Foreword

セルゲイ・プロクジン＝ゴルスキー

（1863 － 1944）は、ロシアの写真

家。自ら開発した撮影方法により、

カラーフィルム誕生のはるか以前

から、帝政ロシア期の様々な情景を

カラー写真に収めることに成功し

ていた。

過去の風景にも、もちろん色はつい

ていた。しかし私たちが通常モノク

ロ写真を通してのみ知ることがで

きる 100 年前の情景は、その色彩

を教えてはくれない。３色のフィル

ターを使って独自のカラー写真を

編み出していたセルゲイの写真は、

100 年前のロシアを鮮やかに映し

出し、失われた自然の色彩をいまに

蘇らせる。むしろ、見えるはずのな

かった色彩を平然と差し出してく

れているその写真には、いま目の前

にある風景以上の生々しさが感じ

られるのではないだろうか。

is best known for his pioneering work in

color photography of early 20th-century

Russian Empire.

Of couse, the world was full of colours

even before colour photographic printing

was developed. However the ordinary

antique monochromatic photographs

never hinted to the color these black and

white images portrayed. Sergey invented

his own unique technique to capture the

color photography using 3 color filters. The

vivid, colorful images of his work revive

the old Russia and its landscape from 100

years ago. These photographs represent

a colorful world which evokes an even

more raw and vivid nature than what we

see today. It is evident that even though

these images are a hundred years old they

convey something suitably modern.
