Recognition and acclaim Caymus

Never ones to rest on their laurels, the Wagner Family is constantly innovating, coming up with new ways to keep improving the quality of the wines that bear the Caymus

label. And it’s precisely because of their long history farming the land that they have the keen eye to improve in ways that consistently raise the bar.ere was a time when Napa Valley wasn’t a brand name. Prunes and walnuts paid the bills, and farmers in overalls made things work. e late Charlie Wagner was a pretty clear example of the hardworking attitude that laid the foundation for Caymus. In the 1960s, Charlie and his wife Lorna Belle Glos foresaw an uncertain future for the family’s orchards, so they decided to pull out their trees and devote their Rutherford property entirely to wine grapes. It was in 1972 that Charlie, Lorna, and their son, Chuck, decided to go “all-in” and formalize the family’s long-standing tradition of home winemaking. It wasn’t long before the father-son team started garnering attention from some of the era’s most in¤uential winemakers, yet it was their 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon that put them on the map for good as it caught the attention of important national critics, earning them recognition and acclaim far beyond their backyard. at was the day the phone started to ring, and the momentum hasn’t slowed since.

’13 Caymus “Special Selection” Cabernet Sauvignon • Napa ValleyReady to drink now or in ten years – their unmistakable style – the 2013 Special Selection is blooming with aromas of blackberry, fresh and dried black cherry, ¦g, Rutherford dust, and baking spices. A case is a must. 1WCAY14CS3 | $69.99 btl. (Net item – no discounts apply).

Waypoint Cabernet Collection

It might surprise you to learn that many of the Napa Valley’s ¦nest, highest-scoring wineries make wine from purchased fruit and own no vineyards. Waypoint represents

our relentless eort to stand shoulder to shoulder with this elite group of producers. With all of the mutually bene¦cial friendships and connections we’ve built over 22 years, we have no shortage of contacts with prime fruit to sell. In 2013, these networks paid o  in a big way.Somerston Estate is a beautiful valley unto itself on Sage Canyon Road, between Lake Hennessey and Lake Berryessa, northeast of Rutherford and Pritchard Hill. Our 2013 Somerston Cabernet is gently structured with dusty, pleasantly earthy aromas overlaying deep blackberry and black cherry fruit. In 2013 this wine absolutely shines and will age 15-20 years without blinking. Hillside Oakville fruit is responsible for some of the most iconic wines of Napa: Phelps Backus and Screaming Eagle are two legends from the same neighborhood as our 2013 Oakville Ranch Cabernet, expertly farmed to organic standards by Phil Coturri. is is the most lush and opulent of the trio, brimming with juicy cassis liqueur and boysenberries. Brilliant! We sourced the fruit for the 2013 Tierra Buena Cabernet from a historic vineyard on Spring Mountain, ¦rst planted in the 1880s. is is the “good earth” at its ¦nest. Grown mostly at 1,100 feet, this sun-drenched hillside above the fog line is the perfect home for fruit that develops supreme concentration and exquisite tannins. Bold, structured like the proverbial brick shelter, this oozes class and blackcurrant fruit to spare.

Midnight wine rustling!Broken Spur

’13 Broken SpurSyrah • Napa Valleyis oozes boysenberry and spiced blueberry with cedar and underbrush notes that could only be Syrah. Stop your searching and saddle up on our favorite new horse. Trust us... you'll be back for more.1WBSP13SY3 | $24.95 btl. $22.46 btl./mixed case

’13 Broken SpurZinfandel • Russian River Valley e ¦rst duty of Zinfandel is to turn you on. If it doesn’t hit you over the head with a sock full of blackberries and blueberries, it is not doing its job. is was on our mind when we selected this lot of old-vine Zinfandel. It serves up raspberry jam, red roses, black cherries, and enough acidity to light the way through a long and languorous ¦nish. Drink up, wine rustler. 1WBSP13ZN3 | $27.95 btl. $25.16 btl./mixed case

’12 Broken SpurCabernet Sauvignon • Knights ValleyWe rustled these barrels from a great producer in Sonoma who shall remain unnamed. Concentrated, gutsy, dusty Cabernet, this punches way above its weight class. Black cherries and currants wash over the senses. Great Cab from the land Peter Michael made famous. 1WBSP12CS3 | $29.95 btl. $26.96 btl./mixed case

Broken Spur is our project dedicated to red wine value. Sourcing fruit from top vineyards throughout California – and

the Birthplace of rgs Boyer-Martenot

The Boyer-Martenot cellar beneath the streets of Meursault is like many in Burgundy: small, family-run for generations and

inextricably linked to the vineyards they farm. Specializing in the stunning Chardonnay plots that surround the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, they are truly white wine masters. But what we love about them the most is that they let us play in the cellar… we get to taste a couple dozen barrels and select our favorites for export. We chalk ’em up right then and

there, and from that moment on, they’re destined for our clientele’s own cellars here in the U.S. ese are bespoke white Burgundies selected exclusively for you. It’s not easy following in the footsteps of Yves Boyer-Martenot. is meticulous artisan in Meursault has for decades crafted sonorous white Burgundy, each vintage true to its terroir and impressively long-lived. It’s not easy, unless you’re Yves’ son, Vincent, a talented young winemaker with the touch of a seasoned veteran with a deep respect for tradition and a vision for continued greatness. He’s working to push the family estate toward completely natural winemaking, having eliminated the use of pesticides in the ¦elds since 2002.

