Wheeler, Kamaldian & Chard. We hope you all enjoy your short stay with us and have a safe journey back home later on.

After starting 2015 without a win in the first six matches, I am delighted that we have found our feet once again with two wins against Highmoor Ibis and Reading Town followed up with a one all draw at Holyport on Saturday.

That match really was a game of two halves with us performing better in the first period and leading at half time thanks to Charlie Evanson’s sublime goal only for the hosts to be the better team after the break and draw themselves level.

We met Ardley at the end of November and came away with a 3-2 win thanks to Jake White’s stoppage time goal. Early goals in that match meant it was 2-2 inside 25 minutes and after we were reduced to ten men in the 61st minute, it really was great for the side to battle so well and get the late winner.

There are usually goals in this fixture at Larges Lane with United winning 2-1 last season, and beating us 9-1 previously though we did win one exciting encounter 4-1.

Away from the first team and our development team and youth team are performing well and continue to push players through the teams as we prepare them for first team football.

Back to today and thank you as always for your continued support.

Come on U Robins! #coyRobinsDarrell ‘Dudley’ Freeland

Norman Stacey, Ardley have flourished since gaining Hellenic League status. Proudly providing one of the finest playing surfaces at this level, plus excellent off pitch facilities for both players and supporters. Added to that the club has earned a reputation for being one of the most hospitable clubs to visit.

In the last 25 years Ardley have won the Oxfordshire Senior League Division One title on three occasions as well as the Junior Shield, also on three occasions. Apart from a barren period between 1973 and 1983 the club has won trophies almost every season throughout it’s history.

The club were in the “old” Division One of The Hellenic League for six years, winning the league in consecutive season’s 1996/7 and 1997/8.

Also winners of the Division One Cup for four consecutive season’s between 1994/5 and 1997/8, a record of achievement never previously attained and unlikely to be surpassed with the introduction of the combined Premier and Division One Challenge Cup competition. 1997/8 also saw the Ardley Reserve side as Champions of their league, and promotion to Division One of the Reserves section. League restructuring, and facility, requirements towards the end of the 1990’s saw Ardley in the new “First Division”.

The club worked hard to improve the facilities, which was rewarded with promotion to the Hellenic Premier League in season 2003/4. The following year the club was rewarded for it’s achievements being awarded the Hungerford Cup for the greatest improvement in facilities and playing. Further accolade came in the same season on being awarded the Non League Paper’s “National Game Award” for the most improved facilities.

Season 2006/7 proved to be one of the best in the club’s history finishing third in the Premier Division and also winning the Supplementary Cup. Season 2007/8 provided mixed fortunes, the League position was not as great as recent previous seasons, but further success in Cup competition was rewarded with finalist places in both the Floodlit Cup and Supplementary Cup. The Supplementary Cup Final was the last game in charge for manager Dan Still who had guided the team to three seasons of success.

Following Still’s departure, the manager’s hotseat was filled by Kevin Brock for the start of the 2008/9 season. The ex-Oxford Utd, QPR & Newcastle Utd pro brought his experience as manager of both Oxford City and Banbury Utd to the club and this saw them enter arguably their most successful phase in their history. Achieving league positions of 5th and 7th in his first 2 seasons, Kevin then built a side which would challenge strongly for league honours in each of their next 2 seasons. In addition, the club also won the Bluefin Insurance League Cup in 2009/10 and narrowly lost in the final the following year. The 2013/14 season saw the side register their best league finish as they ended up 2nd having made Wantage Town work hard for their title. By way of consolation they also won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup for the first time by convincinglybeating Kidlington 4-0 in the final to realise a long standing dream for their chairman Norman Stacey who has put so much into the club for the past 30 years

ForwardForwardHaving been at North Leigh before a spell at University, Luke is a pacey forward who has quickly settled in at this level and is sure to progress.

Signed in Sept 2014, having previously played for Banbury United and Brackley Town among others, Ricky is a talented striker who has already shown just what he can do.

