FOREWORD

The giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii is one of the most covetedand delicious edible decapod crustacean. Other species of this genus, also constitutean important fishery. The culture of Macrobrachium spp., particularly that ofscampi M. rosenbergii has gained recently much importance due to its higheconomic value. A large quantum of production comes from the open watersystems as well.

Therefore, an attempt has been made to encompass information related to differentspecies of Macrobrachium in the form of a bibliography as a document for researchsupport. Compilation of literature OFt this very important species is a hard joband I have every reason to believe that this compilation work, mostly based oncontributions from India and neighbouring countries, will be useful to the students, researchers and other stake holders involved in fisheries development.

The persons involved in this compilation deserve appreciation for their efforts.
