Hi Everyone,

We hope you are all well.

Our home learning pack this week includes the daily activities we will be completing at school.

Learning ideas

Morning

Please remember to read with your child daily. Share books with them and question them about the things they read and the books you read to

them. To use the Oxford Owl eBooks please register as a parent to gain access.

We recommend your child completes a phonics activity for 20 mins per day either from Oxford Owl for RWI, Phonics Play for phonic games, we

have some downloadable sheets on the website under home learning for this week, or write a sentence in their book using phonic knowledge

talking about the things they have done at home.

We also recommend your child continues to practise their mathematic skills daily by counting and practising number formation.

We would like you to complete one lesson per day from the Online Classroom at the National academy. Please sit with your child through these

You could collect little pebbles or rocks? Write numbers on them. Can you put them in the correct order? Can you choose a pebble and say what

is one more and what is one less? You could even use them to make number sentences!

Or

Use the pebbles again! You can use them with or without numbers.

Or

You could make a clock using the pebbles? Can you tell us what time it is?

Or

You could sort your pebbles into 3 groups according to their size: big, medium, small

Or

What shapes can you make using your pebbles? You can use chalk to draw the shape first and then place your pebbles on top.

Or

Complete one of the maths worksheets saved on the home learning page (‘The Doubling Powerpoint’ is also saved on the home learning page).

Afternoon

This week we are going to have a look at pirates, if you have a book about pirates at home please read it with your family first. Then have a look

Or

Make a paper plate pirate! Don't forget to add all the pirate’s accessories. Can you name them? Don’t worry if you don’t have a paper plate. You

can make your pirate any way you like! You can look at the powerpoint about famous pirates saved on the home learning page. Get inspired and

try to make one of them.

Or

Make a pirate hat! You can use 2 A4 pieces of paper or a larger piece of paper. Follow the instructions on the link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoNe8jALqAg Decorate your hat and pretend to be a pirate!

Or

Are you in a mood for some messy play? If yes, why don’t you try a pirate handprint or footprint? Select your colours and paint your foot and/or

Page 5: Botwell House Catholic Primary School Home Learning ... · Make a paper plate pirate! Don't forget to add all the pirate’s accessories. Can you name them? Don’t worry if you don’t

hand and print it on the paper. How does the paint feel? Is it hot or cold? What do you feel when the brush is touching your body?

Or

Pirates did not have phones. They communicated by writing letters and putting them in a bottle. Can you write a note/letter to somebody you

love but have not seen for a long time? You could read it to them when you call them, post it or just leave it on their doorsteps in a bottle. Do you

think it would make them happy?

Or

You could walk the plank? You can set it up any way you like. It is a very good for improving your balance and coordination.

Or

You could listen to some facts about mermaids? Were they real? What does a myth mean? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYtwwgNpqfU

Page 6: Botwell House Catholic Primary School Home Learning ... · Make a paper plate pirate! Don't forget to add all the pirate’s accessories. Can you name them? Don’t worry if you don’t

Or

You could make your own mermaid? Get creative and discover new methods you have not used before.

Or

Look at the powerpoint about the pirates’ ships, try to remember as many facts as you can. Can you make your own pirate ship? What resources

would you need? What would you need to do first? Try to plan your ideas and talk them through with an adult before starting. If your ship doesn't

turn out the way you expected, then discuss what you would do differently next time.

Or

Make a hook! Roll a stick in aluminium foil, then bend the foil into a hook shape on the top. Use anything you like to decorate your

styrofoam/plastic cup. Parents, please help your child to poke the stick through the end of the cup.

Page 7: Botwell House Catholic Primary School Home Learning ... · Make a paper plate pirate! Don't forget to add all the pirate’s accessories. Can you name them? Don’t worry if you don’t

Or

You could make a pirate banana snack? Cut a portion of banana for the pirate body. Add a strawberry bandanna by slicing the strawberry at an

angle. Add a chocolate chip for the eye patch, a raisin for the good eye, and a raisin for the mouth. Use a toothpick to draw the eye patch strap

with melted chocolate. Another toothpick and raisin for the sword. There is also an apple and cheese pirate boat recipe saved on the home

learning page.

Or

Choose an experiment saved on the home learning page (You can do more than one if you wish).

RE

Discuss everything you are grateful for. Talk about your family, school and any clubs you attend. Write about what you enjoy and what you are

looking forward to. Write a ‘Thank You Prayer’ to say thank you to God for all the lovely things you have and people around you that love and

care for you.

Or

Hug a tree! Hugging a tree increases levels of the hormone oxytocin. This hormone is responsible for feeling calm and emotional bonding. When

you hug a tree, the hormones serotonin and dopamine make you feel happier. Trees have been found to limit stress and promote relaxation in

both children and adults.

Or

Have a go at Mermaid Yoga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1UcBGlIf50

Or

Can you remember any of the yoga poses? You could practise your favourite poses in your garden or park

Or

Try guided relaxation for children. If your child has trouble falling asleep you could try to play it at bedtime.

Please supervise your child while they are watching and using You Tube and all websites.

Although we have provided the links to the pages if you don’t have any parental controls to restrict access other things could pop up

unintentionally. We have restricted access at school for the children to use these sites and they are closely monitored. It is very easy

to set parental controls at home, but children should still be supervised.

Don’t forget to check out the schools Twitter feed and join in!

Send us an email to show us what you are up to.

All the best
