Welcome!
Welcome to Brampton Update for June.
You will see residents have been busy
this month in the garden, and with
activities they have requested. We have
enjoyed many ‘Magic Moments’
together! You are very welcome to any of
the events scheduled at Brampton View
coming up in June and beyond.
We would welcome prizes and bottles for the
Armed Forces Day raffle, raising money for
Help for Heroes. Thank you.

Brampton’s Green Fingers Our new greenhouse has been well used and is
currently full of Marigolds, Beans and Sunflowers. All
have been planted by residents from seed, most of
which have progressed into seedlings in our warm,
damp greenhouse.
Sunflowers are now planted out in the raised bed in the
courtyard garden and also in a tub next to the
residential lounge.
Tomatoes and bedding plants are just waiting for a few
drier days so residents can carry on with the planting.
Please feel free to water our plants and pots with your
relatives or friends should you wish. There is a watering
can available in the residential lounge and in Valley’s
courtyard.

Blind Taste Test
Our “Who’s Best: Blind Taste Test” was a great
success this month. Residents compared the
look and taste of a range of products that
included quiche, crisps, sausage rolls, pork pie,
choc chip biscuits and hot cross buns. Each
resident gave the item a score but did not know
which shop the product came from.
The results were clear. Residents scored Marks
and Spencer 57 points and Aldi scored 82 points!

Connie has two sons, Bruce and Lionel, who
along with their wives and children, flew in
from USA and Canada for the week to
celebrate this auspicious occasion. Connie
was born in 1912 in Pattishall where she
grew up and lived till she moved to
Brampton View Care Home.
Connie received a card from the Queen
saying “Congratulations on your splendid
achievement of reaching 105!”
Residents at Brampton View, along with staff
and friends, would like to add their own
good wishes to Connie on her special day.
105th Birthday Celebrations! Champagne was flowing as residents, friends and staff gathered to celebrate with Connie and her family as she turned 105 last week.

VE Day Party stirs memories of
Northampton’s Market Square celebrations
in 1945
Union flags and tin hats were the feature of the day at Brampton View for the VE Day celebrations last week.
Residents and guests sang along to
favourite songs of the era and enjoyed
clips of The Andrew’s Sisters performing.
Heather Byrne (pictured) and friends
were inspired to give their own
rendition!
Daphne Chown, a resident at Brampton View,
recalled her own memories of the celebrations
in Northampton’s Market Square in 1945 where
Daphne and her then Fiancé (and now husband) Norman, danced into the early hours.
Greta Kench recalled how she and her
mother, who ran the Albion pub on
Regent’s Square, were rushed off their
feet and had no time to party
themselves.
Residents all agreed that although it
was a time for celebrations, it was
tinged with sadness at the loss of
friends and loved ones.

Causing a stir… Photos chosen by Andrew Buckby
The fields surrounding Brampton View and the Brampton Valley Way that runs past the home, have been particularly busy these last few weeks due to the new (and very cute!) arrival.
The two Welsh Cobs have been joined by a handsome black and white foal. Rather shaky on his legs initially, he is a charming attraction to walkers, residents, friends and staff
who all enjoy watching his progress.

June Events and Activities
You asked, we did!
Pamper Day- Residents requested a pamper day with face masks and hand care. The resulting faces during the pamper day session were so hilarious that we were banned from taking any photographs!
Baking – Residents asked for more opportunities for baking, and chose recipes for Lemon Cheesecake and Choc Chip Cookies. All were able to join in with mixing and choosing ingredients. Needless to say, they were very delicious and popular with all residents.
Gardening – The greenhouse is filling up! Sunflowers are growing well, as are the many Marigolds that residents have grown from seed. Chelsea Flower Show is a popular time of year and residents requested planting and gardening so we are looking forward to “Plant a Tub” activity using the plants grown in the greenhouse.
Blind Tasting – What’s better, M&S or Aldi? -This was requested by residents as food tasting and testing is always popular with an element of all sharing their views. Please see page 4 for the outcome.
Cheese and Wine Tasting – International Wine Tasting Day was the catalyst for residents requesting a cheese and wine tasting session. The cheese proved more popular that the wine and all those who joined in requested a repeat performance in all things cheesy!
Please share your ideas and wishes at our
Residents’ Activity Meeting on Friday 9th June 2.30pm

Resident Spotlight
This month’s spotlight is on…….
Harry Hull
Where did you grow up?
Northampton, near Abington Park.
What is your fondest memory?
I have several – all good memories. We were short
of cash in my family but never short of love and
affection. My best memories are of my family – I had
two brothers and a sister as well as lovely parents.
What is one thing you are really good at?
Fishing! I was a big fisherman until I went into the
RAF.
What is your favourite season and why?
Early Autumn because of the colours on the trees.
A piece of advice to share…
Take note of people who have experience and
knowledge. If you have good parents you are half
way there.
Feedback Thank you for the helpful feedback this past month. We
love hearing from you all. Any questions, comments or
concerns, please drop us a note at reception or by post.
Thank you!
Many thanks,
Brampton View staff

Brampton Book Club
recommends…
Daphne Chown provides us with the book review this month:
‘Sharp through the Hawthorne’ by Sybil Marshall “This is a village story where the rector is very strict and tries to blacklist a young
couple who live together but are not married. The main characters are strong and well
drawn. The author creates the story well and it is reminiscent of old villages and the
insular strong communities that have conflicting views. It reflects the changes modern
life has had on villages.”

Manager’s Note
Hello,
Welcome to the June edition of the Brampton Update.
Our Family Fun Day was a little damp, so we bought the event inside.
Residents were not deterred and the burgers were still a hit!
Please do complete your Resident Satisfaction Questionnaire as we want to
ensure we continue to improve our care and our home.
As I write this, we have heard that brighterkind has won the award for
“Residential Care Provider of the Year” at the Health Investor awards. I
would like to thank all our staff who have worked so hard to achieve this.
As ever, my door is always open for residents or relatives and I hope to see
you at Brampton View soon.
Kind regards,
Andrea Goodall
PS: We would be very grateful for any items for raffle prizes. Thank you