Diego joins Ardley this season having previously been with Kidlington as well as a number of teams abroad.

Troy holds the ball up well and has limitless energy so will run and run. He will be looking to add more goals to his tally this season.

Connor is a strong player with skill, pace and a keen eye for goal and joins us alongside his brother Luke.

Along with his brother, Darren, Adam is one of our longest serving players who can play in many roles.

Mickey is new to Ardley this season having moved to the area, he has previously played in the Coventry area and for the Army.

Club Captain. Ollie leads his men brilliantly by example and is a key member of the team who played in every single match in 2013/4.

Jon's experience at higher level comes to the fore when he plays for Ardley and he was a major factor in the club's success last season.

A product of the Brackley Town Youth system, Kieran has plenty of pace and will want to show that he can play successfully at this level.

Returning to Ardley after a couple of seasons, Danny is capable of posing problems to any opposition given the right service.

Starting his second season with Ardley, Tommy's calm and skilful approach last season contributed to the back four's low goals-conceded total.

The senior player in the squad, Darren's loyalty and service to the club is an object lesson to young players as he is never less than committed to the cause.

A man of few words but one of the most dependa-ble defenders to have donned an Ardley shirt. He will surely be a key man in any success we have this season.

Signed for the 2014/15 season from Wantage Town, Gavin is a young player who is already proving his worth to the side and will only improve with experience.

One of last seasons key players, Callum is not short of confidence and is able to score goals regularly as well.

A pacy wide player, Joe will surely torment a number of full backs this season as he has so often in the past.

2014's Player of the year for players and support-ers, Jack undoubtedly vies for Ardley's best ever keeper title.

Improving with every season, Harry has shown that he has what it takes to play regularly at this level.

Signed as back-up to Jack Harding, Tom has shown when he's played that he is comfortable at this level.

Page 10: Bracknell Town vs. Ardley United - 17/03/15

Where did you start out your career? Do you mean as a Kid? Sperry Dynamos u9, but Joined Bracknell Town as youth player.

Were you always a forward? Yes mainly. Played a bit on the either wing and the first position I played at school in year 4 was as a right back.

When did you join Bracknell Town? I was 16. I joined the under 18’s team in 1988.

You were the main man during my early years watching football at Larges Lane. Did it feel like something special at the time? Yes. We had a great team full of experience. The main bulk of the team was made up of players that had played at a higher standard and with a few youngsters around them proved to be a winning formular.

You scored 108 league goals for Bracknell Town during your career - the highest total in 40 years. Was there one that stood out? I can remember 2 that stood out. Not great goals but who we were against. one was against Aldershot at home in a 3-3 draw. It wasn’t a complete over head kick but it was behind me and I still don’t know how I got it in! The second was against Farnborough in the FA Cup. We lost 2-3 but my goal put us 2 nil up and it looked good until the dying minutes.

What was your most memorable moment playing at Larges Lane? Jam packed Larges Lane against Aldershot. Great crowd that day and something we were not used to but rose to the occasion.

You were renowned for your partnership with Tony Wood, but who would you say was your favourite strike partner? Had to be Tony. He was quality. Coming towards the end of his playing career but could hold the ball up and knew where the net was. Very strong player. I was more his provider but between us we scored loads. Part 2 of our interview will be printed in Saturday’s programme against Flackwell Heath, including Justin’s best XI

A WORD WITHJustin Day

Our series of chats continues as we catch up with a Bracknell Town legend - striker Justin Day - Bracknell’s top goalscorer for the last 40 years.

Thatcham snatch a late point #coyRobinsThe Allied Counties Youth League South division title race was thrown wide open last Wednesday night as top of the table Bracknell Town were held to a 3-3 draw at Thatcham Town.

Robins led 2-0 at one stage, but the hosts clawed their way back into the game – it all looked settled at the death though when James Payne gave Bracknell a 3-2 lead but Thatcham’s Conor Lynch pounced on a fumble by the usually reliable Ellis Willett deep in injury time to earn a share of the spoils.

