*Several state boards of licensure require continuing education for renewal of licensure. Acceptance by a state boardof licensure does not guarantee that a continuing education program meets NAECB’s criteria. The state board oflicensure MUST be accredited or approved by one of the NAECB recognized provider(s) for an activity to be consideredfor NAECB renewal of certication and the recognized provider must be listed on the Summary Form, not the stateboard of licensure, when the activity is reported.

Goals and ObjectivesTThe National Asthma Educator Certication Board will develop and implement qualications/standards, as well as acertication examination for Asthma Educators on a national level. Outcome studies to evaluate the effectiveness ofeducation by a Certied Asthma Educator ( AE-C®) will be performed to assess the benet of this process and to helpguide the re-certication process.

The NAECB process follows the successful models and standardsof the Canadian Network for Asthma Care and its CertiedAsthma Educator (CAE); the National Certication Board ofDiabeDiabetes Educators and its Certied Diabetes Educator (CDE);The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA),Standards for Certication Programs and the NationalOrganization for Competence Assurance (NOCA).
