A WARM WELCOME to the spring 2018 edition of the Argall BID Newsletter. In November 2017 businesses voted for a 3rd term for the Argall BID, which means the BID will be in place now until December 2022. Thanks for all of the businesses that voted for us, we will continue to make the estate the best place it can be and we will promote the Argall BID area as a great place to do business. As ever, the Argall BID Newsletter is the vehicle we use to showcase some of the amazing businesses we have here, and this month’s newsletter features an array of businesses from across the estate – Brick Lane Bikes, Tori Auto Service Ltd, JB Transmission Services, Original Iree Island and Crown Kitchens and Bedrooms. NEWS Everyone will have noticed the changes taking place in the BID area. The Lea Bridge Hill LLP development at 97 Lea Bridge Road, which will provide circa 300 new flats is rapidly moving forwards. There are also ongoing bridge widening and improvements to the Orient/Way Lea Bridge Road junction and electric works on Argall Avenue, all contributing to the buzz, chaos and creativity of the estate. Also of great interest is the continuing building works at Leyton Industrial Village being carried out by Capital Industrial, replacing old building stock with shiny new units that should be ready for tenants in the summer. Brick Lane Bikes started as the dream of a former London street courier in 2006, and began as an eclectic bike shop which soon became Europe’s fixed and vintage Mecca, stocked full with a dazzling variety of track components. The business grew into a major supplier of bikes and bike parts across Europe, with the biggest customer base in London and a fast-growing European market. As the demand for specialist and hard to source quality bike parts grew, the ‘BLB’ house brand was launched, supplying bespoke bicycle parts and frames all over Europe.

TORI AUTO SERVICE LTDTAHIR HUSSEIN TORI started off working in the motor trade in 2004, working in Forest Gate as a mechanic and salesman before starting up on his own from his current premises on Cromwell Industrial Estate. Tori’s garage undertakes all kinds of repair work – shocks, brakes, exhausts, full service, total engine rebuild and tyres. Tori has a fantastic mechanic on site, Chris Sieniuc, and as Tori is surrounded by a couple of other car-related businesses he works in a very supportive environment, with all of the neighbouring businesses helping each other out. Tori said that they do an average of 1 engine rebuild every week, and that most of his customers come via Ebay. Tori likes the area, saying it is a great place to have the business and parking and access is excellent. Opening Hours Mon-Fri 9-6 and Saturdays 9-4.

Maciek says the Argall area is great for their distribution networks and reports that the business is growing and expanding.

ORIGINAL IREE ISLANDDAVE HOSKINS is the dynamic manager of Original Iree Island, bakers and suppliers of authentic Jamaican Patties, baked goods and sauces. Dave honed his customer service skills working on the railways and decided to open a restaurant with his business partner as there was ‘a lack of good food and good service’ available. Dave started out in Forest Gate before acquiring a restaurant in

JB Transmission services is located at Unit 15 Staffa Road, and has Tori (see above) and another mechanic John as his neighbours. The business is owned by John Akbari, who has worked in the auto industry for sometime, having had previous premises in both Walthamstow and around the corner in Burwell Road. When the Burwell Road site was sold off for development, John relocated to his current premises, where he finds himself surrounded by like – minded businesses who all help each other out. John is the owner and salesperson and has a couple of accomplished mechanics, Peath Nathaniel and transmission specialist Imran Khan working with him. The specific USP for JB Transmissions is in the name – they rebuild automatic transmissions and are specialists in their field, usually doing 4-5 cars per week . They also undertake a full range

Walthamstow Market, Calypso Caribbean restaurant, which is still run by his ex-business partner. When they were running the restaurant Dave decided to start making his own patties, as buying them in everyday was proving impractical. Dave invested in some machinery and started making patties from premises in Blackhorse Mews. Dave took on the unit in Argall Avenue in 2016 and took some time and investment to get it into shape. It is now a fully functioning bakery, turning out a variety of tasty products including his famous delicious patties. Original Iree Island currently have contracts to supply 18 local schools with patties of every description – lamb, beef, chicken, vegetarian, and saltfish, and Dave is expanding his product range as we speak, and looking to increase his market, including weddings, parties and home deliveries. Apart from the patties, the bakery produces a variety of sausages (including vegetarian and jerk sausages) and a range of sweet things including cinnamon rolls and coconut turnovers. Dave currently employs three staff and most of the baking is done by late morning.

Crown Kitchens and Bedrooms, established in 2006 is owned by the Patel brothers, Imran and Shuhail, and started off as a supplier of high-end kitchens, expanding to design, supply and fit bedrooms from 2016. Currently the business is in two locations, but with business booming the owners decided to go into manufacturing, and consolidate operations in one venue, which is when the plans for no1 Argall Avenue were hatched. Sav Sandhu is the project manager on site, overseeing the build of this impressive new warehouse adjacent to Roxwell Business Park on Argall Avenue. Sav has worked in the building trade since he was a youngster, ending up as a senior contractor on end to end building projects. He has overseen the building of No1 Argall Avenue - the demolition of the old building, laying new foundations, putting in new drainage

and electrics, cladding, concrete floors and lifts – it has been a massive undertaking. Sav has used local labour and skills on the project (neighbours Metallico have manufactured the steel frame supports for the building and a local supplier will do the shutters). Building is set to be complete in July and will be over three floors, the core business will be design, build and sale of kitchens and bedrooms, with a trade counter, showroom and eventually manufacturing facilities to the rear, which should be ready in early 2019. The building looks impressive and we look forward to seeing them open in summer – watch this space!
