CLUB OFFICIALS CLUB HOUNOURS
The football club were sadly made aware of a former President
Bernard Cole who died after a short illness in September.
“Bernie” as he was known round the club was a fantastic ambas-
sador to the club during one of its most successful times in the
1998-1999 season. Winning the coveted ‘treble’ of the West Sus-
sex Premier Division, Malcolm Simmonds Cup and the Centenary
Cup – a feat no other club has achieved. During this time he self-
funded the kit for the team and contributed to the storage shed.
One of my fondest memories of Bernie was his passion for the
club even after he was president and showing his support at Wal-
ton Lane by offering to buy the team a drink after the game or
supporting us in fundraising efforts for the club to maintain the off
the field ambitions. Our thoughts are with his wife Doris Cole and
the family.
On the field, we have seen the first team being knocked out of the Intermediate Cup to Forest Row; for the neutral an
entertaining match losing 5-4 and a narrow defeat away to Jarvis Brook (A) in the league. We will be looking to
bounce back this weekend (21/10) in the Div 2 Cup, when we entertain Alfold at home: 14.00 K.O. With October seeing
three first team away games we look forward to the fixtures being evened out over the early winter. We would also
like to welcome Joe Albertella with Tom Warren to the reserve set up and Michelle Lewis who is our fitness and con-
ditioning coach for our senior teams.
The two youth teams are making steady progress although results are not quite there the work done by our coach-
ing staff has seen us make improved performances, thanks to everyone involved supporting the boys in their re-
spective leagues.

Where to start.... Firstly I’d like to welcome today’s
official Neal Saxton and the players, staff
and committee of Jarvis Brook to Walton Lane this
afternoon.
After a few bad performances, we hit back with a great
win last time out against a very well organised Alfold
side in the cup. After working hard in training and mak-
ing a few changes to the side, the response from the
boys was absolutely spot on in awful conditions... I was
looking for a great response and got one. Attitudes and
everything was perfect. I asked the boys to battle and
show there worth there place in the team and they certainly did everything asked of them. But one
game doesn’t make it all ok, the boys have got to keep it going and I totally believe this squad can put
a good run together and push up the table. Hard work and togetherness is massive to turning this
season round.
This week has seen a new addition to the club coaching set up. With new kit man Andy Gregory coming
in, he’ll also be working closely with the first team on match day and will be a great addition to the
senior squads at the club....
Hope you all enjoy today’s game.

Formed in 1901, Bosham were founder members of Division Three of the County League in 1983/84 following a long and established pe-
riod within local football. Their inaugural season at the higher standard ended with a commendable fourth placed finish. The following
year of 1984/85, the club finished runners-up to Oakwood, winning promotion to Division Two. To cap a very successful season, Bosham
also won the Division Three League Cup – a feat they were to repeat in 2009/10.
Having won promotion in 1985/86, Bosham had mixed fortunes in senior football with their best effort a sixth place finish in 1990/91,
although the following season they were relegated back to Division Three after seven years at the higher level. However, in 1993/94,
they were promoted back again as champions – albeit a short-live success, as the following two seasons saw successive relegations
back to the West Sussex Football League.
Following an overhaul of both players and management, Bosham enjoyed a resurgence on the pitch resulting in one of their most suc-
cessful seasons ever in 1998/99, winning the coveted ‘treble’ of the West Sussex Premier Division; Malcolm Simmonds Cup and the Centenary Cup – a feat no other club has achieved.
1999/00 saw Bosham champions once again, making a welcome return to senior football and scoring 109 goals along the way – an av-
erage of 3.6 per game - although following a mid-table finish in 2000/01, The Robins found themselves bottom of the pile the following
year and ‘yo-yoed’ back down to Division 3.
The club once again struggled in Division Three, but a late revival saw them finish one place off the bottom, five points clear of Uckfield
Town. Although a relegation position, the resignation of Oving – coupled with only Wadhurst United meeting the requirements for pro-
motion - spared them the drop.
Until 2006/07 – a year when Bosham were once again reprieved after a picking up the Division Three wooden spoon – there had been
signs of improvement, with the club appearing reasonably comfortable in Division Three after many up and down seasons; and in
2004/05, reached the Final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup, where they were defeated by Rustington.
Cup success again afforded the Walton Lane side in 2008/09 when they were beaten by a solitary goal to nil against fellow Division
Three side, Forest, in the final of the same trophy.
However Bosham did find the winning formula the following season, drafting in a largely youthful squad alongside one or two more ex-
perienced heads, to lead the club to the Division 3 title for the third time; the Division Three Challenge Cup, and the Team of the Year
award…..

