Friday, February 10, 2017 Sheridan, Noblesville, Cicero, Arcadia, Atlanta, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield Vol. 4, No. 28 Today: Partly sunny. Tonight: Mostly cloudy. TODAY’S WEATHER HIGH: 41 LOW: 37 The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville has been awarded $500 by Staples Foundation, the private charitable arm of Staples, Inc., through a program called 2 Million & Change that allows Staples associates around the globe to direct more than $2 million in donations each year. “The Staples Foundation’s generosity will directly benefit our Academic Success programming that includes homework help, tutoring, STEM programming, and much more,” said Executive Director, Becky Terry. “We would like to thank Chris Zehner, from our local Noblesville Staples, for helping us acquire this grant.” Created in 2012, the 2 Million & Change program is a philanthropic initiative which allows Staples associates around the world to direct funding to non-profit organiza- tions focused on academic education or job skills. The program encourages local community engagement by awarding larger grants to organizations where associates are highly engaged in volunteering or fundraising – up to $25,000 per organization. In 2015, Staples awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to 875 local organizations in support of education and job skills programs, including job readiness for home- less individuals, career exploration for high school students, academic scholarships, mentoring and more. “For 30 years, Staples associates have been making a difference in their communities around the world,” said Regis Mulot, chief human resources officer, Staples, Inc., "We’re thrilled that the 2 Million & Change program lets our associates make an even greater impact on the organi- zations they are passionate about.” Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville awarded $500 grant Hamilton County Reporter Publisher Jeff Jellison announced the Reporter will partner with Larry Lannan to provide increased local news coverage in the Fishers area. Lannan, a Fishers resident since 1991, is an award-winning journalist that produces a popular online blog and podcast at LarryInFishers.com. Lannan will be sharing Fishers news with the Reporter and in turn the Reporter will provide Lannan with news from around the county for use on his website.” “Fishers is growing at lightspeed and Larry Lannan has his fingers on the pulse of Fishers news. He has a passion for his community and the relationship he has with community leaders is well recognized. Larry’s content will be of tremendous interest to our readers,” stated Jellison. Lannan LarryInFishers.com partners with the Reporter Noblesville resident Sharon McMahon has published a book and will donate the royalties to the Humane Society of Hamilton County to assist senior dogs and cats which may need additional medical assistance to make them more adoptable. The book, “Sweetie’s Scars: A Journey of Hurt, Hope, and Healing” is available on Amazon. “Sweetie was rescued by my husband Bruce and me in 2005 from a horrific situation in another County and she was badly wounded. Surgeries, therapy, and some loving care turned her life around. Unfortunately we lost Sweetie at age 16 this past November.” McMahon states that all royalties she receives from the book sales will be donated to a special fund called “Sweetie’s Rainbow Fund” at the Humane Society for Hamilton County. The purpose of the Fund, according to McMahon, is to provide funds specifically for senior dogs and cats designated as five years and older who may come into the facility needing extraordinary care. “I know that many prospective adopters who might have wanted to rescue Sweetie may have hesitated due to the cost and requirements of her medical care. The Local resident publishes book to help Humane Society Thursday evening was the annual Awards and recognition event hosted by the Northern Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce at the Palomino Ballroom. From the wonderful menu to the door prizes the event was a great evening for all to enjoy. The Chamber took time to recognize busi- nesses and individuals who have stood out as prominent members of our community. This year they had over 60 submissions for recognition, which was far above previous years. There was a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the fun Casino style atmo- sphere as they tried to win more tickets to win baskets filled with great prizes. The baskets were each donated to the chamber from local business and went all the way up to $350 in value.
