Segregation – The Challenge

• High segregation quality is a key success factor

• Industry standards seek a < 5% contamination rate

• Home Patient & NZ Hospitals are achieving targets.

• Segregation quality in AU is sound – but adhoc (pictures)

Site champions, program awareness and training are

key factors in successful segregation

Baxter Your Partner in Sustainability

“Baxter is an example of a company that has gone beyond Industrial Ecology (IE) in

that they have a solution for their in house plastic and cardboard waste. They have

now embraced Product Stewardship with a take back scheme that is already

involving the major hospitals in Australia and as we heard going to their home

patients. As I said this has not been done anywhere else in the world and a key part

of the reason this company is flourishing as an Australian Manufacturer in a world

market.” NSW EPA

“This is terrific news and a great outcome for the health system as well as the

environment” School Of Medicine, University of Tasmania

“We are enthusiastic and looking forward to this fantastic venture” Burnie PD Unit

“It is gratifying to see the goodwill shown towards this project and the environmental

spinoffs are clearly there” Royal Hobart Hospital
