S C H O O L N E W S  

This  week  I  have  spoken  to  various  students  about correct  social  networking  and  their  digital  footprint. All  students must  be  aware  that  what  they  put  on social networks stays on there for a prolonged period of  me even  if  the  student  thinks  they have deleted what they have wri en or posted.  The digital footprint of all students will be inves gated by  prospec ve  employers  as  they  leave  school  and move  into  the  workforce.  I  spoke  to  the  students about  possibly  losing  their  dream  job  in  the  future because  of  things  they  posted  on  social  networking sites in 2013.  Please  encourage  your  child  to  be  a  good  digital ci zen  at  all  mes.  The  following website  is  a  good one to help you as parents start this conversa on with all students from K to 12.  h p://www.cybersmart.gov.au/ I  look forward to mee ng many parents at the school athle cs carnival this Thursday.  Have a great week  Simon McKinney 

Athle c Carnival This Thursday we will hold our Athle cs Carnival at the Hennessey Tape Oval. All students will come to school as normal dressed in their house colours.   House colours are as follows:‐  Maple ‐  black and orange Beech  ‐  green and gold Cedar  ‐  red and white 

 A er rolls are marked the whole student body will be walked to the oval in  me for a 9‐30 War Cry.   

We  will  also  be  conduc ng  our  coin  trail  with  the proceeds  going  to  “Give  Me  5  For  Kids”  Hospital appeal.  

Parents  are  most  welcome  to  a end  the  day  and cheer on their children. Students are encouraged to sit in  their  houses  when  they  are  not  par cipa ng. Novelty  races/games  will  be  provided  for  non‐par cipators. 

Primary League Last Monday three teams from Primary a ended the 7‐aside  League  Carnival  held  at  Nambucca.  We entered  a  compe ve  senior  team,  a mixed  junior team and a senior girl’s tag team.  The compe ve senior team played wonderfully and went through the day undefeated. The Tag team lost two games but came good at the end of the day and won  the  last  two. Our  junior  team  drew  one, won one and lost two.  All  members  of  the  teams  played  very  well  and enjoyed  the day. The whole purpose of the carnival was  to  expose  students  to  league  and  hopefully encourage  students  who  don’t  normally  play  to experience the game and take it up.  The Senior Compe ve  side qualified  for a  regional final to be played on the 24th June  in Coffs Harbour. The winner of this will qualify to play in Sydney later in the Year. We  look  forward to  these games as we will go with a full side be er prepared.  During the day we discovered the Group Two League Day was to be held the following day, unfortunately we had not been no fied. A  local school had pulled out  and  the organisers were  keen  for us  to fill  the gap.  Some  quick  organisa on  was  made  (only Bowraville Parents could do  it) and at 8‐30 Tuesday morning we were  on  our way  to  Coffs Harbour  to play 13‐aside league, the winner qualifying to play in the Group Carnival in Sydney.

Lost Property Please  remember  to  label  your  children’s  clothing, especially their jumpers. Once again the lost property boxes are full and overflowing. 

K‐3 Computer News The  K‐3  classes  have  been working  very  hard  over the last 2 terms during computer lessons.  The  students  have  used  the  Pivot  programme  to create simple anima ons.  The computers have also been used  to support  the topics  being  taught  in  classrooms  with  students using Tux Paint to create Venn diagrams to sort and classify sea animals.  Currently  students  are  learning  about managing  a catchment while protec ng water quality using  the online Catchment Detox game.  Parents  can  help  their  children  greatly  by working with  them on  learning  their  family names. Knowing last  names  is  needed  by  students  to  log  onto  the internet  in  all  years  K‐12  and  is  an  important milestone to achieve in computers in K‐3.

Year 2/3 Stories We all had a fantas c day at the Dolphin Marine Magic.  This  Term,  during  Literacy  Lessons  we  have  been working  with  the  children  to  create  more  interes ng sentences by using  joining words to  link two  ideas. We have been encouraging them to use 4 other words such as: when,  that, which, when, with, because, as well as and also  rather  than  ‘and’ all  the  me. By  reading  the following  stories  you  will  be  able  to  see  that  many children are becoming more confident with this skill.  Yesterday, our class went to the Dolphin Marine Magic at Coffs Harbour and we  travelled  there on  the  school bus.  

We  looked at a dolphin’s  skeleton. The  turtle’s  shell  is made of kera n.  

Our  first  ac vity we  did was  hug  Aussie who was  an Australian seal.  

Then  we  went  to  see  the  blue  penguins  who  had different  coloured  tags on  them  to  tell which one was female and male.  

When we were at  the  li le fish  tank  there were  some tropical fish.  

The  dolphins  were  having  a  race  and  Bucky  cheated because he did not swim the whole pool as he only did three quarters of the pool.  

There  were  two  sharks  in  the  tank  and  one  was  a Wobbygong shark and I forget what the other one was.  

Now you can see why  I had a great day at the Dolphin Marine Magic with my class.

Yesterday we went to the Dolphin Marine Magic at Coffs Harbour. We went on the school bus to Coffs Harbour.  

