Ericsson’s association with the Indian telecom industry Ericsson dates back to the early years of the 20th Century, around 110 years back when it supplied its first product to India - manual switchboards to the Government in 1903. Since then Ericsson has powered virtually every facet of telecommunications in India, right from handsets to entire networks. Ericsson India has over 15000 resources and offices across 25 locations and is leveraging on its combined strength by setting up the manufacturing unit in India, the Global Services organization and state of art Research & Development facilities.
Taking into account the business opportunity present in the country, Ericsson has strengthened its focus on the Indian market and is also expanding its local manufacturing base. Ericsson is transferring technologies to India as a part of its localization strategies. From developing AXE switching in nineties to becoming the first multinational company to start manufacturing of GSM Radio Base Station (RBS) series at its facility in Kukas, Rajasthan, Ericsson has demonstrated its long term commitment towards India. Over the years, the investments have increased in its factory situated at Jaipur. It has also developed a special series of RBS called the 6000 series that is best suited for the GSM, 3G and LTE deployments in the country. In 2012, Ericsson India has expanded its existing manufacturing capacity by adding another SMT line.
As communication changes the way we live and work and Ericsson is playing a key role in this evolution. Using innovation to empower people, business and society, the mobile broadband leader is working towards a Networked Society, in which everything that can benefit from a connection will have one.
