The DMH Breast Center DMH Mission - To improve the health of the people of Central Illinois

As part of our comprehensive approach to treat people with cancer, Decatur Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Institute features the DMH Breast Center.

What do I do now that I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer?

You are receiving care from a Commission on Cancer Accredited Program ensuring that key elements of quality cancer care are provided to each person treated within this cancer program.

The pathology report generated from tissue testing will be used as a guide for all your physicians to develop a treatment plan for your cancer. Tissue testing will show unique characteristics of your individual tumor. Genetic testing is not part of the pathology report but may be recommended by your physician. Inherited cases of breast cancer are likely associated with abnormal genes. Two of the most common are the abnormal version of BRCA1 (Breast Cancer Gene 1) and BRCA 2 (Breast Cancer Gene 2).

Communication among all of the experts who participate in the care of each woman with breast cancer is very important. Our team meets weekly to share information and discuss pre-treatment planning and treatment options for each patient.

Patients are provided a copy of their survivorship care plan and are encouraged to share with their primary care physician and other specialists. For more information CALL 217-876-4377.
