ETAL BRAZING ALLOYS

Etal brazing products are made from strictly controlled alloyed metals to ensure consistent metallurgical properties such as melting point, flow characteristics and wicking, to help ensure quality joints, time after time. This family of brazing alloys is commonly classified into two main groups: copper-phosphorus brazing alloys with no or low silver content (known as “low-silver alloys” or “phos-copper alloys”, and high silver content alloys (known as “high silver alloys”).

Low-silver alloys are mainly used in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries for brazing copper pipes. High silver alloys have a wider industrial use, for example carbon pipe, stainless steel pipe, joining dissimilar metals, and brazing tungsten carbide inserts onto high speed steel tool holders.

All our products are manufactured according to international standard AWS A5.8 in terms of chemical compositions, shapes and dimensions and tolerances.

The phosphorous content acts as a de-oxidant and lowers the alloy melting temperatures, reducing or eliminating the need for an external flux.

ETAL RAPID (ES-0F)

Etal Rapid is a low melting point highly fluid alloy. It is an economical alternative to silver bearing phos-cooper alloys.

Etal Rapid’s melting temperature is 1190°F-1280°F (643°C to 693°C) below those of identical silver content alloys, because of its higher phosphorous content.

ETAL RAPID is recommended for brazing copper or brass in thin sheets.

This welding is suggested for the union of pieces that are subjected to mechanical stress or elevated temperatures.

They provide the following benefits:

• Vibration and mechanical stress resistant joints.

• Joining ferrous and nonferrous materials, excellent whetting.

• General use in all industries.

At Etal we manufacture “high silver alloys” from 20% to 56% Ag in standard and custom sizes to suit your needs.

These alloys are made from raw metal stock to ensure metallurgical properties such as melting point, flow characteristics and wicking, to help ensure quality joints.

These brazing alloys are commonly classified into two main groups: copper-phosphorus brazing alloys with no or low silver content (known as “low-silver alloys” or “phos-copper alloys”, and high silver content alloys (known as “high silver alloys”).

Low-silver alloys are mainly used in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries for brazing copper pipes. High silver alloys have a wider industrial use, for example carbon pipe, stainless steel pipe, joining dissimilar metals, and brazing tungsten carbide inserts onto high speed steel tool holders.

All our brazing alloys are manufacturedin accordance with AWS A5.8 interms of chemical compositions, shapes, dimensions and tolerances.

GROUP II: HIGH SILVER CONTENT ALLOYS, WITH CADMIUM

High silver content alloys containing Cadmium offer an excellent combination of melting range, flow characteristics and mechanical properties.

High Silver Content alloys with Cadmium can be used to join most ferrous and nonferrous metals, excluding aluminum and magnesium.

With exceptional mechanical properties, often used in the repair of gears, pulleys and other machine elements.

Note:

DANGER! This alloy contains cadmium, and the fumes formed upon heating are toxic. Special precautions must be followed. Refer to AWS A5.8 paragraph 18.4.

Uses and Features:

High Silver brazing alloys containing cadmium find their main application in the welding of low carbon steels and stainless steels as well as virtually all nonferrous metals except aluminum and magnesium due to their high propensity to oxidation.

We offer bare rods without flux, as well as flux coated rods in standard sizes.

The method of applying these alloys is via oxy-acetylene, butane, propane, or natural gas.

The characteristics of the welded joints vary depending on the silver and cadmium content.

As a general rule, the higher content of these elements, and others such as manganese, tin and nickel, the stronger the resulting union.

Please take into account that all these alloys contain cadmium, and evaluate any health risks from fumes produced during the application of these alloys, adequate ventilation is a requirement.

Description and Features:

Type

P-25D (BAg-27) Economical substitution for P-30, with lower silver content. Can be used to weld steel, stainless steel, copper, copper alloys, inconels and combinations of these metals.

P-30(BAg-2a) More economical than the P-35 alloy, as it contains 5% less silver but with similar properties.

P-35(BAg-2)An excellent combination of performance and economy. With its high content of cadmium and silver, this alloy, provides strength equal to or better than many substrates. Excellent fluidity means the P-35 can easily penetrate narrow joints and complicated geometries.

P-45 (BAg-1)

The high silver content of these alloys gives them low melting temperatures, great fluidity, and high corrosion resistance. They are used when the union will be subjected to the most extreme environmental conditions: high temperature variations, highly alkaline solutions, high humidity and saline environments.

P-50 (BAg-1a) y P-50N (BAg-3)

The high silver content of these alloys gives them the lowest melting temperatures, greatest fluidity, and high corrosion resistance. They are used in the most extreme working conditions: high temperatures, highly alkaline solutions and high humidity and salinity enviromments.

GROUP III: HIGH SILVER ALLOYS CADMIUM FREE

These alloys are used in applications where cadmium is not tolerated because of environmental and health risks. Readily joins ferrous or non ferrous materials in either manual brazing operations or in brazing ovens.

Often used in manufacturing heat exchangers, reactors, pipes and general connections.

Frequently used for welding steel, copper and brass. The low silver content makes it an economical choice if lower ductility is acceptable.

Very good flow characteristics and wettability of the board. It offers a wider temperature range than their counterparts with cadmium. Widely used in the chemical industry.

An economical choice for general use; versatile in all types of industries.

An alloy with good flow characteristics. The recommended substitute for the cadmium alloys BAg-2 and BAg-2a.

Has one of the lowest melting points and a narrow melting range; hence good flow cha-racteristics. The silver and tin content provides good resistance to corrosion.

Low melting point brazing alloy. The tin content is slightly higher than the P-40T alloy, improving mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Finds its main application in the electrical industry and in manufacturing food processing equipment. It has great ability to penetrate intricate joints.

Has a fairly low melting point (699 °C), which makes it a useful alloy for jobs in high volume production. A good alternative for brazing tungsten carbide inserts.

Alloy is very fluid, so it can be brazed with virtually all types of joints. Can be used interchangeably in the brazing of stainless steel and nickel base alloys, and all copper alloys .

Wide application in food processing equipment industry. Resistant to acid or alkaline substances.

Material well suited for welding tungsten carbide inserts when cadmium is not desirable. The nickel content helps to provide similar properties.

High in silver and tin, this alloy is the preferred choice for demanding applications; excellent corrosion and fatigue resistance makes P-355 an outstanding choice for brazing pipe, pressure vessels, and where joints are subject to corrosive environ-ments. Also provides a natural silver finish for jewelry and luxury accessories.
