Intelligent sensor technology support residents and care staff. Care home environments should be geared towards making life just that little bit easier for residents and to helping them retain their autonomy for as long as possible. Usually, this does not work without human support.

Care staff convey a feeling of security and a sense of well-being. These characteristics are also reflected in

the technology incorporated in our care beds. The sensors integrated in the bed transmit a digital signal if help is needed. Every second that relieves the pressure on care staff is also a gain for the resident.

Only if products meet these requirements can we say that they are “products for caring with heart and mind”.

Because care is important to us

Safety that you see and hear

As soon as a resident gets out of bed, staff are auto-matically notified via a system of sensors on the ‘smart’ care bed. A messaging option can be activated to inform staff in the duty room through the existing call system. The message delay can be adjusted as desired to an interval such as 15 or 30 seconds, or 2 or 15

minutes. The Out-of-Bed system is activated via a handset attached to the bedside. This function can also be deactivated at the same location. The system relieves the strain on staff and provides extra safety for the resident. Immediate activation of a visual

Residents in a care home need light to find their way in the dark if they need to get up in the night. The elderly and people with dementia particularly benefit from discreet lighting. When the Out-of-Bed technology is activated, the reading lamp is automatically switched on when the resident exits the bed. This saves the need to search for the light switch. The reading lamp switches off automatically once the resident has returned to bed.

If a restless resident frequently needs to get out of bed in the dark, a glare-free light under the bed can remain permanently switched on. The handset can be used to turn this under bed light on and off by hand. When used in conjunction with the Out-of-Bed system, the under bed light is activated automatically if the resident exits the bed. This enables the resident to get out of bed safely and easily find his or her way back. Once the patient has returned to bed, the Out-of-Bed system will automatically deactivate the light.

Three control levels: for residents, care staff and technicians

The new LCD handset has a clear display and comes with only three buttons. This makes for particularly easy and intuitive use. Dimmed permanent backlighting makes the controls easy to see irrespective of the time of day. The new handset is very robust with its slim, stylish design.

Special functions for care staff (level 2)A special control level for care staff offers all the options needed for adjustíng the bed. Specific functions can also be locked and released for the resident.

Service functions for the technician (level 3)This technical staff level allows specific settings and adjustments to be carried out to the bed. Potential problems can also be quickly solved using the inte-grated error analysis function.

Using it is child’s play for the resident (level 1)This level displays only the functions that has been pre-set by the carer for use by the resident. With the aid of three buttons, the handset can also be operated by residents with severe physical limitations.

The legal aspects

A look at the legal aspects of the Out-of-Bed system:The Out-of-Bed system informs care staff imme-diately if a resident exits or returns to bed. This infor-mation enhances the resident’s safety but, at the same time, impacts his or her privacy. What needs to be considered in this case?

Legal requirements of using the Out-of-Bed system:According to case law, technical monitoring systems are an intrusion into the resident’s right to privacy. Before activating an Out-of-Bed system, justification of this surveillance measure must be established in order to use it within the law.

Justification of this measure can be established:1. Through the consent of the resident2. Through the consent of the resident’s legal repre-sentative (person authorised to manage the resident’s affairs, parents) where residents have insufficient capacity to give this themselves.

Form of consent:Consent can be required in writing. To secure evidence, however, it is sufficient if consent has been given verbally by the resident or the legal represent-ative and the verbal consent is recorded in the do-cumentation.

Approval by the guardianship court:Approval of the guardianship court in accordance with § 1906 (4) of the German Civil Code is only required in addition to consent from the legal represen tative if the use of the Out-of-Bed system is equivalent to a deprivation of liberty measure. A deprivation of liberty measure is only present if the staff who answer the signal sent forcibly (with coercion) prevent the resident from moving from one place to another*. We would be pleased to provide detailed informa-tion on this at your request.

The rechargeable battery enables adjustment of the bed even when it is not connected to the wall socket, and will be recharged control once connected to the mains power supply. The battery can also be used on other beds if these are prepared for battery use during production. This provides more flexibility in the daily care routine.
