1 AVOID IDENTITY CRISESName badges are a good idea if children dont know each other well. Hand them out withglitter pens, so kids can decorate them while they wait for the others to arrive.

2 KEEP THEM INVOLVEDChildren may be upset when they lose a game like musical statues. Instead of telling them to sit out, give them a sticker (soyou can keep track of whos still in the running) and let them carry on.

3 PLAY THE RIGHT GAMESPhysical games are great if you have the space. Try an obstacle course or a limbo competition. Make sure you have some quiet games, too; try cookie decorating or mask-making for older children.

4 INCLUDE EVERYONE One way to make sure all the children are involved in the action is to let everyone win asmall inexpensive gift in games such as pass the parcel fi gurines, stickers or mini packs ofraisins or sweets are a good idea.

Best party fi zzesA good sparkler will get the party started: our Taste the Difference Fairtrade Moscato Ros is perfect withits juicy berry fl avours, plus its lower in alcohol thanmost fi zzes at 5.5%. Or treat your guests to ouraward-winning Blanc de Noirs Champagne.

Best party whitesAny wine you serve needs to be easy-drinking, soItalian whites are a good choice. Try WinemakersSelection by Sainsburys Pinot Grigiowith its delicate peach and almond notesits a great match for party nibbles.

Best party redsSimilarly with reds, choose a smooth and fruity wine like our vibrant Winemakers Selection by Sainsburys Montepulciano dAbruzzo with its redcherry fl avours, its bound to be a winner.

Chill outTake the stress out of party organising with our fuss-free guide

So, youve decided to throw the party of the year heres how to make sure you dont forget a thing so you can enjoy your bash

Invitations: whether you write your own or send an email, ensure you have a RSVP both phone and email on your invite. Chase up replies before you order food and buy supplies

Youve got your guest list, so start planning your food and drinks, taking into consideration the likes and dislikes of your guests

Order your platters from Sainsburys at least three days before the big day. Dont do your weekly shop at the same time or therell be no room in the fridge. Instead, book a Sainsburys online delivery for the next day visit sainsburys.co.uk/groceries to fi nd out how

Stock up on disposable plates, bowls, cutlery, napkins and platters at Sainsburys, plus binbags for blitzing the kitchen the next day

Tell your neighbours about the party by popping a note through their letterbox especially if party-goers will be staying late

    Get organised!

SETTING THE SCENE Decide which rooms youll host the party in and clear out any

bulky items that could make the room crowded. Think about moving chairs around or borrowing some extra ones to create social areas for people to sit and chat

Close the doors to the rooms that are off-limits its also a great place to temporarily store extra furniture

Raining on your parade? Dont worry, get everyone to leave their brollies in a basket or bucket outside, and make a space somewhere for people to dump their coats

Everyone ends up in the kitchen at parties, so make sure youve got lots of worktop space free for people to make drinks, and for you to load up your platters with food

Swaying to Take That or air guitar-playing along with Led Zeppelin? Decide what kind of music the majority of your guests will enjoy, create a playlist of the songs and have the speakers all hooked up and ready to go

Bright lights arent fl attering if you have dimmers, use them to make the room warm and inviting

Decorate your room or garden with different coloured napkins stapled over string to create inexpensive party bunting

LAYING THE TABLE Put coloured glass beads in decorative bowls as an alternative

to fresh fl owers they wont get in the way when you want to put your platters on the table

Do you have a cake stand? It looks nice when food is displayed at different heights and it will give you more space on the table. If you dont have one, an upturned bowl works just as well

If your table is in the centre of the room, move it to the side to make more space for guests to move about. Or if you have lots of small tables, use these instead of a single large one it prevents crowding in one area

Give your old table a makeover by using a 5m roll of wrapping paper as a tablecloth metallic versions are especially good at preventing spills from going through to the table. They save on washing up and can easily be disposed of after the party
