.

We ask our partners to conduct patch soil studies for a better adaptation of the grape variety to its

preferred terroir. The quality of the wine is maintained thanks to ultra modern equipment and methods, a

state-of-the-art bottling line and climate-controlled storage facilities at every step.

Our relationships are based on mutual respect, shared knowledge and direct contact with the different

owners, both on a technical and commercial capacity in order to bring out the highest potential. Behind

each wine are passionate men and women. They are guardians of our values, cultivating the vine with

respect for the soil and preserving the unique Bordeaux know-how.

Our Director of sourcing and oenotechny is Bruno Kessler who graduated in oenology in 1987. He oversees

the overall wine supply and winemaking policy.

He is also:

o Secretary of the FIVS (International Federation of Wines and Spirits), this organization works

among others for the sustainable development of the world wine industry.

o President of A.F.E.D. (French Association of Bottlers and Wine Distributors)

o Vice-President of Anivin.

Bruno is one of the most recognized and respected personalities in the wine world and has a complete

mastery of the wine trade, from grape growing to retail trends.

CHATEAU FOUGERE LA NOBLEBORDEAUX 2018

Fougère La Noble has been growing grapes since 1703 and consists of a 32 acre

vineyard and an unassuming one-story house with a small winery attached - not

your typical Château. In 1837 it was Gaston de Montesquieu who renamed the castle

in Fougère.

Today, Château Fougère La Noble is the property of the Charron family who has

owned it for two generations with grandson Fabien now overseeing the estate. The

Charrons have an eco-friendly commitment drastically minimizing the use of

chemicals running a weather station.

The winery is in the heart of the AOP Entre-Deux-Mers region, between the

Dordogne and Garonne rivers, with its ancient winegrowing tradition, unique terroir

and exceptionally rich historic and natural heritage.

Chateau Fougère La Noble produces only 5,000 cases per year.

CHATEAU DE CAPPESBORDEAUX 2018

Tradition and passion have been perpetuated in the Boulin family for over 100 years. Since

1880, five generations have succeeded in maintaining and growing the estate, in Saint-

André-du-Bois. Part of the vineyard was once part of Château Malromé, where famed Post

Impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec lived and worked.

Château de Cappes is located on the right bank of the Garonne river, about fifty kilometers

south-east of Bordeaux and ten kilometers from Langon within the Sauternais region.

The first two generations focused exclusively on grape growing. This gave their children

Yves and Marie-Jeanne Boulin the opportunity to eventually explore winemaking and in

1983, Patrick Boulin took over the estate, and was joined shortly thereafter by his sister

Nicole. In 1989, they produced their first vintage after a century of grape growing. Finally,

in 2010, fifth generation Cédric Boulin returned to the estate as its new winemaker.

Chateau de Cappes is a unique case of modernity and technology at great value and the

winery has won 13 medals over the last vintages.

CHATEAU LE PLANTEYCASTILLON COTES DE BORDEAUX – 2015

Founded in 1878, this family property has been managed by Paul and Lorette Valade for over

thirty years. Originally located in the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, the vineyards

expanded into St Emilion in 2007.

Cotes de Castillon is perhaps the best known and most consistent of the satellite

appellations. It is located due east of St. Emilion and south of Fronsac. The region takes its

name from the famous battle of Castillon battle, which was fought in 1453. Centered close to

the Castillon la Bataille, that deadly fight helped end the hundred years war between England

and France.

On this property, every effort is made to ensure that the wines produced are of impeccable

quality. Traditional expertise, handed down from generation to generation, combined with

long hours of hard work in the vineyards and a meticulous approach to each task, enables

the Château to produce outstanding wines from Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux.

CHATEAU LA VALLEEMONTAGNE SAINT-EMILION 2016

Owned by the Guimberteau family since 1923, Chateau La Vallée is now run by Granddaughter

Sophie, who’s husband trained at the Domaine de la Vougeraie in Burgundy and at Deiss in Alsace.

This is where they met, but they soon returned to the family estate under the condition that the

Chateau would transition to Organic and ultimately Biodynamic farming methods (the Estate was

already certified sustainable ‘Agriculture Raisonnée’.)

