Established in 1976, Broadcrown today is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of the highest quality generating sets and complete power generation systems.

Broadcrown has always paid close attention to the special and constantly changing needs of the international power generation market and has developed its skills, knowledge, technology and manufacturing base with this in mind.

The full product range offers a wide range of standard and bespoke power generation systems to the worldwide market, from 75kW to 40MW as a single unit. They include:

• Diesel and gas powered generators for standby, prime and baseload power. • Gas powered cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power [CHP]) modules. • Offshore and onshore diesel and gas powered generators. • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. • Mobile, trailer mounted, diesel powered generators. • An extensive range of generator control systems ranging from basic key start to automatic mains fail operation. • Independent power supply and mains synchronising. • Sophisticated load management control systems incorporating dual redundant Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). • Total turnkey power supply solutions.

All Broadcrown products are available as suitable for installation within a dedicated plant room, and all except Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems can be supplied within a sound attenuated canopy, weatherproof acoustic enclosure or ISO style container for outdoor, all weather use.

With corporate headquarters and two state of the art factories in the United Kingdom, Broadcrown undertakes all aspects of independent power supply:

• Design

• Project management

• Manufacture

• Installation

• Commissioning

• Maintenance

All Broadcrown products are designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom. Larger generators, with outputs exceeding 550kVA (and custom built units), are designed and manufactured in a purpose built 28,000 sq ft factory at the corporate headquarters in Hixon, Staffordshire. Smaller generators are manufactured in a dedicated 20,000 sq ft plant site in Newtown, Wales.

Both factories have been designed and equipped for the manufacture of power generation systems and employ state of the art design and manufacturing techniques.

The highest quality standards are a fundamental requirement of Broadcrown. This is rigorously applied to everything that is product related, including design, working practices and factory specifications. Broadcrowns strict adherence to these high standards resulted in it becoming the first power generation company to be approved to BS5750/ISO 9001 in 1986.

In order to focus on the specific needs of individual customers, Broadcrown is structured into several operating divisions each with its own dedicated staff and resources. Each of these divisions is dedicated to providing the best possible levels of service and customer satisfaction.

These high standards are maintained by a growing international network of distributors backed by the Broadcrown Regional Support Centres of Miami, Singapore, Nigeria, South Africa, India and China, providing worldwide product availability and after sales support. With its significant investment in new facilities and its customer focused organization, Broadcrown is able to blend design excellence with production efficiency to produce cost-effective power generation systems that fully meet, or where possible exceed, the precise standards of design, installation, operation and performance that we feel our worldwide customers deserve.

To fully satisfy these needs, Broadcrown has developed an enviable reputation for the technical excellence of its staff, combining an extensive skill, experience and knowledge base with cutting edge technology to create a range of unrivalled products.

In the development of their ever-expanding product range Broadcrown has always sought to combine in house skills, experience and technology with the active involvement of the very best component manufacturers. This gives the benefit of employing both in house experience and know how together with the latest specialist cutting edge technology and knowledge of our suppliers.

This highly successful product development strategy enables Broadcrown to produce an exceptional range of ‘standard’ products. However possibly the greatest benefit of this approach is in the design and production of a wide range of bespoke power generation solutions, designed to supply the increasing demand for more challenging, specialized and higher output power supply systems.

Broadcrown are delighted to provide solutions for challenging power generation requirements. These projects may involve parameters such as stringent noise control, restricted space, remote cooling arrangements, special voltages and more.Broadcrown will also supply total turnkey power solutions, covering all aspects of the project from initial site survey to commissioning, including site and project management.

The Broadcrown objective is to produce the right product for the application, designed, built, installed and commissioned by highly trained and experienced engineers in order to not only ensure, but also where possible exceed, complete customer satisfaction.

For the range of standard generating sets for the export market and small UK projects up to 200kW, Broadcrown have developed a standard range of acoustic canopies — designed to operate in harsh outdoor environmments whilst providing excellent security and acoustic performance.

All steel canopy components are pre-treated and polyester powder coated (to a typical thickness of 70-80μm) in RAL9001 white and all baseframes are finished in RAL9005 black. This, along with the use of zinc plated fasteners and neoprene seals, provides for a very durable yet attractive finish.

Acoustically, the canopies are designed to meet the requirements of EU Legislation 2000/14/EC. This level of performance is met by the extensive use of fire-retardant polyurethane foam together with efficient management of cooling air. Exhaust noise is minimised by internally mounted high performance exhaust silencers.

A steel fuel tank, complete with filler, gauge and accessory points, is integrated within the baseframe on all canopies except Midi. Alternatively, these can be provided with a bund and separate tank where required.

The Midi canopies makes use of a compact tank moulded in tough polypropylene, with visual level indication, mounted within the baseframe.

Other key features include:- Gull-wing or side opening doors for good service access- Panel/breaker access door with viewing window- Heavy duty locks on all doors for total security- Weather cap on exhaust discharge- Emergency Stop button relocated to canopy exterior- Lifting and holding down points- Fork Lift pockets (up to Canopy 4A)- Single roof lifting point (available on certain models only)

The canopy range has been extended to include the next size range of standard generating sets (up to 508kW) — known as C5, C6 and C7. Here the design principles are similar, but the canopy is of fully welded construction and relies on rock wool and a perforated zintec steel lining to achieve acoustic performance. A two-pack polyurethane paint system makes for a tough and durable finish.

Again, there is an integral steel fuel tank with the option of a bund and separate tank.

Baseframe lifting/lashing points are provided but, in lieu of fork lift pockets, canopies C5 and C6 have a single roof lifting point as standard.

For standard product in the larger size ranges (4.80 — 1200kW) a range of standard acoustic container packages have been designed.

The packages are based on standard ISO 20 ft and 40 ft ‘high cube’ shipping containers and are thus ideal for transport by sea or land.

The container is of fully welded construction and relies on rock wool and a perforated zintec steel lining to achieve acoustic performance with specially designed internally mounted silencers to control exhaust noise. A two-pack polyurethane paint system provides a durable finish and all doors are fitted with high security locks.

Some models (dependent on engine type) can be supplied with integral fuel tank.

Variants and options include :

- Interior lighting and small power- Motorised air inlet dampers- External fuel connections- External auxiliary power connections- Lub oil make-up tank

For the range of standard generating sets for the export market and for small UK projects <400kW, Broadcrown has developed a standard range of control panels detailed below. For UK standard generating sets and UK major projects >400kW, please refer to the X Range control panels. All generating sets are provided with a set mounted control panel providing a high degree of reliability and a user-friendly operating system. The entry level is a manual key start system (BC 701), however recognising the need for a high level of exibility, the generating sets can be provided with alternative control panels oering auto start capability, automatic mains failure (AMF) control and power measurement facilities. To enable Broadcrown to meet the dierent and challenging requirements of our customer base in generating set application, the range of control panels is further enhanced by the provision of additional models designed to allow generator to generator synchronisation and load sharing (BC5510), and generator to mains/utility supply synchronisation for no break return or soft load transfer (BC 5520).

All control panels are built to the highest standards and include instrumentation for display of engine and alternator parameters and a protection monitoring system for all critical engine and alternator alarms and shutdowns. Please refer to detailed specication for standard features and optional equipment.