The result puts Bracknell (31 points) a point ahead of second placed Binfield having both played 14 games. Thatcham Town remain in fourth having also played 14, with 22 points.

NEXT FIXTURE: 19th March home to Wealdstone (league cup)

Steve Lee #coyRobinsSteve made his Development Team debut against Holyport on 17th January but is an important part of Paul Howe’s youth team, and won the North East Hants Youth League Premier with Bracknell Town u18s two weeks ago and is headed to the US in the summer to play for William Penn University Men’s Soccer team.

Previous Clubs: Whitegrove FC, Curley Park Rangers FC, Mytchett FC, Crusaders FC, Farnborough FC

Date of Birth: 20/02/97 Position: Defender

Club supported: Tottenham Hotspur and Aldershot Town

Best game played in and why?: The NEHYL cup final last year for our U18 Sunday team. We came second in the league and were playing the team who had won it in the final, they hadn’t lost for two years. The game went into extra time and we scored the winner in the 120th minute- everyone went crazy. Beating Binfield 4-1 at home at the start of the season was good too!

Ambitions for the season: Win the Allied Counties League and have a good cup run- hopefully try and win it. Keep improving as a player playing for the development team as well.

Best ground played at: I’ve played at a few good Conference South grounds like Basingstoke and Maidenhead, but pitch and facilities wise Farnborough FC’s was really good. Can’t forget about Larges Lane too!

Funniest moment in football?: Scoring from the halfway line for Farnborough a few years back- it was definately a shot!

Place of Birth: Camberley

PROFILESteve Lee

winner and a heroic Garry Aulsberry performance, despite having to play the last 31 minutes including stoppage time with ten men following Shane Cooper-Clark’s 63rd minute dismissal.

There was a debut for this spell handed to Taylor Elliott-Money in the heart of defence with the player re-joining the Robins to make his first appearance in over fourteen months with his last match for us ironically in a 3-1 away loss to Ardley last season.

Manager Keith Pennicott-Bowen also handed a debut to midfielder Scott Drummond-Bayne whilst goalkeeper Aulsberry was recalled to the side.

It took only two minutes for the hosts to open the scoring. John Gardner did well down the left before sending over a high ball which Ricky Johnson headed on for strike partner Luke Ingram to slot under Aulsberry.

Aulsberry was being called into action as he claimed the ball at Joe Eyre’s feet whilst he denied Johnson from close range.

The Robins began to get into the match with Josh Delander heading Jordan Rowland’s cross at Jack Harding and Cooper-Clark finding the goalkeeper from 22 yards.

Sam Whiting drew his side level on thirteen minutes. Martin Bradshaw fed the ball inside to Whiting and the captain turned his marker before picking out the bottom left hand corner from twenty yards.

Bracknell moved ahead in the 19th minute after great work from Delander down the right side saw him slip the ball into Drummond-Bayne who fired beyond Harding into the far corner from the edge of the box.

The lead lasted only five minutes before Ardley were on level terms. Harry Brown conceded possession and Dan Money slipped over allowing Eyre to find Callum Convey out wide and his cross was met by Johnson who had a free header which beat Aulsberry.

As half time neared, the visitors were forced to hang on as Drummond-Bayne and Rowland both blocked goal-bound efforts and Aulsberry did brilliantly to tip over Gardner’s shot.

Half Time: Ardley United 2– 2 Bracknell Town It was Ardley who started the second period rightly again with Convey connecting with Johnson’s ball but just missing the target from ten yards and Eyre cutting inside

Bracknell Town returned from Ardley with all three points thanks to Jake White’s last minute

Despite the flow of attacks from United, the Berkshire side had a great chance to move ahead in the sixtieth minute but Bradshaw blazed over from a tight angle with Cooper-Clark in space and screaming for the ball.

