It’s a record-breaking year forBrighton Fringe, with more than 900events lined up at 165 venues acrossthe city, making it the biggest andbest arts festival in the country. From comedy, theatre, dance

and visual art, to family-friendly andeducational events, there reallyis something for everyone. Andhundreds of the events are free.Kicking off with a fireworks display

for the first time (see page 12),the Fringe will showcase a diverserange of artists, fromwell-establishedperformers, to thosewhoare learningtheir craft. It is an opportunity forwould-be stars to display their talents, and this year’s Window programmeshowcases the very best newcomers.Fringe City is back, and it will

see the North Laine come alive atthe weekends, with performances, installations, sideshows, dance-offs,choirs, cabaret, puppetry, children'sworkshops, acrobatics and surrealwalkabout performers (see page 12).

The Fringe also brings back thecity’s famous ‘White Night’, underthe new name of ‘The Fringe All-Nighter’. It will see a late night FringeCity bring live cabaret, circus, musicand performances to the streets ofBrightonandeveningart installations, exhibitions, theatre, cabaret, musicand club nights run across Fringevenues until 8.30am (see page 12).With so many events on offer, it’s

(sadly) impossible to see them all,but with the free Fringe app (seepage 11), you can create your ownschedule for the month-long Fringecelebrations.Part of the fun of Fringe is thumbing

through the guide to to discover thehidden gems, and stumbling acrossan event you may never have thoughtto see, but we’ve given you a goodstart with our must-see events (page4 and 5).This year’s month-long Fringe is set

to be as eclectic and diverse as ever.It is part of the life of the city, and its

impact in Brighton and Hove - andbeyond - grows each year.Julian Caddy, managing director

of Brighton Fringe, said: “All overthe world, Fringe festivals havebecome a fundamental partof the arts ecosystem and thecontinued extraordinary growthof Brighton Fringe is testament tothis. We are taking people awayfrom digital screens and openingup live performance to a wideraudience than ever before, withan unprecedented range andaffordability that is truly a breath offresh air. Brighton Fringe is now adefinitive landmark event that thewhole country can be proud of.”He’s right. And we’re lucky enough

to have this landmark event right onour doorstep. Let’s make the most ofit.
