1999: in order to be compatible with the EU NUTS II level, the Parliament modified the Act on Regional Development and introduced 7 so-called statistical regions. This is not a public administration division.
Our region is the North-Hungary Region consisting ofBorsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves and Nógrád Counties with a total area of 13 429 km2 and a population of 1 280 000.