It got a lot harder for Bracknell with Cooper-Clark’s 63rd minute sending off. The striker collided with Harding and after being kicked by the goalkeeper, the lively striker reacted by pushing him away two handed in the face and he had to go.

Aulsberry was by far the best player on display today – although Elliott-Money put in a great performance too – and the keeper was forced into action denying both Gardner and Ingram.

Harry Brock found himself in space on the left before floating over a lofted ball which Ollie Stanbridge got a head to but Aulsberry magnificently tipped it over.

It looked like a share of the spoils when White raced in unchallenged but finished poorly as he fired wide right on 88 minutes but he made amends two minutes later.

The winner was a great team goal following a flowing move. Ebenezer Opoku-Ware sent the ball inside to Whiting who in turn sent it back wide to Rowland who was in space. The left-back then delivered a cross with some pace that White connected with to beat Harding.

There was almost a fourth goal in stoppage time as Opoku-Ware met Whiting’s ball but he shot at Harding although the miss was not significant as the whistle blew immediately afterwards which sparked scenes of wild celebration for the brave Bracknell players.

After a run of three away matches, attention now turns back to Larges Lane with a run of four home matches there now starting this coming Tuesday when Shrivenham are the visitors.

but curling just beyond the far left post.

The pressure continued as Aulsberry made a great save to deny Ingram who had met Eyre’s cross and from the resulting corner Ben Thomas shot wide left.

Keith Penicott-Bowen - Manager. Took over as manager in October 2014 having been assistant for two years. ‘Bowes’ is a club legend having played for over a decade during the 90s and was part of the side that reached the FA Cup First Round Proper in 2000. Keith has also been a coach at Binfield.

Garry Aulsberry - Experienced goalkeeper who joined the club from Binfield in October after injury to James Hawtree and has been in impressive form. Previously played for Wokingham & Emmbrook.

SponsorNeeded

Michael Watson - A quick and attacking right back who came through our youth system. ‘Mikey’ was arguably our most consistent player last season turning in steady performances on a weekly basis.

SponsorNeeded

Harry Brown - Young defender who joined us from Farnborough. Can play at full back but has mostly been used at centre half. ‘H’ has proved to be a classy and quick addition.

SponsorNeeded

Jordan Rowland - Used to play as a winger but now plying his trade as a left back. An attack minded player who strikes the ball so well he will undoubtedly cause problems with his set piece delivery and excellent crossing.

SponsorNeeded

Grant Goodband - Grant joined us during last season having re-cently moved to the area. A solid defender who loves to tackle and has a committed approach. Can play right-back or centre back.

SponsorNeeded

Tom Williams - A strong central defender who can also play in midfield. Was previously with Binfield where he played a large part in their reserve team title win. Doesn’t lose many aerial battles.

SponsorNeeded

Andre Kelly - Andre joined us from Finchampstead wanting to try his hand at Hellenic Premier Division football. A very composed and cultured central defender who also chips in with a few goals.

Taylor Elliott-Money - In his second spell at the club having featured regularly under Steve Nebbett and Danny Oliphant. Comfortable at full-back and in midfield.

SponsorNeeded

Dan Money - Another player who followed Ed Carpenter from Binfield. Mostly used in our reserve side last season where he played in the centre of the park. A good tackler who gives his all every week.

SponsorNeeded

Tom Nugent - ‘Nuge’ is as strong as an ox and can play in midfield or defence. Scores a lot of headed goals and is a player we miss through being away at university for large parts of the season. An-other who progressed through our youth system.

Tom Barratt - Tom is a talented youngster who progressed through our youth team. Best in midfield and with a powerful shot, he has a great attitude and can also play at the back although he prefers midfield.

SponsorNeeded

Sam Whiting - New club captain for the coming season and is a very cultured midfielder. Primarily playing a central role, he will be the heartbeat of our team and will look to dictate our tempo.

SponsorNeeded

Kennie Chamberlain - Kennie is yet another who came from Binfield and he too was a regular in our reserve side last campaign. Likes to play an attacking central role, ideally behind the striker or strikers whom he can support.