’14 Boyer-Martenot “Cuvée Fernand Boyer RGS” MeursaultHere’s our own barrel selection the Boyers named after Vincent’s grandfather, Fernand Boyer. e barrels we chose are made up of multiple Meursault village vineyards: Moulin Landin, Les Pelles Dessous, Le Pellans & Le Prie de Manche. is smells like fresh ground hazelnuts, lemon butter, and minerals. e ultimate pairing? Pan-fried lobster ¦lets with a reduction of white burgundy and cream. 1WBMA14IW3CF | $79.95 btl. $71.96 btl./mixed case

’14 Boyer-Martenot “Cuvée RGS” Puligny-MontrachetGorgeously leesy, spicy, and fresh, this is a great way to dive into the Puligny pool feet rst. Almond oil, orange blossoms, and chalky, creamy notes are going to overwhelm you in the best way. You could even pour this for a California Chardonnay enthusiast and mint a new convert! A Carneros oVerachieVerStarmont

Enter René Schlatter, proprietor of Merryvale. Starmont began as a side project of Merryvale in the early 1990s,as a second label of sorts, and over the years it took on a life of its own, outgrowing the Merryvale winery in St. Helena. In 2005, Starmont acquired 50 acres of prime Carneros vineyard, a portion of the Stanly Ranch Estate, ¦rst planted in 1872, and a prime source for many years for Louis Martini. Today, the wines are made on-site in a certi¦ed Napa Green Winery by Merryvale winemaker Sean Foster, Starmont winemaker Je  Crawford, and their team. is is a winery to watch, a second label no more, and a force to be reckoned with in their own right! ese wines ¤oored us.

’13 Starmont “Stanly Ranch Estate” Chardonnay • Carneros Pay special attention to this Chardonnay. It’s one of the nest examples we’ve tasted this year. Period. the legacy continues Continuum

Continuum Estate, St. Helena

Tim Mondavi is a believer in history, family and world-class wine, and his passion for Continuum draws on all three. Tracing a line from the Mondavi clan’s start in the

California wine industry in 1919, through Prohibition, continuing through the rise of his father’s eponymous Oakville estate to present day, Tim and his family are keenly aware of their unique Napa Valley story. His aim is to do the fundamental opposite of what chipped away at the Robert Mondavi legacy by a return to focusing on vision, precision and quality.Continuum is one wine and one singular winegrowing estate with the property scouted and purchased for the sole purpose of restoring the philosophy that built the Mondavi empire: No excuses and no compromises. With each of his children and his sister’s family contributing their talents and energy to the project, Continuum is a return to the old ways of Mondavi. Yet Tim insists – as all great winemakers do – that this is foremost an expression of their Pritchard Hill estate. He calls the property “Oakville with elevation” and adds that the project is a reection of ve things: “the land, the land, the land, the land and us.” is is a Renaissance in the bottle for one of Napa’s most iconic winemaking legacies.

’13 ContinuumProprietary Red • Napa ValleyTim Mondavi and his family hit it out of the park in the majestic 2013 vintage, one of the best harvests in the valley since 1974, 1994, or 2001. And it’s a special year for the family, commemorated with the inscription 1-40-100 on the label. e 1 represents the ¦rst vintage made entirely at the estate on Pritchard Hill; the 40 represents Tim’s 40th vintage making wine; and the 100 represents what would have been Robert Mondavi’s 100th birthday, which is also signi¦ed by a dove on the label. In short, this is an heirloom in the making that is a must for any serious collector’s cellar. 1WCON13PR3 | $224.99 btl. (Net item – no discounts apply).

Herbaceous notes envelope the palate, which has a distinctly delicate texture. However, don’t be fooled by its elegance; this is as ¤avorful a rum as we’ve tasted in a while. Great vintage rum at this price is a steal. Only a few hundred cases made it to our shores, so this won’t last long! 80 proof1SDON05RU3SB | $54.99 btl. (Net item – no discounts apply).

Rey Campero “Jabalí” Mezcal • MexicoProduced and bottled by one of the few palenques in Oaxaca that produce estate grown mezcal, this variety of agave (Agave Convallis) is among the rarest you’ll see distilled into Mexico’s native spirit. While the plant grows abundantly, it is di¶cult to get a proper distillate from, so when it happens, the mezcaleros are jumping for joy! Slight citrus notes with a soft, herbaceous quality, this is among the smoothest mezcal we’ve presented to you, and we fell in love with it immediately. We took as much of it as we could get, but this bottling is extremely rare, and we urge you to act quickly. One bottle limit per customer. 97 proof1SRCANVME3J | $114.99 btl. Ehlers Estate, St. Helena

CABERNET SAUVIGNONwe 'Ve done the triage!

Origins of Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is thought to be a spontaneous wild crossing of the black Cabernet Franc vine and the Sauvignon Blanc vine that happened somewhere in Bordeaux in the 17th century. is discovery was made by Professor Carole Meredith, of UC Davis. “Sauvignon” itself means “wild vine,” so we can assume that these vines are indigenous to Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon was not widely planted in Bordeaux until the 18th century, and did not make it to the Napa Valley until 1852.
