JERRY & SERGEANT PAUL FRUSCIAge: 3.5 years

Named in honor of: NYC Police Officer John “Jerry” Scarangella

How does Jerry help you? He’s always ready to go to work with a smile on his face. That helps us stay motivated.

What is it like being stationed at Grand Central? We get to see and meet lots of interesting people. Recently, Jerry got a pat on the head and a word of encouragement from Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Favorite toy: The kong! Sometimes we stuff it with treats, but we do try to limit the junk food. Jerry is a professional, after all!

BUCK & OFFICER JOSEPH TERRACCIANOAge: 6 years

Named in honor of: Marine Lance Corporal Gregory T. Buckley of Oceanside, NY

What is it like being stationed at Grand Central? During training, Buck had to overcome a lot of environmental challenges including loud noises, crowds of people, riding on elevators and escalators, and heights.

Favorite thing to do: Buck enjoys relaxing in bed, going for walks, and playing fetch in the park.

Favorite toy: A tug toy, which he gets for sniffing out hidden explosives.

PATTY & OFFICER ROBERT BAILEAge: 8 years

Named in honor of: Yonkers Firefighter Patrick Joyce

What’s he like at work? Patty is known to draw a crowd when people pet him due to his very playful demeanor.

Favorite thing to do: He loves to wait in the front yard and greet the kids getting off the school bus.

How does Patty assist you? Without impeding train traffic, K-9s can search areas and check unattended bags 10X faster than an officer.

Favorite toy: A rubber ball attached to a rope.

ARTIE & OFFICER FRED WEEKSAge: 3.5 years

Named in honor of: Larchmont Police Officer Arthur DeMatte

Special skills: In 2015, Artie placed 2nd in USPCA Region #7 Explosive Detection Trials.

How does Artie help you? He is a Belgian Malinois, which is a highly trainable breed that thrives on advanced obedience, trick, and agility training. They are famous for being so “in tune” with their handlers that they can literally stay one step ahead.

Favorite toy: Artie’s favorite toy is a half-inflated basketball; he will run around the yard with it for hours.

DID YOU KNOW? K-9s are named in honor of fallen military service members, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.

THE 2017 GRAND CENTRAL SPECIAL OFFERS BOOK

MARBLE AND TERRAZZO FLOOR REPAIRMore than 45,000 square feet of Tennessee pink marble and 67,000 square feet of terrazzo have withstood the scuffling of millions of feet for 104 years. In an effort to minimize disruption to visitors and commuters, Metro-North has been replacing cracked tiles and pouring new terrazzo at a rate of 5% of the floor’s surface area each year since 2007.

To acquire an identical match to the Tennessee pink marble, one of the original quarries was reopened to cut indistinguishable tiles. You can try looking for the shiny new sections of the floor, but you won’t find them! The work of the master stone masons not only helps prevent future cracking but also matches the historic floor perfectly.

EAST SIDE ACCESS PROJECTWonder why part of the Lower Level Dining Concourse is closed?

The MTA is bringing Long Island Rail Road commuters to GCT! They are working to construct stairways and escalators that will connect Grand Central’s Lower Level to the 10-block-long, 350,000-square-foot LIRR concourse and eight-track train terminal being built beneath Grand Central.

Other significant work will take place in the historic Biltmore Room later this year, where escalators and an elevator will be installed to take passengers directly to and from the LIRR Concourse. By connecting newly mined tunnels in Manhattan and Queens and existing tunnels under the East River, the East Side Access project will increase the LIRR’s capacity into Manhattan, and dramatically shorten travel time for Long Island and Queens commuters traveling to the east side of Manhattan.

It’s no surprise that at 104 years old Grand Central needs a little TLC. We are constantly working to improve this

historic building, our accessibility, and our visitors’ experiences.

BEHIND the BARRICADES

LED LIGHTING ON PERSHING SQUARE VIADUCT Since late December, the Pershing Square viaduct in front of Grand Central Terminal has been brilliantly illuminated with color-changing LED lighting each night. The lighting, which further enhances the grandeur of Grand Central’s façade, will serve as a beacon to pedestrians anywhere along 42nd Street to find their way to the Terminal. Starting a new tradition, the lights will change color to recognize various occasions and holidays throughout the year.

Now it’s even easier to plan a getaway that takes you from your seat on Metro-North to the open road with Metro-North’s Ride2Drive™ program. Zipcars are available at nine Metro-North stations in the Hudson Valley so passengers can conveniently take a Zipcar from the station and travel to various destinations throughout the region.

A total of 14 Zipcars are now available including a Honda Civic, a Jeep Renegade, and a Honda CR-V. The vehicles are parked at dedicated, clearly marked spaces at station lots, providing customers with the ease and simplicity of stepping off the train, hopping into a Zipcar, and continuing on to destinations beyond the station. Each Zipcar reservation includes

gas, insurance, maintenance, and 180 miles of driving per day.

Zipcars are now available at the following stations:

Harlem Line: North White Plains and Woodlawn

Hudson Line: Poughkeepsie and Beacon

New Haven Line: Port Chester, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Pelham, and Mount Vernon East
