New Deans and Directors Workshop, December 2009 A 2-day workshop that brings together recently appointed administrators of many types from land-grant universities and USDA/NIFA. Presentations and discussions focus on leadership and administrative philosophies and skills as well as structure and function of the total Land-Grant University/NIFA system.

• Continued articulation with community colleges in close proximity to R&E Centers out in the state. Supported a competitive undergraduate research internship program for R&E Centers located off campus

• Published the Field Days Bulletin. The number of projects included in the bulletin forms the basis for the annual report to the Joint Interim Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources Committee of the Wyoming Legislature. Each report is indexed according to which PARP objective are addressed

• Funded two newly hired faculty members to continue a post-fire rehabilitation project on the Rogers Research Site

• Accepted the PREC Advisory Board’s recommendation to fund one of two grants submitted to the Northwest Applied Research Grant Program

• Administered the Global Perspectives Competitive Grants Program (fall and spring semester) o Funded through an endowment, up to six $4,000 awards are available per semester

• Administered the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station Competitive Grants Program o Funded primarily through formula grants received from NIFA, awarded $257,648 in

competitive grants to support 3 projects that addressed the Production Agriculture Research Priorities document

• Funded a project on how to respond to crop lose due to significant hail damage using the Rapid Response Agricultural Research Fund

• Coordinated with UW Extension to provide information on the college’s research activities for the USDA Annual Accomplishment Report and Plan of Work

• Rewarded a faculty author and their home department $1,000 each plus a student $750 for writing the top Reflections papers in their respective categories.

• Organized the Powell R&E Center field day • Worked with UW Information and Technology to produce a more useful administrative

report from the annual reporting system for faculty of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

• Hosted the R&E Center Annual Planning Conference, which included a workshop on Managing Change plus a banquet where the AES Researcher Awards and Reflections Awards were presented. Deployed a Change Management Team to assist with decision making for the WAES system.

• Developed the Wyoming State Seed Lab’s budget and worked with the manager on the report to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture

• Continued a collaborative project with UW Libraries to digitize the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station Bulletins

• Continued to cultivate and steward a relationship with Silver Spur Ranches o Placed 3 undergraduate interns

• Contributed to the quarterly edition of AgNews • Published online monthly issues of Agademics 2014 – 2015 • Helped the college’s major gift officer and leaders of the Mountain States Lamb Cooperative

establish an endowment to fund sheep research known as the Western Sheep Industry Research Initiative. An initial investment of $150,000 in Mountain States Lamb Cooperative Class D shares was gifted to the UW Foundation. As holders of these shares, we are guaranteed to receive 6% returns per year for eight years.

• Revised the Wyoming Production Agriculture Research Priorities (PARP) based on input from listening sessions. Special consideration is given to WAES competitive grant proposals that address PARP. Researchers also have a document to cite when preparing grant proposals that require application of relevant research

• Entered into a cooperative research arrangement the Rangeland Resources Research Unit to create a partnership with WAES to provide initial funding to support research efforts in the Thunder Basin of Wyoming
