A school based apprenticeship or traineeship commences while the student is at school completing their senior schooling (Years 10, 11 or 12). An apprenticeship or traineeship enables the student to gain a vocational or technical qualification while at school. This may be completed while at school or continue on as a part time or full time trainee/apprentice beyond school if not completed. Students work one day per week in the workplace working towards their qualification. A SAT must have an impact on the student’s timetable – WEDNESDAYS are the preferred day for Chancellor State College students.

What’s the difference between an Apprenticeship and a Traineeship? An apprenticeship is generally a trade qualification such as a carpenter, plumber, chef or hairdresser. A traineeship is a qualification such as Certificate III in Business Administration, Certificate II Retail or Certificate III Fitness.

How to do I get a SAT?Speak with our Apprenticeship, Traineeship and Work Experience Coordinator who may assist in helping you find a traineeship or apprenticeship.

Want more information?Visit www.apprenticeshipsinfo.qld.gov.au

What is the Future Skills Centre? From the commencement of 2013, Chancellor State College will be offering new suites of industry courses to better assist students focused on achieving a vocational outcome upon completion of school. Students will be enabled to reach their full potential through positive educational studies, activities, and learning experiences both at school and in the workplace.

At the Future Skills Centre young people will undertake student centred programs dedicated to enhancing specific industry knowledge, practical and personal skills, at a pace that ensures school attendance, engagement, and confidence. Importantly, all learning at the Future Skills Centre is guided by Chancellor’s motto of being “The Best We Can Be.”

Why study this way?Long gone are the days where a degree is the only way to earn the best money and be fulfilled in life. Nationally recognised industry qualifications taken up as part of the College’s Future Skills Centre have been identified by the Australian Government as critical first steps in supporting youth in the current National Workforce Development Strategy.

Students commencing nationally recognised industry qualifications whilst at school are more successfully able to transition to pathways such as apprenticeships and traineeships, full time employment or further training once school is completed.

How will it work?Students completing study in the Future Skills Centre will be required to study one Maths and one English subject in addition to their selected industry suite of courses. All students will be also required to participate in work placement related to their chosen industry area. Students will continue working toward obtaining their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) by the end of Year 12.
