‘It's an iPhone for people who can't be arsed holding an iPhone up to their face. A slightly-further-away iPhone that keeps your lap warm. A weird combination of portable and cumbersome: too small to replace your desktop, too big to fit in your pocket, unless you're a clown. It can play video, but really – do you want to spend hours staring at a movie in your lap? Sit through Lord of the Rings and you'd need an osteopath to punch the crick out of your neck afterwards. It can also be used as an ebook, something newspapers are understandably keen to play up, but because it's got an illuminated display rather than a fancy non-backlight "digital ink" ebook screen, it'll probably leave your eyes feeling strained, as though your pupils are wearing tight shoes.’

‘Having grown up in the 70s and 80s, in the midst of the personal computer and video game explosion, I find the label “Born-Digital Generation” almost as narrow-minded and silly as I did “Generation X” when it first started being thrown around to label my generational cohort.’

'What I as an author feel about this enormous change we're undergoing is it feels like I'm tied to the front of a runaway train where the driver's just had a heart attack, that's what it feels like. I don't know how fast it's going to go, where it's going to stop, whether it's going to stop suddenly or fly off a precipice or what. Nobody knows, well if they do they haven't told me.’

'However, there are some, um, something's going on in which the author, this poor, maligned, ignored, starved, patronised, this poor little creature at the heart of it all, without whom none of this great enterprise, this mighty enterprise could possibly happen anyway, there are some little corners of this that the author can have a measure of control over...'

"We all know Nick Cave is brilliant. I've been wild about him since The Birthday Party, and he continues to move me with his music, screenplays, and soundtracks. I can say without hesitation, though: THIS reading is Nick's finest performance to date. While the story has moments of noir humor, hearing the author read his own words with exactly the cadence he intended takes Bunny and his son's characters to an entirely different level. I don't actually think it would be possible to get the same experience at all simply by reading the text on a page. The lilting soundtrack hiding behind the text, the sound effects, Cave's own admiration for the oft-mentioned Kylie Minogue bring the book to life. In regards to the videos, I preferred to watch them at the end of the entire reading with the exception of the Chapter 3 video. I was too involved with the story in those moments to stop and focus on Cave in the middle of a chapter. That being said- the videos were beautifully produced and I loved them just as much as the audio tracks- just not simultaneously. I can honestly say that it would be worth buying an iPhone simply to be able to partake in this app. I'm extremely cautious with my money, and wasn't overly excited about even the meager price of $16.95 for it- however, I wouldn't hesitate again. Kudos to Cave and Enhanced Editions on a TRULY killer app."
