Dear Families Wow its May! This year is flying. Our Fun Run was a huge success. Our students participated in a most friendly, caring, competitive way. It was wonderful to see children sprinting, walking, jogging and stopping to help an exhausted or injured friend. Many families arrived to watch, run, walk and encourage which was appreciated by us all. Thank you for contributing to the fund raising for this event. We always raise a significant amount of money which goes toward the upkeep and upgrade of our playground. We have a great school community. Saturday sport is well and truly happening. Families make an amazing commitment to be out and about at Saturday sport. It is such an important part of children’s lives to be engaged in a team sport that exposes them to many different children. They learn to be a good sportsperson, develop skills, learn to be social and have heaps of fun. I know it is a costly exercise for families but such an important priority. Good luck to all who are participating. I am sure they will make us all proud. Our building project is slowly progressing and should begin sometime in term three. It is exciting to think that we will have a modern new building for some of our children to learn and grow in. We are continuing to look at ways to improve or replace other buildings that are looking a bit tired. Our new black fence around part of our environment looks fabulous and has certainly added to the look of our school. We are now looking to replace the entire blue fence in other parts of the school. If you know of anyone who could recycle the blue fence please contact the office. We will advertise it for sale soon. The interschool Cross Country event occurred yesterday and we had many successful children who will progress to the next level. Congratulations to those children. Last week Anzac day was commemorated here at school where our children learnt about our Anzacs and were most respectful. It was most pleasing to see several children attend both the dawn service and the 11am service. Well done to families and teachers for making this happen. Assembly is tomorrow! We welcome families to our assembly to celebrate our children success Assembly will begin at 2.20pm

Remember -Its not cool to be away from school!

Bourchier Street School are a walking school starting

Monday! 6-week commitment!!

Your child will bring home information on “Change to Walking” at the end of the week. I encourage you to discuss with your child options for walking all or part of the way to school.

I know that a number of families live beyond walking distance. I encourage you to drive part of the way and then walk along one of the 15-minute walking routes. Footpath markers are being installed this week.

When walking to school, I encourage you to walk together.

Over the next six weeks I ask you to walk to school at least one time more each week than you normally do.

For more information about Change to Walking, please contact Paul White – PE Cordinator

Over the next six weeks (7th May to 15th June) we are encouraging our students to walk to school because children who walk are more attentive and focused in class. Also, more children walking reduces traffic and improves safety around schools.