La Vallée overlooks, well, a Valley as it is one of the highest points in Montage St Emilion at 120

feet. This is a limestone plateau where grass is grown between the vines and Savoie Sheep are

roaming free in the vineyards. Today, the Estate produces about 8,000 Cases from 80 acres

(average vine age here is 35 years), all of it certified organic.

The 2018 was an atypical 50% Cab Franc, 50% Merlot (the blend is usually 80% Merlot and 20%

Cab) fermented with native yeast with no added sulfites in thermo regulated stainless steel tanks.

Mildew has affected the quantity in 2018 but not the quality of this otherwise very pretty, bright,

fresh and juicy wine.

One key particularity is that La Vallée is Vinified not by varietals but parcel by parcel (from six

distinct terroirs) so Merlot and Cab are co-fermented.

Malolactic fermentation ends by itself in November and the wine is aged in tanks until the being

bottled in July with minimal sulfites. For Sophie, it’s all about the purity of fruit.

CHATEAU ANDRONMEDOC 2017

‘A maritime influenced historical gem’

Château Andron is a family owned property located in the Médoc AOP, in the Northern town of

Civrac. Nudged between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, it enjoys a temperate

microclimate thus reducing the risk of frost.

The history of the Château is ancient as it already appears as a mill on the famous Cassini map of

France drafted in the 1700s. It was then still called Moulin Gauchant, taking its name from a

windmill located on the property and whose wings unusually turned to the left.

Christiane Bernard-Desalmand returned to the property of her ancestors with her husband Jorge

Castells in 1961, with the aim of rebuilding it. Many years of work enabled them to enlarge the

vineyard to 30 Acres and until 1986, the estate grew fruit for the Prignac cooperative. But then,

major construction was undertaken on a winery and a barrel cellar. The first vintage vinified there

was 1987. In 1996, the owners of Château Moulin Gauchant bought the vineyards of Château

Andron, another historical property and classified Cru Bourgeois in 1932. Both estates were

consolidated into a 74 Acres vineyard under the name Château Andron and 2003, a new modern

stainless-steel fermentation tank room was built.

Today, Jean-François Desalmand and José Castells continue to pursue the work of their ancestors in

a spirit consistent with the long family tradition while relying on modern techniques to constantly

improve the quality of their wine. The complementarity of the two brothers helps them growing

grapes adapted to their terroir and search for optimum maturity of fruit. Each year, the Château

pursues its challenge of reducing its impact on the environment.

Since 2017, Château Andron is classified as one of 36 “Cru Artisan”; a grouping of small family run

estates found in Médoc peninsula. Admission to Cru Artisan status depends on visits and a blind

tasting by a jury of Bordeaux merchants and oenologists.

“ The flagship of the appellation

Lussac Saint-Émilion “

CHÂTEAU DE LUSSACLUSSAC SAINT-EMILION 2016

Chateau de Lussac is a 61-acre estate planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet

Sauvignon in the AOP Lussac St Emilion located north of the Saint-Émilion appellation areas.

In Lussac, the vineyards populate an amphitheater of south-facing plateaus and valleys,

which promotes good natural drainage. Grass is grown on alternative rows and ‘Lutte

Raisonnée’ (sustainable) has been practiced here for many years. Yields are a low 35 – 40

Hl/Ha.

The wines are elaborated in a brand new, state-of-the-art winery located adjacent to the

castle. Traditional vinification in stainless steel is followed by six months of aging. The estate

experiments with new types of oak barrel suppliers every year with a three-year barrel

rotation program(complicated by a tiny 2017 vintage).

Lussac is currently in transition to receive its HVE3 (High Environmental Value) official

certification.

Delicious, with intense aromas with notes of red fruit and underlying hints of licorice, prune

and spice, Lussac is always elegant and displays balanced tannic structure.

CHATEAU DU MOULINATHAUT MÉDOC 2015

“I want my wine to be enjoyable at every stage of its life, and all I think about when I elaborate it

is the enjoyment by consumers. That is the only thing that matters: Sharing a moment of

relaxation with friends while enjoying a bottle. As for style: I love freshness. I am not interested in

muscular reds; there must be lightness”. Hélène Soual, owner winemaker.

