BRIDGEND & DISTRICT BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION BEEKEEPING BEGINNERS COURSE 2020 Beekeeping is a very interesting and rewarding activity and can be done by anyone who is reasonably active, has an enquiring mind, and has a site suitable for keeping bees. Bees kept in hives have a complex life history and are prone to a variety of disorders and mishaps which can make it frustrating for a beginner, unless they have a good understanding of bees and the principles of beekeeping. Our course combines talks on the theory of bees and beekeeping, combined with hands-on experience of handling bees. The course is held on Sunday mornings, from mid April to the end of May, at the Association’s Training Apiary at Bryngarw Country Park. An hour’s talk is followed by a further hour of practical beekeeping, at our Apiary within the Park. The cost of the course is £75, which includes a year’s membership of the Association. Family membership (two or more members of the same family attending the course) is £125. To register for the course, go to our website Shop. The number of participants on the course is limited to 20. The programme for the course is as follows: Sunday 19 April 2020: Introduction to the course – first look into a beehive. Sunday 26 April 2020: The Life Cycle of a honeybee colony Sunday 3 May 2020: The Beehive Sunday 10 May 2020: Colony Management Sunday 17 May 2020: Pests and diseases Sunday 31 May 2020: Honeybee reproduction Sunday 7 June 2020: Bee Forage
