Greetings Families,
Kindergarten is off to a great start this school year! We have focused on learning and following the rules and routines of the classroom and school. Additionally, we have tested students in math and reading so that we know exactly what each student knows. We will use all of this information in order to make the best plans to help develop independent growing learners. Important reminders:
1. Make sure you call the school office before 9:00 am, at (313)462-6100, if your child is not attending school that day.
2. Kindergarteners may have a spill or accident so keep an extra pair of clothes in student backpacks.
3. Student snack should be healthy choices. Please do not send candy, chips, cookies, or soda pop.
Ms. Zwolak, Mrs. Rooker, & Ms. Ahad

Welcome back to school! So far, it has been very exciting. We have a new and exciting math curriculum this year called Bridges. We have begun Reading and Writing, and we will be starting Social Studies after our unit in Science.
• Science – we are learning about the structures of plants and animals and how they can survive in their environments.
• Math- we are learning how to read story problems, as well as solve them using different multiplication strategies.
• ELA- our first unit has the topic of government and we are working on finding the main idea and inferring.
Please, ask us any questions you have about what your child is learning and how to connect it to their daily lives at home, at the store, and much more! Practicing at home is very important, and your child needs your help! We look forward to the rest of the year!
Mrs. Strube, Mrs. Keith, & Mr. DeYoung
A lot of exciting things are happening in 5th grade. We love the new math curriculum. Our focus is on multiplication and we are really concentrating on how to use parenthesis in our math expressions. The students love the workplaces where they are playing games involving multiplication. During our reading block we have been using our detective skills to find out what the author’s point is and the text evidence that supports it. Getting ready for 6th grade is a lot of work! Mrs. Beiz, Mrs. Wells, & Mrs. Yax
Hello Bridge Parents! My name is Luljeta Sejdarasi and I am the ESL –teacher in Bridge Academy East. I have been working in Bridge since 2008 and I have had the pleasure to see how much our students have grown through all these years. The ESL Department helps all the EL-s (English Learners), students who speak another language at home other than English. All our EL-s are given quality and meaningful instruction designed to meet all our students ‘unique needs.
During the month of September, our Department has been really busy assessing our new Kindergarteners and the new students in our school with WAP-t test, a placement test which determines the English language proficiency of these students.
We will be servicing around 101 students, as of now, helping them acquire the English language in all four domains. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. This year, we have two paraprofessional helping all the newcomers in the ESL Department, Ms. Nadia Almasmary and Mr. Abdelraahim Almojjri.
Please, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] , if you have any issues or you need help with your kids at home. We wish you a wonderful school year!