It was in the 1950s that the Kopp family bought the unassuming winery located on the side of

the road between Listrac and the ferry dock to Blaye in the Haut Medoc. 80 acres were

replanted (after being abandoned after phylloxera and WWI) and It is now operated by the

Grand-daughter and force of nature Hélène Soual.

During harvest, Hélène tastes and looks for a firm tannins texture in her Cabernet as well as

velvety fruit in her Merlot. Grapes then go through a vibrating sorting table followed by hand

sorting on a conveyor belt.

Everything is cold fermented for one week to soften the grapes and facilitate better extraction.

She has stopped pumping over as she believes it dries out the wines and feels strongly about

using staves, arguing logically that top quality staves are preferable to ‘middle of the road’

barrels.

The blending is then done blind according to cuvées and Chateau Moulinat is the second wine

of highly sought after Chateau du Retout.

Created in 1950 by the Visage family, the 27-acre property produces only 850 cases (The

family also owns Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Château Jucalis). It produces ethereal wines from

Saint Emilion with the greatest respect for traditional taste while utilizing up to date

oenological technologies.

Today, Isabelle Visage, represents the third generation of Jupille-Carillon. Passionate and

committed, she perpetuates the family know-how, crafting an elegant and supple St Emilion.

The wine, a blend of 70% Merlot 30% Cab Franc with an average of 67 years, always displays

an intense ruby red color. Grown on limestone and clay soils, the nose is rich, smoky, complex

and develops aromas of fruits of the forest and spicy notes. The palate yields vibrant fruit with

polished tannins. The finish is long, structured and harmonious.

CHATEAU MYON DE L’ENCLOSMOULIS EN MEDOC– 2016

Known for the value of its wines, the AOC Moulis-en-médoc, located just 7 miles Northwest

of Margaux, stretches East to West for 8 miles but is only 900 feet across. The terroir here is

composed mostly of Garonne river gravels mixed with limestone and sand. Here, Cabernet

Sauvignon is king.

The Lartigue family is very much from this land and has been farming in Listrac for now five

generations, more than just grapes. But perfectionist and rigorous Bernard Martigue had a

passion for wine, and in 1982 created Chateau Mayne Lalande (which today is served at the

French presidential palace) and later in the 80s, acquired the 12 Acres of Chateau Myon de

l’Enclos. Bernard is known for constantly looking to improve the quality of his wines and he

has been repeatedly recognized by Decanter, Gault&Millau and Guide Hachette.

Myon de l’Enclos is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot planted on

average 30 years ago and yielding about 45Hl/Ha. The must is cold macerated and vinified

parcel by parcel. The winery crafts wines of strong personality which can be cellared thanks

to their complexity, finesse and the 14 months of élevage in 35% new oak. Ripe fresh red

fruit dominates, with notes of toasted bread, licorice and coffee/tobacco. Only 2,000 cases

are produced yearly.

“An affordable Pomerol located

430 yard from Petrus“

CHÂTEAU FRANC MAILLET POMEROL 2016

Most likely named after the French word for Apple (Pomme), Pomerol is the smallest of the

major fine wine regions in Bordeaux, covering an area that is only two miles wide by 2 ½

miles long (only 14% the size of St Emilion) with only 150 producers. Here, Merlot and

Cabernet Franc reign supreme.

Located at the name place ‘Maillet’, only 1,300 ft from Petrus and 2,500 ft from L’Evangile,

this is a true family estate owned since 1919 by the Arpin family.

Today, Gerard and his son Gael run the 14 acre vineyard and elaborate Franc-Maillet in a

cellar modernized in 2008 with small thermo regulated tanks and a lighter carbon

footprint.

Everything here is handpicked, cold macerated at 53˚ prior to the 4 to 5 days of

fermentation with four pumping overs per day. The wine is then aged in a mix of concrete

and wooden tanks, as well as a variety of top-quality barrels, then bottled with only a light

filtration.

CHATEAU RICHEBONPAUILLAC – 2014/2015

Château Richebon stems from the 5th classified growth Chateau Croizet-Bages founded by

the Croizet brothers in the 18th century. It had been run by an American family in the

earlier part of the 20th Century before it was bought by its current owner, the Quie family,

in 1942.

