Subject Details English The children will enjoy the animated tale The Saga of Biorn which tells the tale of an aging Viking warrior who is looking for a final honourable battle to help him reach Valhalla, the mythical home of the Viking gods. The children will then plan and write a short story based on this saga. Maths The children will learn to use and convert units of measure for length, mass and capacity. They will also learn to measure and calculate perimeter and area. They will continue to develop their skills to read the time and to read and interpret timetables. They will also continue to develop their recall of multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12. History Vikings The children will discover when the Vikings arrived in England and where they came from. They will consider the difference between invasion and settlement and find out about the Viking raid on the monastery of Lindisfarne. They will investigate Viking ships and Viking trade with other countries. A special Viking visitor to our class will spend a day in role bringing Viking history to life. Art and Design Watercolour The children will create a decorative front cover for their sketchbook using pen and watercolour techniques. Wellbeing and PSHE

Fair TradeThe children will develop their understanding of Fair Trade and take part in a range of activities to celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight

Physical Education Dance (Indoors) and Gymnastics (Indoors)Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school every week and all items are clearly marked with their name.PE lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday

Religious Education Caring for OthersThe children will focus mainly on Christianity and Sikhism to find out how people care for others. They will spend a morning as guests at a local Sikh temple and they will also take part in an information session with a visitor from the Salvation Army.

Languages FrenchThe children will learn how to talk about their school subjects and find out similarities and differences between the French and British school day.

Music The children are continuing to enjoy brass instrument lessons with a music specialist every week. Later in the year they will have the exciting opportunity to take part in performances at the Lowry Theatre and the Bridgewater Hall.
