3 ships loaded with tea arrived in Boston Harbor. The royal governor of Massachusetts, Thomas Hutchinson, would not allow the tea to be sent back to England.

Sons of Liberty led by Sam Adams, disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians boarded the ships and threw 342 chests of tea overboard.
