Keyed Different• Brady padlocks come “keyed different” when

purchased from stock. This means that the key forone lock should not open another. Brady padlocksuse 5- or 6-pin cylinders. Moreover, both cylindersand keys are precision-machined to exacting standards. This enables us to offer a greater numberof unique keys than other locks with the same number of pins, making it highly unlikely that youwill ever receive a duplicate lock.

• To guarantee that each lock is different, we can chartyour locks, ensuring that each Brady padlock youreceive is different from the others (see below).

Keyed Alike• When keyed alike, all locks in a set can be opened

with the same key. This option is beneficial whenmultiple locks are assigned to a single employee.Remember, however, that under OSHA regulationsno employee should be able to open a lock appliedby someone else. Therefore, keyed alike locks fromthe same set should never be distributed to multipleemployees.

Master Keyed• A master key can be used to open multiple locks

that are keyed differently. This allows supervisors toeasily remove a lock in the event of an emergency.In order for employees to retain exclusive control,master keys should be kept in a secure location thatis accessible only to management.

Key Charting• Brady can track or “chart” your key codes upon

request in order to simplify ordering of replacementlocks and to avoid duplicates when orderingadditional locks. There is no extra charge for charting.

LOCKOUT DEVICES MUST:

• Be provided by the employer

• Be standardized by size, shape or color

• Be distinguishable from locks used forother purposes. Lockout locks should onlybe used for lockout!

• Identify the individual who applied the lock(both tags and lock labels are acceptablefor this purpose)

• Be capable of withstanding the usage envi-ronment and must be strong enough toprevent removal except by using excessiveforce with special tools, such as boltcutters.

Most importantly, whenever lockout devicesare applied, they must remain under theexclusive control of the individual whoattached them. No employee should be ableto open a lock attached by someone else.