….. Unfortunately, league ground grading regulations were to this time go against Bosham and they were denied a place back in senior
football. Despite this knock, the club managed to keep the majority of the side that earned their top spot the previous season, and gal-
lantly went on to finish in fourth place in 2010/11.
In September 2011, Bosham won a sponsorship deal with home improvement retailer, Wickes, via national newspaper, The Sun. The prize
was a welcome boost for the village club, who had previously struggled for funding and local volunteers. Bosham fought off 300 other
non-league clubs to win the competition. The windfall funded a make over for the changing rooms, new kit, training equipment and
coaching.
After encouragingly winning six of their opening nine league games of the 2011/12 campaign, a changeable Bosham side saw their season
ebb out, as they finished below mid-table. However, the club were demoted to the West Sussex Premier Division for the start of the
2012/13 season, owing to ground grading regulations.
Under the guidance of Tony Hancock, the Robins finished in third place in their return season in West Sussex Premier Division, with the
title eventually going to Cowfold after being keenly fought out until the last weekend. Despite a positive start to the 2013/14 campaign,
Hancock ended his ten year reign in charge of The Robins, with long-serving player Andy Probee taking over the role in November 2013.
Bosham were soon back on track, with Probee's side winning an impressive 13 of their remaining 16 games to take the West Sussex
Premier Division title for a second time - and with it, gain promotion back to Division 3 of the Sussex County League. Sadly, Probee lost
his grandad - and Bosham Vice President - Dennis, a week before the end of the season, so it was perhaps fitting that the club should
win the League shortly after. The inaugural Dennis Probee Memorial Cup was set-up in his honour, with Bosham facing a 'Sussex XI' side,
winning 4-3 on penalties after the sides were tied 2-2 in normal time.
2013/14 was also a great season for the club off the field, with Bosham successfully applying for Sport England funding, enabling the
club to modernise their facilities and increase participation with new youth sides planned for 2014/15. The season also saw Bosham gain
their FA Charter Standard status.
Bosham made their return to the Sussex County League in 2014/15, finishing their first season back in a creditable fourth spot in Divi-
sion 3, having featured at the top of the division for much the season, following a blistering start that saw the club win its first six
games. Silverware was to follow, as the Robins lifted the Division 3 Cup for a third time, with a 3-0 victory over local rivals, Sidlesham.
Football Foundation funding supported the reintroduction of the club’s youth section at under 16 level, with a further youth team at un-
der 15 level added in 2015/16. The club were also winners at the Sussex Sports Awards.
In February 2016, Bosham gained a further grant from West Sussex County Council's 'Big Society Fund' in the sum of £10,400 to improve
club facilities and infrastructure, and assist with longer-term sustainability and youth participation objectives.
Success on the pitch in 2015/16 again came in the form of the (re-named) SCFL Division 2 Cup - with a 2-1 win over League champions,
AFC Varndeanians. The Robins became the first side to retain the trophy since its inception in 1983/84. The season also brought a sixth
place finish in the newly-formed Southern Combination League Division 2.
The Robins came back stronger in 2016/17, winning the SCFL Division Two title having led the table for all but the opening two weeks of
the season.
Although Bosham have never competed in the FA Cup, they were entrants to the FA Vase between 1986 and 1990, however have never
managed to win in this competition.
BOSHAM 4-2 ALFOLD - SAT 11TH NOV ‘17
‘Robins back to winning ways to progress in the League Cup’
Bosham FC got back to winning ways, this week, with a comfortable triumph to progress to the quarter
finals of the Division Two Cup at the expense of an improving Alfold side who may have hoped to inflict more
misery on the reds considering Bosham’s recent run of form.
Thanks to a lot of overnight rain the teams were met by a very wet pitch and increasingly heavy conditions
under foot and, after an impeccably observed two minutes silence to mark Armistice Day, the game got
under way and a surprisingly fast pace. New signing Louis Brailey made his debut for the hosts, up front, to
bolster the attacking options and the manager, Gary Lines, was able to have the back up of a very strong
bench to choose from should he need to.
The game took a while to really get going with conditions hard to whether for both sides but, eventually,
Bosham began to settle and gaps began to appear in the Alfold rearguard. Callum Coker looked sharp and
the express pace of Grant Radmore was always a threat down the right hand side. Right on the half hour
Coker had the first real chance when well placed to attack a cross from Harry Bedford. The striker’s head-
er was well saved by keeper, Louis Corrlea from point blank range and then, just minutes later Corrlea was
very lucky to survive another Bosham thrust on goal. On this occasion Corrlea gambled to rush out to the
edge of the box to challenge for the ball but the excellent Graeme Dowden easily won the ball and then had
the chance to cross to an unmarked Coker. He found his fellow striker but Corrlea somehow made it back
in time to pull off an astonishing save to deny Coker what seemed a certain goal.
With the half time whistle about to be blown Bosham went on another foray into the Alfold half and this time
Coker found his range to hand the Robins a deserved lead heading into the interval. Driving deep in to the
Alfold half, Coker outpaced defenders and then unleashed an unstoppable drive into the corner of the net
passed a stranded Corrlea. After the break Bosham continued to impress with their ability to control the
game despite the torrid conditions and it wasn’t long before their lead was doubled, this time buy the ever
reliable Callum Fewell. Radmore worked space down the right a pinged in a terrific ball into the danger
area. Fewell rose well and headed the ball goal ward only for Corrlea to make a somewhat dramatised save
but Fewell quickly pounced on the loose ball to squeeze it home at the near post to the delight of the home
fans nearby.
Alfold tried everything to reduce the deficit but another quick break from the back saw Bosham grab a third not long after the hour
mark. This time Radmore did all his own work and fired in to score a goal that his impressive match, so far, deserved. Bosham were
cruising now and the visitors looked shell shocked at what was happening to them. Kieran Purkis was still a threat up front and late on
sent and air of real concern through the home faithful as he grabbed a late double to drag the burgundy marauders back into a tie that,
for a long time, had seemed a lost cause. With minutes left of the clock, Purkis let fly from distance to find the top corner past the
Bosham keeper, Nick Hall and then only a minute later pounced on a moment’s hesitation at the back to grab a second and leave Bosham
baying for the final whistle. The home fans needn’t have worried though as, in injury time, with Alfold throwing caution to the wind the
visitors were dealt the coups-de-gras as Jake Lafferty was sent clear from his own half to sprint the length of the pitch to score into an
empty net with the Alfold keeper stranded up the other end having gone forward for a corner in search of an equaliser.
Ironically that goal was the last kick of the game and Bosham could breathe a huge sigh of relief and celebrate passage through to the
quarter finals and a home time against Montpellier Villa. Next week Jarvis Brook make the trip to Walton Lane and Bosham will certainly
be trying as hard as they can to finally end their bogey run against the Crowborough based club even if it will be at the sixth time of
asking