The terroir, composed of Garonne river gravels partly crossed by halieutic sandbanks, lets

the Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot of Chateau Richebon express themselves to their full

potential. As the Heirs to Paul Quie, Anne-Françoise and her brother Jean-Philippe are

honoring traditional methods pioneered by their family by carrying out a 21 day soft

maceration to extract the most elegant red fruit notes which is so particular to the Pauillac

Appellation.

The Quies also bring significant expertise as they also run Grand Cru Classé Chateau

Croizet-Bages and Chateau Rauzan.

CHATEAU BROWNPESSAC-LEOGNAN 2015

Château Brown is testament to the close ties which have long existed between Bordeaux and

our Anglo-Saxon cousins. Originally constructed in the late medieval period when Aquitaine

was still an English province, Château Brown is named after the Scottish merchant and famous

artist John Lewis Brown, who settled here in the late 18th century.

Located in a discreet wooden area in the town of Léognan, the estate has become infamous

for the ‘Cru Classé’ worthy care of its vineyard management. The grapes are 100% harvested

in small containers and hand sorted on vibrating sorting table. This extreme attention to details

in Helps craft consistent, haute-couture wines.

According to Jean-Christophe Mau, the committed new owner of Chateau Brown, who was

elected winemaker of the year in 2017 by The Guide Hachette, “90% of the potential of each

vintage comes from the vines”. So, it is of the utmost importance to him to be present at each

steps in the winemaking process.

Château Brown has also been actively engaged since 2012 in a sustainable agriculture process,

gradually introducing an Environmental Management System.

POMMERAIE DE BROWNPESSAC-LEOGNAN 2015

Until the 1990s, Château Brown had been renowned for the quality of its apples for several

decades, hence the name of their second wine « La Pommeraie de Brown » (“apple orchard”).

Those trees were uprooted in 1998 by the previous owner and has now given way to Cabernet

Sauvignon vines planted in deep gravel soil.

This Hand harvested Second Vin is the reflection of Brown terroir and enjoys the same lavish

care that the Grand Vin receives. The plots of vines are selected to make a fruitier, lighter,

easy-drinking wine made to be enjoyed at a younger age. Elegant and well structured, it can

be enjoyed right away.

Château Brown has been actively engaged since 2012 in a sustainable agriculture process,

CHATEAU POUGETMARGAUX– 2010

Château Pouget is named after François-Antoine Pouget who acquired the estate in 1748.

The Duke of Richelieu, a great wine-lover, awarded the château the coat of arms that is still

featured on its label today. Château Pouget was admitted as a Fourth Grand Cru in the 1855

Bordeaux classification.

Since 1906, the estate is owned by the Guillemet family. Today, technical director Lucien

Guillemet crafts wine expressing all the beauty of these gravel soils envied the world over.

This 2010 Pouget is a library release from the winery and this is a classic Margaux vintage:

crimson colored, a marriage of depth and finesse, marked by a subtle notes of summer and

forest fruits. A perfectly mature Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from an exceptional vintage.

CHATEAU LA COMMANDERIESAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSÉ 2015/16

Already amongst the best in Saint-Emilion, Chateau La Commanderie was raised to Grand Cru

Classé in 2012. The winery is a family run estate (who also owns the “Clos des Jacobins”). Located

just outside the town of Figeac, a stone throws away from Le Pin, Cheval Blanc and L’Evangile. Its

immediate neighbor is none other than Château Cheval Blanc.

Its terroir is a continuation of gravelly terraces that blend with iron-bearing sands, giving the wine

a unique complexity. The vines also enjoy a full southern exposure. The tiny cellar sits in the

middle the estate’s vineyard thus enabling the gentlest of handling during harvest. The terroir is

composed of a unique mix of limestone, argyle and sand and is planted with 75% Merlot and

25% Cabernet Franc. The average vine age here is 35 years.

In 2003, Magali and Thibaut Decoster acquired La Commanderie and have been setting the

benchmark for quality ever since. They uniquely endeavor to re-produce the taste and feel of

traditional Saint- Emilion (purposely using concrete tanks, not over extracting, not “over-working”

the must and striving for balanced structure as opposed to just fruit). The vineyard is a tiny 9

sustainably farmed acres producing only 1,600 cases a year.
