DETAILS OF THE REQUEST Letter of conformity to cover the following systems where 48mm and 70mm deep C studs are used: - GypWall CLASSIC, GypWall QUIET & GypWall QUIET SF. These systems contain a range of different cladding and insulation options. It is required to assess that if the metalwork in the above systems were replaced, as given in Table 1, an equivalent airborne sound insulation performance would be achieved, if tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2: 2010 and rated in accordance with BS EN ISO 717-1: 2013, with the same cladding and /or insulation option.
Metal Component

TEST EVIDENCE The test evidence used in this assessment has been used under the authorisation of the test report owner and has been used with their permission (see pages 46 and 47). Furthermore, the test evidence has been reviewed by The Building Test Centre to ensure that the test reports are still valid. All test evidence is presented in its original format, including figure and table numbers. Test report Number BTC 20036A An acoustic test report covering laboratory sound insulation testing to BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010 on a British Gypsum GypWall Classic partition clad with a single layer of 12.5mm Gyproc WallBoard each side. (Baseline test). Test Number H20036AA
TEST CONSTRUCTION The test specimen was constructed in an aperture having an overall opening of 2400mm (high) x 3600mm (wide). Gypframe 50FEC50 Folded Edge Standard Floor and Ceiling Channels were fixed to the head and base of the test aperture at 600mm centres using 25mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws. Gypframe 48S50 'C' Studs were positioned between the head and base channels at each end of the aperture and fixed using 25mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws spaced at 600mm centres. Gypframe 48S50 'C' Studs were positioned between the head and base channels at 600mm centres. The framework was clad with a single layer of 12.5mm Gyproc WallBoard each side. The boards were screw fixed around the perimeter of the board and the intermediate stud positions at 300mm centres using 25mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws. All vertical joints were staggered between layers. All joints and screw heads were taped and the perimeter was taped and sealed with Gyproc Sealant.

TEST CONSTRUCTION The test specimen was constructed in an aperture having an overall opening of 2400mm (high) x 3600mm (wide). Gypframe 72FEC50 Folded Edge Standard Floor and Ceiling Channels were fixed to the head and base of the test aperture at 600mm centres using 25mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws. Gypframe 70S50 'C' Studs were positioned between the head and base channels at each end of the aperture and fixed using 25mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws spaced at 600mm centres. Gypframe 70S50 'C' Studs were positioned between the head and base channels at 600mm centres. 25mm Isover APR 1200 insulation was placed within the stud cavity.

Gypframe RB1 Resilient Bars were fixed to one side of the metal frame work at 600mm centres using 13mm British Gypsum Wafer Head Screws. All the bars were fixed with the base flange on the top side with the exception of the uppermost bar which was fixed with the base flange on the bottom side to provide a board fixing at the partition head. Short sections of Gypframe RB1 Resilient Bar were fixed around the perimeter in between the horizontal bars using 13mm British Gypsum Wafer Head Screws, two per section. The Gypframe RB1 Resilient Bars were clad with an inner layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Habito and an outer layer of 15mm Gyproc SoundBloc. The inner layer of boards was screw fixed around the perimeter and within the field of the board at 600mm centres using 25mm British Gypsum High Performance Screws. The outer layer of boards was screw fixed around the perimeter of the board and within the field of the board at 300mm centres using 40mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws. The Gypframe 70S50 ‘C’ Studs were clad with an inner layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Habito and an outer layer of 15mm Gyproc SoundBloc. The inner layer of boards was screw fixed around the perimeter of the board at 600mm centres using 25mm British Gypsum High Performance Screws. The outer layer of boards was screw fixed around the perimeter of the board and within the field of the board at 300mm centres using 40mm British Gypsum Drywall Screws. All vertical joints were staggered between layers. All joints and screw heads were taped and the perimeter was taped and sealed with Gyproc Sealant.

DISCUSSION The DETAILS OF REQUEST gives a range of constructions where 48mm and 70mm deep C studs
are currently used (GypWall CLASSIC. GypWall QUIET & GypWall QUIET SF) including the full or
partial replacement of some of the current metal framework with UltraEmbossedTM profiles of the
same depth.
This change in metalwork is the only difference between the systems in DETAILS OF REQUEST
and the existing performance claims of partitions in the given range.
Comparison tests have been conducted on a selection of the requested range between partitions
using UltraSTEELTM profiles & UltraEmbossedTM profiles

Table 2. Comparison of UltraSteelTM profiles and UltraEMBOSSEDTM profiles test results
Table 2 shows that tested partitions with UltraEMBOSSEDTM profiles give equivalent Sound
Reduction Index (Rw) values to those achieved by the UltraSTEELTM profiles for partitions of the
same construction.

Throughout these tests in Table 2 there are only two slight differences in the materials used in
direct comparisons.
The board density in BTC 19851A (an UltraSTEELTM partition) uses boards which are 0.1Kg/m2
heavier than those used in BTC 20106A & BTC20097A (partitions with UltraEmbossedTM studs).
This has no effect on the conclusion as heavier boards are only likely to improve the results
The differences in the density of the insulation used in each comparison test are shown in Table 3.
These differences can be considered insignificant when reviewing the comparison of acoustic
performance.

Table 3. Changes in insulation density throughout comparison tests For all other partitions in the DETAILS OF REQUEST, the replacement of metalwork with
UltraEmbossedTM profiles will remain the only change for the requested constructions
It is reasonable to assume that for all GypWall CLASSIC, GypWall QUIET & GypWall QUIET SF
systems the remaining partitions would achieve equivalent performance if UltraSTEELTM profiles
are replaced with UltraEMBOSSEDTM.

CONCLUSION In view of the foregoing evidence, it is our opinion that if the constructions described under DETAILS OF THE REQUEST were subjected to a laboratory sound insulation tests, in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2: 2010 and BS EN ISO 717-1:2013 the stated constructions would achieve: Estimated minimum Sound insulation (Rw) would achieve equivalent sound insulation (Rw) performance of the same construction with the UltraSTEELTM metalwork fully or partially replaced with UltraEMBOSSEDTM profiles.

LIMITATIONS This assessment addresses itself solely to the ability of the partition system described to satisfy the criteria of the laboratory airborne sound insulation test and does not imply any suitability for use with respect to other unspecified criteria. This assessment is issued on the basis of test data and information to hand at the time of issue. If contradictory evidence becomes available to the assessing authority the assessment will be unconditionally withdrawn and the applicant will be notified in writing. Similarly the assessment is invalidated if the assessed construction is subsequently tested since actual test data is deemed to take precedence over an expressed opinion. The opinions and interpretations expressed in this assessment are outside the scope of UKAS accreditation.
