Boston College extended its nation-best winning streak to nine games with a sweep of Notre Dame by a combined score of 10-1. David Cotton (Parker, Texas) had a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, including his 50th career goal on Saturday to pace the Eagles’ offense. Rookie goaltender Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) stopped 53 of 54 shots he faced to earn Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week just days after earning Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month and National Rookie of the Month honors.
Boston University topped #12 Harvard and #8 Northeastern to enter the holiday break with momentum. Patrick Harper (New Canaan, Conn.) tallied five points and a plus-five rating in the two-win week for the Terriers, scoring three times and adding a pair of assists. Massachusetts swept Maine thanks to 43 saves from Matt Murray (St. Albert, Alta.), who allowed just two goals. Both goals allowed were power-play goals, including one coming on a 5-on-3. Murray improved to 7-1-0 on the year, lowing his GAA to 1.39 and raising his save percentage to .932 and ranks in the top-10 in the nation in all three categories.
UConn swept league-rival Vermont to move to 4-4-2 in league play and a tie for sixth place in the Army ROTC Hockey East Standings. Sophomore Jonny Evans (North Delta, B.C.) had a hat-trick on Saturday to fuel a 7-4 Huskies win. Evans, who missed six games with an injury, returned this weekend and registered the first UConn hat-trick since Oct. 14, 2017.
UMass Lowell and Providence split a series between two of the top teams in Hockey East. Reigning Stop It Goaltender of the Month Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) stopped 66 of 71 shots in the split, including 35 saves in a 3-2 road win Friday. Friars’ sophomore Tyce Thompson (Milford, Conn.) had a goal and two assists on the weekend and currently leads the NCAA with 13 goals. He is second in the NCAA with 27 points behind only teammate Jack Dugan (Rochester, N.Y./6g, 27a, 33p).
Merrimack and New Hampshire split a Saturday-Sunday weekend set. Sophomore Logan Drevitch (Middleborough, Mass.) scored two goals and added two assists in a 4-2 win over New Hampshire on Saturday night to lead the Warriors to a game one victory. The Wildcats took game two on Sunday thanks in part to a goal and an assist from freshman Chase Ste-venson (West Kelowna, B.C.), who also tallied in Saturday’s setback.
