AT A GLANCE

Objective• To create a bespoke packaging solution to depict how the Smugglers Series honours the tradition of the illicit whisky trade that operated from The Isle of Arran and up the River Clyde to Glasgow, Scotland. Each new release is ‘smuggled’ in unique packaging reminiscent of the hiding places used in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Process• Smuggler’s Vol. 1 uses a rigid box structural design which mimics that of a hard back book, opened to reveal ‘faux’ pages concealing the illicit bottle of whisky hidden within.

Product Characteristics• Rigid, covered presentation style box designed to hold 70/75cl bottle • Inner of box cut from double wall corrugate built up of 16 layers to create and replicate a cut out page effect within the book• Concealed magnets appropriately positioned in order to give an authentic ‘book opening’ experience to the customer• Main box and outer book cut from 1750 micron recycled grey board and covered in premium, uncoated covering paper, litho printed in 4 process colours to create an aged paper effect• Internal page inside the front

OutcomeSmuggler’s Vol. 1 has been extremely successful for The Arran Distillers with all packs selling out very quickly. The project was delivered on time and within budget as well as meeting the original brief of ‘authenticity’.
