POINTS TO NOTE - PAPER 2 (PERFORMING I)
An ensemble performance of each student should be captured in one shot
No mark deduction for separating oral presentation and sight-singing recordings from ensemble performance
Conduct Oral presentation immediately after the ensemble performance
Students cannot refer to any scores/notes during oral examination
Follow closely the rubrics in conducting sight-singing exam (Use the new record form for 2018 exam)
Write clearly on the Record Form which candidate on the video is to be assessed

File format allowed:MP4, WMV, AVI, auto-run CD
Storage media:USB flash drive, CD, DVD (will not return to candidates)
Suggested Video recording setting for MP4: Video Stream Format: H.264/AVC Resolution: 1920h x 1080v Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0) Frame rate: 25 fps Scan Type: Progressive (25 p) or Interlace (25 i)
Before recording Check the recording sound levelShould not be too soft (nearly inaudible) or too loud
Suggested Audio Settings: Sample rate: 48000 samples/second
Suggestion: Try out video recording in advance and avoid problems during exam 12

Record the 3 ensemble performances of Candidates A and B in one shot.
Submit the same video for both Candidates A and B.
Stating the starting/ending time of each performance for the candidate on the record form.
The {oral presentation & sight-singing} part of two candidates can be done in separate or same recording file.

ORAL PRESENTATION SETTING
Change of examination format but does not change the original purpose of the assessment
Last for 3 to 5 minutes Conducted immediately after the ensemble performance Video taken should be shot in one-take for:
{Ensemble performance + Oral presentation + sight-singing} OR {Ensemble performance}, {Oral presentation + sight-singing }
Face the camera with no obstacles between candidate and the camera, e.g. music stand
Candidates must be examined individually.14

A script of the presentation is not allowed Not rely on any form of cueing, such as using cue cards,
slides or any similar devices Avoid over-rehearsing or reciting chunks of pre-learned

SIGHT-SINGING
POINTS TO NOTE - PAPER 3 (CREATING I) Scores must be submitted for assessment, otherwise zero mark
will be given ALL Recordings must be submitted, otherwise mark deduction
will be imposed File format allowed: MP3, WMA, WAV ( file is allowed) Reflective reports must be submitted for each composition,
otherwise mark deduction for each non-submission. Words exceeding the limit will not be marked Number of words below minimum requirement, mark deduction will be
imposed Overall ±10% allowance in number of words
Declaration form must be submitted Each audio file should be named according to the pieces in
the folio instead of “Track 1”, “Track 2”, etc. All recordings should be stored in one disc only Recording level should be loud enough and should not contain
unacceptable noise 19
Recordings should be double-checked to avoid any distortion in sound or technical problem
To print all scores and the reflective reports in ONE double-sided bound booklet/folder
Not to include a set of softcopy of the scores on the CD/USB
CDs should be put in sturdy hard case If live recordings is chosen, attention should be
paid to the quality of the performance. Inaccurate rhythm, playing more slowly than as indicated
on the score, problem in intonation (especially strings) and other flaws never help a marker assess the portfolio. 20
POINTS TO NOTE - PAPER 3 (CREATING I)
PAPER 3 (CREATING I) Before submitting the portfolios, teachers of
participating schools need to remind their students about the originality and double check if the ‘Declaration Form’ is duly completed.

POINTS TO NOTE - PAPERS 2 & 3
Check the portfolios carefully before submission Have a playback of the whole video to ensure the whole
file can be played smoothly Allow USB flash drive as storage media; but it will not be
returned to candidates Submission is not allowed after stipulated deadlines. Problems such as:
Blank disc Files that cannot be opened Mixing up the scores/melody/CDs of candidates within a school Mixing up the discs in Papers 2 and 3 etc.