SponsorNeeded

James King - ‘Simba’ also came through our youth system and joined us midway through last season from Wokingham & Em-mbrook. A good dribbler of the ball who likes to operate in the space between midfield and attack.

SponsorNeeded

Martin Bradshaw - Our most versatile player having played almost every position bar goalkeeper last season. Quiet and unassuming, ‘Bradders’ does a job wherever he is asked to play and without any fuss. Prefers to play as a wide attacker.

Charlie Evanson - Pacy striker who made an impressive debut for the club, and followed up with a brace against Oxford City Nomads in his second game for the club.

SponsorNeeded

Khalid Senussi - Another player who joined from Wokingham & Em-mbrook. Khalid is a skilful player more adept at playing in a wide position who tries to find pockets of space to operate in.

SponsorNeeded

Jake White - Came through the clubs youth system where he excelled as a striker before converting into a right-back. Now back playing as a striker where his blistering pace causes problems for opposition defences.

SponsorNeeded

Shane Cooper-Clark - A good target man who can link play very well and looks set to be a key component of our striking options this season. Previously clubs include Ascot United and Wokingham & Emmbrook.

Sponsored by SteveGabb

Lewis Burns - One of a trio of players who joined us from Wokingham & Emmbrook. Lewis also came through our youth system and had a good goals to games ration last season.

SponsorNeeded

Ebby Opoku-Ware - A regular for our youth team and reserve team last campaign and also played a couple of first team matches. Arguably our most skilful player with plenty of tricks up his sleeve, he should not be underestimated despite his tender years.

It remains to be seen how many sides will go down this season with reprieves likely dependant on teams eligible for promotion from Division 1 West and East.

At the top, both Highmoor-IBIS and Flackwell Heath are eligible for promotion, but Heathens look most likely to take the automatic spot as they sit a point behind Highmoor with five games in hand.

Bracknell Town Ladies first team gave debuts to two new players in the 2-2 draw with Woodley United on Sunday.

Victoria Carr and Emma Godden both made debuts for Bracknell as Woodley twice came from behind to take a point from Bracknell who saw Sarah Davern and Tina Leahy hit the back of the net.

A Michelle Melia penalty at the third time of asking was enough for the reserves to earn a point at Sandhurst Town - a game that they dominated for large periods but were pegged back on 80 minutes when the hosts took the lead. The impressive Annie Moffatt was fouled in the box minutes later and Melia thankfully scored the equaliser.

Both teams are looking for new players. Details can be found at www.bracknelltownfc.com/ladies-team

Previous Clubs: Fulham Ladies Date of Birth: 13/03/1987 Place of Birth: West Middlesex

Position: Midfielder

Best game played in and why? Semi final of the League Plate against Summertown Stars. I scored the winner from a free kick outside the 18 yard box in the 89th minute.

Funniest moment in football? Quarter Final in the League Plate Cup game against Holyport and the game went to penalties. Olivia Shaw took her penalty and scored, her celebration was hilarious - she danced about in front of the referee shouting “yes yes yes yes” and did the most funny run over to the girls to celebrate followed by continuing to dance and jump on her boyfriend Mark.

Ambitions for the season:To stay up in Thames Valley Women’s Division South Two League and win the League Plate Cup in April.

Best ground played at:I played at Highbury in the FA Women’s Cup. Great ground!

Sponsorship in football is now almost ubiquitous. Bracknell Town have this season played in cups and leagues sponsored by a range of companies including Uhlsport, Bluefin Sports, Budweiser and Flying Press. In the 1970s and 1980s a large percentage of sporting sponsorship came from breweries so it’s perhaps no surprise that Watney Mann were the first firm to break new ground by sponsoring a football cup in England..

The Watney Mann Invitation Cup was a pre-season tournament for the two sides from each Football League division who had scored the most goals in the previous season. Perhaps a slightly odd way to qualify for a tournament, but the organisers felt it would mean the games between the sides would also be high scoring. Scotland also ran a similar competition at the time called the Drybrough Cup which had a similar qualification criteria.

