ABOUT SRI LANKA

• Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is an independent island nation approximately 20 miles to the southeast of the Southern most tip of India• We were World Cricket Champions in 1996 and Runners Up in 2007. Probably Champions again in 2011• Ethnic Groups comprise of Sinhalese - 73.8% Tamils - 18.5% Moors - 7.2% Others - 0.5%• Population of about 20 million people

VEGA SRI LANKA PROJECT

The VEGA Project is a 3-year technical assistance program that utilizes volunteer expertise and if necessary paid consultants from both the US and other country wherever the required expertise is available

Demographic concentration of the project in Sri Lanka is more in the northern and eastern provinces which are referred to as post-conflict zones but are not limited to these areas

The lead implementer of the program is IESC and other partners include ACDI/VOCA, ICMA, LOL and FSVC

Clientele includes the National and Provincial Governments, Local Government authorities, Private sector firms , Non-Governmental organizations and also the USAID Mission

USAID PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS

Public Private Partnerships (PPP) is a new USAID business alliance program with Sri Lanka’s private sector concentrating in the North and East of Sri Lanka

Sectors include aquaculture, horticulture, logistics, construction and apparel manufacture

The program is expected to create 20,000 jobs in former conflict zones

USAID’s investment of around USD 20.0 million will generate an additional USD 45.0 million investment from the private sector for a total investment of about USD 65.0 million

John Keells Logistics a subsidiary of the John Keells Holdings will provide logistics support to farmers in the North and East of Sri Lanka

BRANDIX Lanka Limited is the largest exporter of apparel in Sri Lanka. Under the Brandix and USAID alliance 600 people trained in Batticaloa
