It is our pleasure to personally invite you to the 8th annual Sprenger

Cattle Co. “Cattle with a Purpose Beyond Performance” Bull Sale.

We are very excited about our offering this year. This is the largest

selection of bulls that we have ever offered. We really enjoy the production

and marketing of quality seedstock and feel that we have made some major

advancements this year. All of our bulls are raised in a 100% forage diet. Our

system is a low input commercial type system that requires our cattle to work

for themselves all year long grazing on native range and crop residue. We

refuse to sell any seedstock that has ever received any special treatment.

Weather from antibiotics to helping mother up. If we put our hands on them

for any special reason they get cut. It is our firm belief that all of our bulls will

meet or exceed your expectations.

Please keep us in mind this upcoming bull buying season and please

mark your calendrers for the 1st of November when we will have 25, 18

month old bulls for you to choose from. You will find that many of these bulls

are half brothers or better and very similar in type and kind between the sire

groups

Sale Informaion:

Sale Time: We will begin November 1st 2014 at 1:00 P.M. MNT. At

the Sprenger Ranch headquarters.

Directions: 3 Miles west of Sidney on Hwy 30, turn South onto

NE-19S 1 mile. Turn west onto Rd 20 and travel 10.5 miles

to the ranch headquarters. The ranch is at the intersection of

Rd 20 and Rd 87.

Inspection of Cattle: All bulls can be viewed at the ranch. Please

call to set up an appointment. All sale animals will be avail-

able for preview at the sale location starting on the 30th of

October

Health: All bulls will already have passed a fertility test and bulls

requiring Trich testing will be tested free before delivery

Delivery: All bulls will be delivered free of charge. Delivery will

begin the second week of November

Possession: Bulls purchased in state may be taken home after the

sale. All bulls that must cross state boundaries will be trich

tested and delivered as soon as possible. The full purchase

price will be paid the day of the sale unless prior arrange-

ments have been made.

Guarantee: We choose to handle situations on a case by case basis.

If something should happen to one of our bulls we will do

everything possible to make it right. If for some reason you

are not happy with your purchase, again we will do every-

thing we can do to make things right.

Cattle with a Purpose beyond Performance Sprenger Cattle Co is an Angus seedstock operation owned

and operated by Brian and Kari Sprenger. Our home is in the high

plains region of western Nebraska near Sidney. Our cows are managed

in a lower input environment often alongside our commercial cows.

The cows are expected to graze year round on native range and or

crop residue. The only supplement they receive besides mineral is in

the form of protein at necessary times in the year. The cows and heif-

ers are expected to deliver a calf unassisted beginning in May and

wean a quality calf, without creep feed, in late November or early De-

cember.

We do not chase numbers, and we do not chase size. We have

sought out cattle that poses a moderate frame with adequate milk,

adequate growth and adequate performance. Due to our desire to

maintain a cow herd with these attributes we have chosen to not sub-

scribe to the bull of the month club. Instead, we have identified a se-

lect group of cows within our herd that we are using sons out of to

propagate the form that works in our environment. We have also AI’d

some of our cows to bulls out of like minded programs.

The Maternal Side of the Equation

The goals of our programs have been set in stone for quite

some time. We believe that we must maintain our focus on the Mater-

nal Traits in our cow herd as they are the Heart and Soul of the ranch.

To this, we feel that there are more traits to consider than milk EPD’s

when talking about Maternal Traits. Traits such as fertility, calving

ease, fleshing ability with minimal supplementation, sound feet and

legs, disposition, maternal instinct at calving and adequate milk pro-

duction. All of these traits lend themselves to cow longevity which is a

key component to reducing our cost of inputs. We feel that the race

for increased performance in both growth and carcass traits has ad-

versely affected these conveniences that so many have taken for

granted.

Auction Information

Bulls will be auctioned off in a cowboy auction format. This type of auc-

tion allows the bidders to see who they are bidding against. The auction

will begin at 1:00 P.M. MNT. And progress in sale order through the cata-

log. Starting bid on all bulls is $2700.

None of the bulls have been registered. However, if for some reason you

need registration papers on a bull that you buy we will provide it. A few

bulls are not eligible for registration and are listed as commercial in the

catalog.

EPD’s are provided by averages from the Sire and Dam. They are not pro-

vided by the American Angus Association.

Lunch will be served at Noon.

Information Explanation

Wean% is figured on the percent of body weight the cow weaned relative

to her own weight

Calving ease. All of the bulls have been ranked on a score of 1 to 5. Heif-

er bulls will have a score from 3 to 5. Bulls that have a 3 should only be

used on larger framed heifers. Bulls with a score from 1 to 2 should only

be used on cows.

Average Daily Gain number. The bulls were weighed on the 26th of June

and again on the 27th of September. Their ADG is based off of the

pounds the individual gained over this time period.

Disposition. All of the bulls are given an individual disposition score.

Again, they are ranked 1 to 5 with 5 being the best. However, I encour-

age you to walk through the bulls yourself to make your own judgment.

Udder. We give all of our cows an udder score at the time of the calves

birth. We grade them from 1 to 5 with 5 being the best. I am very picky

about udders and it is very difficult for a cow to get a 5.