In 1970 our very own local football league side Reading qualified for the very first year of the cup as one of the top goal scoring teams in Division Three. They lost their tie 3-2 to a George Best inspired Manchester United in front of a bumper 18,000 Elm Park crowd. Manchester United went on to be involved in the very first penalty shoot-out on British soil when they knocked out Hull City in the semi-final. George Best became the first player to score a penalty in a shoot-out, whilst Denis Law became the first player to miss one. United’s progress in the competition was halted by Derby County in the final, the Rams winning 4-1 at The Baseball Ground.

1971 saw the offside rule changed especially for the competition. Players could only be flagged offside if they were in the opponent’s penalty area. There are few details surrounding whether or not this was a popular move or what the results of it were, however the big result of 1971 was Colchester United’s name on the trophy after their penalty shoot-out win over West Bromwich Albion after a 4-4 draw.

Bristol Rovers won the 1972 competition on a penalty shootout at their old Eastville home and the 1973 Cup was lifted by Stoke City at their old Victoria Stadium. In fact of all four venues used for Watney Cup Finals, only West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns remains in use today.

Robins beaten at league leaders #coyRobinsBracknell Town Development battled bravely but were ultimately beaten by league leaders Stokenchurch who recovered from a goal down to win 4-2.

Sean Hanley put the youthful Robins one up before the home side scored three times before half-time to put distance between the teams.

Substitute Leslie Sackey followed up his two goals for the youth team on Wednesday night with a goal here to reduce the arrears to one but a counter attack move saw ‘Church go 4-2 ahead which is how it ended.

Best game played in and why? Play off decider for the league title under 16s against Bracknell Celtic. We won 2-0 and I scored the 2nd from the half way line and was captain so made it even more special. Then went to see Arsenal beat Man United on penalties in the FA CUP final the next day. What a weekend.

Ambitions for the season? To development myself as a player and a coach. To bring players through from the development squad and push into the first team for the future of this club and to hopefully put some silverware in the trophy cabinet for Bracknell.

Best ground played at?Highbury for a training day with the former Arsenal defender Kenny Sansom but also played at Hungerford for a previous club in a cup final.

Funniest moment in football: Went to watch Arsenal away to Derby with my dad. We were there early and watched the players warm up. Right behind the goal row 3. As we were talking we turned to face the pitch and bang, Seaman missed the goal and hit my dad in that special place. His face was priceless.

James Bartaby is a new visitor to Larges Lane having moved to the area recently. He has a blog covering Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Bracknell Town at theopladenway.wordpress.com and runs the excellent undertheleague.com

While The Robins are in league action tonight, our twin town club Bayer Leverkusen are in the Spanish capital Madrid, hoping to finish the job they so impressively started three weeks ago.

La Liga champions - and so nearly the holders of the Champions League too - Atletico Madrid block the werkself’s path to the last eight of this season’s competition.

Hakan Calhanoglu scored the only goal of the first leg in the BayArena, thumping home an unstoppable drive after some superb work from forward Karim Bellarabi presented him with the opportunity. A single goal win was less than Roger Schmidt’s side deserved, though, as they completely outplayed Diego Simeone’s from start to finish, although it would have been a lot different had Fernando Torres’ header not been disallowed late on. Not conceding an away goal could prove crucial, especially if Leverkusen can nick one in the Vicente Calderon.

It won’t just be on the pitch where the action will be, however, if the first leg is anything to go by. Schmidt faced off against Simeone and his assistant German Burgos during a heated moment in the second half in Germany, and there are likely to be fireworks in Madrid, especially as tensions mount and decisions go against their teams.

When the draw was initially made, I was kind of relieved. It could have been a lot worse; Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea were all potential opponents, as were Porto.

