Database servers, data storage, clients and operating systems through Amazon Web Services (AWS) rather than private on-premise or data center hardware

Services provided by cloud vendor; for example utilize AWS Oracle Relational Database Service instead of Waters embedded Oracle installers

The software is provided as a complete solution that is run and managed by the service provider (e.g. Waters would manage deployment, backup, recovery, maintenance, upgrades, etc.)

o Customers are telling Waters they still want to retain the Administration, Qualification and Validation of their GxP workloads in the Cloud, as GxP and cloud are new territory. – IaaS is what customers are requesting from Waters today

o Will Waters utilize more of the platform (PaaS) in the future?– Yes. We believe this is an important next step for customers and Waters has projects

underway with investigations around AWS Oracle RDS Service, as example.

o Will Waters move to SaaS in the future?– Yes. Projects are underway and we are actively working with customers around their

requirements in a SaaS environment for GxP applications.

Warum starten wir mit IaaS?


o When moving to an IaaS Cloud infrastructure, we felt our product should be at the latest architecture level for best results and future version changes

o Empower 3 FR4 updates Empower 3 to Oracle 12 for the database and provides support for Windows 10– Both changes allow Waters to utilize Cloud infrastructure more effectively

o Every future version release of Empower beyond Empower 3 FR4 will be supported in the Cloud with the appropriate changes and updates to the deliverables– This is just like supporting a new version of VMware, Citrix or an Operating System

and will be part of every Software Development Lifecycle process release

Warum Empower 3 FR4 als Start?


o Why infrastructure as a service?– Provides the highest level of flexibility and management control over IT resources – Most similar to existing IT resources that many IT departments and developers are familiar with today

o What is Empower Cloud?– With Empower 3 FR4, Empower Cloud is a deployment model

not a ‘product’ – The deliverable: Waters Tested Templates and Deployment Procedures

that enable our customers to deploy Empower 3 FR4 utilizing Amazon Web Services infrastructure (rather than on-premise server hardware)

o What is the costs to customers?– Free. Every Empower customer who is on Maintenance has access to Empower 3 FR4 and the ability to deploy in AWS.– Waters Professional Services for Enterprise Assessment, Deployment and Validation are available from Waters– Customer has their own contract and relationship with AWS and manages the environments as they do today with on-

premise Enterprise