Yesterday, I got to pat a dolphin at the Dolphin Marine Magic in Coffs Harbour. I went there by bus with my friends.  

First of all I got to hug Aussie the Sea Lion. I got to get my photo taken with Aussie who is an Australian Sea Lion.  

I got to pat Bucky and Zippy the dolphins. By Toria

 Yesterday we went to the Dolphin Marine Magic at Coffs Harbour. We went on the school bus to Coffs Harbour.  

My  favourite  bit was when  the  dolphins  did  a  double back flip.  

We got to hug a sea lion. I got my picture taken with it.

Yesterday I went to the Dolphin Marine Magic show in Coffs Harbour on a bus.  

My favourite part was when I hugged the sea lion.  

I got to brush Zippy the Dolphin’s bright, yellow teeth with a very big tooth brush.  

I  liked  it when we had  to  call Zippy up  from under the water.  The  dolphin  did  some  tricks  like  double back flips and riding on a big ball like a sur oard.

We went in the bus and met Mum there. She got me hot chips for my lunch.

We  went  to  the  Dolphin  Marine  Magic  at  Coffs Harbour.  

My favourite thing was having my photo taken with Ozzie, the sea lion as he felt wet and slimy.  

Then  we  went  to see  the  li le  blue penguins  and  one of  them  was  in  its burrow.  If  they had a  red  tag  on  them they  were  a  boy. The  penguin  in  its burrow  had  a  red tag on it.  

A er that we went to the fish tank and there was a Wobbygong  shark  that  was  about  a  metre  long. There was also a Cod that was very big.  

Next we got to see the dolphins doing a performance and they jumped through a hoop that was high in the air.  

At  the  end  of  the  day we were  red  and went  to sleep on the bus.

Yesterday  Kinder,  Yr.  1,  2  &  3 went  to  the  Dolphin Marine Magic on a school bus to Coffs Harbour.  

We met a Sea Lion named Ozzie. He was 7 years old and we got to have a big hug with Ozzie.  

The dolphins were doing cool tricks  in the pool, Zippy and Bucky were having a race and Bucky cheated but Zippy won. Amanda got to brush Zippy’s teeth with a very big tooth brush.  

I got to throw three hoops at Sydney the sea lion and she had black teeth that were sharp. It had lots of fur to keep it warm at night.

My story  is about going to the Dolphin Marine Magic show at Coffs Harbour.  My  favourite  bit  yesterday,  was  hugging  the  seal because  it  felt all  soggy and wet. Then we went and watched the dolphins do lots of tricks.  When  I  felt  the  dolphin’s  belly  I  was  really  excited because  I’ve  always wanted  to  touch  a  dolphin  and see what is felt like because I thought their skin was all rough but it was smooth and rubbery instead.  The  next  thing  I  liked  was  seeing  the  li le,  blue penguins as they were sooooo cute and cuddly!!  Next  I  saw a  shark and  lots of fish  swimming around the sea corals and sea anemones. A  lot of them were really cool as I have never seen them before.  My Mum came with my class and a er a really exci ng day my Mum bought me a cute, li le fairy penguin to remind me of that day.

VACATION CARE

FUN FOR CHILDREN DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Vacation care is a federally funded service which provides child care for primary school aged children of parents and carers who are working, studying or looking for work; respite places are also available. This service operates in Macksville and Nambucca Heads during the school holi-days from Monday 1st July to Friday 12th July. Our Nam-bucca Centre (ONLY) will be open on Monday 15th for the Pupil Free Day. The programme provides high quality care, fun activities, sport, craft, excursions and lots more! Hours of operation are from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm; fees start from $6.85 per child per day (with Child Care Benefits); even less with Child Care Rebate! After School Care service also operates at Frank Par-tridge VC Primary School Monday to Friday during school terms. For information on both services and bookings please phone Gail at Family Services on 65681474 Monday to Friday 9.00am – 4.30pm.or email vaccare@bigpond.com. Bookings and enrolments are necessary before children attend.

Macksville Gi  teams up with Healthy Harold 2013, marks the 60th anniversary of the Macksville Gi  & the Gi  commi ee hopes to make it a memorable event. This year all funds  raised  by  the  Charity Gi  Queens will  go  to  the  local  Life  Educa on  Support Group;  this will  be  used  towards  the purchase of a wheelchair ramp for the local van. This will ensure that all children will have easy access to the van, when it visits their school, and will be able to enjoy the important healthy lifestyle & drug educa on programs delivered by Life Educa on.  The Gi  commi ee is now seeking Charity Gi  Queen entrants, to assist in this worthwhile cause; it’s lots of fun, you will learn new skills & be helping your community. You must be at least 15 years old by November 9, there is no upper age limit, and you must be a resident of the Nambucca Valley.  The Gi   commi ee would also welcome any businesses wishing  to  sponsor a Charity Gi  Queen & provide a float  for  the parade.  Help to make this the best Gi  Parade yet. Please contact Lesley Smith on 65 687638
