(CabrilloCollege,Aptos,CA)OnSeptember28th,2013,from10am-4pm,200SantaCruzCountywomenwillgatherforaforumcalledBreakingtheGlassBallotthatwill
providetheinformation,tools,andconnectionswomenneedtorunforlocalboards,commissionsandelectedpositions.Currently,SantaCruzCountyhasnowomenelectedrepresentativesonitsboardofsupervisorsoranyfemalestaterepresentativesinthelegislature.Thiseventaimstoencourageandequiplocalwomenwhohaveaninterestineitherrunningforoffice--orsimplysupportingwomencandidates.TheeventwillbeheldatTheCabrilloCollegeHorticultureCenter.Registrationopensat9:00amandconcludeswithanetworkingreception.BreakingtheGlassBallotwillincludepaneldiscussionsandbreakoutsfeaturinglocalandregionalpoliticians,appointees,campaignmanagers,fundraisingexpertsandpoliticalactiongroups.Thebreakoutsessionswillinvolvenutsandboltstrainingoncampaignbasics,strategicpositioning,fundraising,andorganizing.Themorningwillbeginwithakeynoteaddressfromnotedpoliticalstrategist,MaryHughes,whohasrunsuccessfulcampaignsforCongresswomanAnnaEschooandformerStateSenatorJoeSimitian.SheisalsothefounderofClosetheGapCalifornia,anorganizationaimedatgettingmorewomentorunforthestatelegislature.MaryHughes,founderofClosetheGapCArecognizestheopportunityprovidedbyalackofwomeninoffice.Weallloseoutwhenhalfofthetalentremainsonthesidelines.Californianeedsthepolicyknow-howandtheleadershipskillsthatwomenoffer.ImthrilledtobepartofthislocalefforttogetwomenelectedandonboardsandcommissionsinSantaCruzCounty.Othersessionpresentersinclude:KathyBisbee,formercampaignmanagerHilaryBryant,SantaCruzMayorKarinaCervantez,WatsonvilleCityCouncil
