About the Contest Bright House Networks is proud to present

Bright Ideas STEM from Today’s Youth… a multi-state competition where high school students show how STEM – that’s science, technology, engineering and math – can bring their idea to life!

Help us engage and encourage high school students (ages 14-19) to join in on the fun and see how their Bright Ideas can make a difference and change the world!

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.  To enter and for full rules, go to www.brighthouse.com/brightideas. Starts on October 1, 2014 at 9:00AM ET and ends on November 7, 2014 at 9:00PM ET.  Open to legal residents of the following Bright House Networks service areas:  Bakersfield, CA; Birmingham, AL; Livonia, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Tampa Bay, FL; and Central FL who are students in Public, Private or Parochial High Schools who are 14 years or older, except employees of Sponsor, their immediate families and those living in the same household.  Void outside of the following Bright House Networks service areas:  Bakersfield, CA; Birmingham, AL; Livonia, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Tampa Bay, FL; and Central FL and where prohibited.  A.R.V. of finalist prizes (6) $4,000 each and grand prize (1) $4,000: Sponsor: Bright House Networks.

Who Can Enter

Students who are in public, private, or parochial high schools who are 14-19 years old as of the date of entry.

Legal residents of the following Bright House Networks service areas: Bakersfield, California; Birmingham, Alabama; Livonia, Michigan; Indianapolis, Indiana; Tampa Bay, Florida Central Florida (Orlando)

Not eligible: Officers, directors, members, and employees of Bright House Networks, the judging organization (if applicable), or any other party associated with the development or administration of this contest, and the immediate family (i.e., parents, children, siblings, spouse), and persons residing in the same household, as such individuals. This contest is void outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited.

How to EnterFrom September 22, 2014 to October 31, 2014 students can visit www.brighthouse.com/brightideas and follow the instructions to:

a) create a Contest account and complete the Contest registration form in its entirety;

b) enter Essay #1, directly into the field provided, an essay of no more than fifteen hundred (1,500) characters describing their idea powered by science, technology, engineering and math to make the world " a better place" including what it does, who you want to use it, and how they thought of it;

c) upload your original Drawing of your idea directly to the Website, or upload your Video; and

d) enter Essay #2, directly into the field provided, an essay of no more than fifteen hundred (1,500) characters describing what science, technology, engineering and math tools you need to make your idea work

Submission Requirements: Drawings may be in color or black and white and uploaded Drawings may be no larger than 2MB in size and must be either a .jpeg, .png or .gif file; Submissions must be in English; Submissions must not contain the last name, phone number(s), address, or email address of any person, including the Entrant(s); Submissions must not contain or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, "commercial pitch," promotional materials, junk mail, spam, pyramid schemes, or any other form of solicitation; Submissions must not contain or transmit any materials that contain software viruses or other computer code, files or programs designed to impair, limit, interfere with or cause harm to any communications network operated by any of the Contest Entities or the computers of any individual or entity participating in or otherwise associated with the Contest; Submissions must NOT have been previously submitted to another contest or submitted to any entity that would conflict with this Contest, as determined in the Contest Entities' sole discretion.

Selecting the Finalist All entries will be judged early December by a

panel of judges who are experts in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and innovation selected by Bright House Networks.

Entries will be scored on the following criteria: Creativity— 30% o Measure of idea's originality and measure of

whether it takes on a problem that hasn't been solved before, or approaches a familiar problem in a fresh, imaginative new way.

Feasibility— 30% o Likelihood that the science, technology, engineering

and math tools the user has selected to "power" his or her idea can actually make it work.

Usefulness— 30% o Likelihood that there is a need for the idea, or that a

person/professional field would find it helpful and valuable

Coolness— 10% o How cool the public thinks their entry is and the

results of the Public Voting Period.

The Coolness Factor: Online Voting Period Once all entries are received, they will be featured on

www.brighthouse.com/brightideas for visitors to see and vote for their favorites. Students can share their idea and engage their friends, families, and communities to vote.

Public voting will be from 9AM on Monday, November 3rd till 9PM on Friday, November 13th at www.brighthouse.com/brightideas.

Throughout the Public Voting Period, visitors to the website will be invited to vote on their favorite Submission by selecting the “This is Cool" button accompanying each Submission.

There is a limit of one (1) vote per person per entry per day.

Entrants will be disqualified if automatic voting software or vote brokering websites or other practices are used in their favor, as determined at the sole discretion of the Sponsor.

Final Pitch Event (Orlando, FL) Six finalists will be chosen, one from each

service area throughout the country. These students will travel to Orlando, Florida, where they will compete head-to-head on TV, in front of a studio audience. An expert panel of judges will select one winner.

While in Orlando, finalists will participate in various meetings and trainings to prepare for the Final Pitch event.

Each finalist will receive: two (2) coach airfare tickets to Orlando, FL; one (1) standard hotel room (double occupancy) for up to three (3) nights at a hotel; and, airport transfers and ground transportation while in Orlando. Orlando, Florida

NOTE: If, in the sole judgment of Sponsor, air travel is not required due to finalist’s proximity to prize location, ground transportation may be substituted for round trip air travel.

Selecting the Winner At the Final Pitch Event, the six (6) confirmed Finalists will have no more than six

(6) minutes to pitch their ideas live to a panel of judges selected by Bright House Networks. Note: Details and requirements for the "pitch" will be provided to Finalists (including team members, if any) once all results are confirmed.

The judges will judge each pitch based on the following equally weighted judging criteria:

a) Creativity- measure of idea's originality and measure of whether it takes on a problem that hasn't been solved before, or approaches a familiar problem in a fresh, imaginative new way

b) Feasibility- likelihood that the science, technology, engineering and math tools the user has selected to "power" his or her idea can actually make it work

c) Usefulness- likelihood that there is a need for the idea, or that a person/professional field would find it helpful and valuable

The one (1) Finalist with the highest score will be deemed the Grand Prize winner.

Note: Sponsor's decisions are final and binding on all matters related to the Finalist Pitch Event. In the event a confirmed Finalist cannot attend the Finalist Pitch Event for any reason, Sponsor reserves the right to proceed with the Finalist Pitch Event with fewer than six (6) Finalists, or select an alternate Finalist from the service area at issue to participate.

The Grand Prize THE BIG winner will have the chance to work with lead innovation

firm Fahrenheit 212 – which means this student’s (or team of students) dream or idea could potentially be realized and fulfilled!

Two weeks later, the winner will begin working with Fahrenheit 212, for a period of eleven weeks, in order to build a Minimally Viable Product (MVP) and a business plan.

Eleven weeks later, Fahrenheit 212 will provide the winner:   a 10-page pitch deck a video/physical prototype, a vision of the MVP a roadmap with next 3-4 steps a list of potential partners (with one or more introductions)

The project will be conducted at Fahrenheit 212’s New York office. Bright House Networks will send the Winner, along with one parent/guardian, to New York twice during the eleven week period to meet with Fahrenheit 212.

Contest Timeline