Considering some of the humiliations suffered over the past few seasons, not least last season’s 0-4 first leg home humbling by PSG, I just wanted the tie to still be alive for the second leg. Instead of that, Leverkusen find themselves in a strong position, and with a very real chance of progressing against an out of form opponent.

The second half of the season - the ruckrunde - should be very interesting! Leverkusen’s next fixture is home to Borussia Dortmund on 31st January.

Jake White is fast becoming one of Bracknell’s most important players with his versatility proving vital for manager Keith Penicott-Bowen this season.

The full-back, winger, central defender and striker is four appearances off joining Robins 100 club having made his debut in November 2011 against Abingdon Town and looks set to add significantly to that tally after establishing himself as a first team regular this season.

Now, as well as scoring important last minute goals, Jake is becoming familiar with last-ditch challenges at the other end of the pitch.

Previous Clubs: Woodley Saints, Woodley Hammers

Date of Birth: 22/05/1993 Position: Defender

Club supported: Manchester United

Best ground played at: Best ground ive played at has to be the Madejski Stadium which is the home of Reading Football Club.

Best game played in and why?: The best game I’ve played in has to be the 2-1 victory over Maidenhead United Reserves last season. It was a very tight match which both teams had chances to win it but I scored a 93rd minute winner to send us through to Bracknells first cup final in years.

Ambitions for the season: Ambitions this season have to be, better our 13th place last season and hopefully finish in the top 10 for the first time.

We spoke to Bowes about Jakes emergence as a bit of an all-rounder this season.

Jake’s a bit versatile isn’t he! How did you set on him as a centre back?KPB: Firstly as Full Back, I have known lots of potential wide pacey attackers for instance Ashley Cole, Marcelo, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia making the transition to full back. But Jake is also a good header of the ball in defensive play, so for sure I had no doubts of him adapting and playing Centre Back. How’s he taken it? He still likes to get forward (he made several runs against Highmoor) KPB: For me the modern game mainly revolves around good technique, speed and creative minds. So if the moment is right the correct communications are made to cover,

JAKE WHITEJake White, Bracknell’s utility player

34

Page 35: Bracknell Town vs. Ardley United - 17/03/15

ALL-ROUNDERthen for sure Jake can transition forwards to create the team into more of an attacking force. Do you see it as a natural position for him? Or is it just helpful having players that are comfortable in several positions?KPB: Jake has shown great willingness to adapt and change his mind-set to different roles within the team. When playing as a defender Jake shows good acumen at reading the game and is able to use his pace to either intercept passes before reaching opposition attackers or indeed catch-up and touch the ball away from breaking attackers.

We also spoke to Jake ahead of tonight’s game.

You’ve played in a number of positions this season for the team, how are you finding it? Do you feel any pressure when playing somewhere new? JW: Of course I feel a bit of pressure as it takes some getting used to a new position but knowing who I’m playing alongside eases that pressure as I have confidence in my team mates.

You have impressed at centre back in the last few games. Keith said to us: “Jake has shown great willingness to adapt and change his mind-set to different roles within the team”. How have you found your latest position? JW: Adapting to any position at any level of football is hard but the older you get the more knowledge of the game you learn so yeah it hasn’t been too difficult, it has helped with the partners that I have had as they are all very expierenced. You started at the club as a full-back but were converted to a striker. What do you think is your best position? JW: Personally I don’t know what my best position is. I leave that up to the manager. Wherever I play I will always give 100% in what I do. What’s better, a great strike or a last ditch goal saving tackle? JW: Haha tricky question but if you score what turns out to be the winning goal or the match winner it is a great feeling but also if you deprive the opposition from scoring. Taylor, Michael or Andre, who’s been your favourite centre-back partner? JW: Somehow I knew this question was going to come up. I don’t think it is fair to answer this one! We saw you and Michael both get forward against Highmoor, does that just happen naturally or is it a gameplan? Will Mikey ever score? JW: I played as a forward for 14 years and it is natural for me to try and push up as much as possible if we get the nod to.

We are all rooting him to score! 35
