Combination Of Main Product And Ancillary Task.

Question 2.

Page 2: Brodie evaluation question 2

What is a brand?

• A brand is the main identity of a certain merchandise, product, service or business. In our case it is a musical product. (Dictionary Explanation)

• In my own words I would say that a brand is something that people will recognise after a few different products, continuous image.

Our Brand Image.

• Our brand image was rebellious, fun, happy and jokey.

• We focused on entertaining the audience and attracting them to our band.

• For example we liked the rebellious side of oasis. We also attempted to relate to bloc party with how their music video’s were quite jokey and fun.

How we constructed a sense of Identity.

• We attempted to keep the same image in the music video and in our ancillary tasks. We portrayed the band as fun an young. We did this by using costumes in the video, and in the ancillary tasks it shows us messing around.

• However in our ancillary tasks we were wearing normal clothing so it didn’t work as well as we thought.

• Although in the posters and the digi-pack we wore similar clothing, it didn’t correlate throughout all our products.

• Costumes: Banana’s in Pajama's, Braveheart costume, and Scooby Doo.

Video Similarities

• Both Video’s have fancy dress costumes on. And they both are the same style of music.

Video Similarities

• Both video’s show people walking towards camera. Lead singers at the front.

Video Differences

• Video’s whilst singing don’t show all the band together.

Video Differences

• Our music video doesn’t show flashbacks. It is more watching a television.

Ancillary Tasks-Advert

• Both adverts were very similar as they are both showing photographs of the whole band, and they are promoting either an album or a show.

• However there are differences our ancillary task is set out in a portrait point of view and it is promoting an album. Also our advert seems more like it is done in a studio whereas there's doesn’t.

Ancillary Tasks- Covers

• The Covers are quite different because Happy Mondays use their own art work, whereas we have taken photographs.

Page 12: Brodie evaluation question 2

Continued…

• We have shown photographs of our artist, this is similar to oasis’s cover of definitely maybe because they have photographs of their band.

Conclusion

• Both our ancillary tasks and music video follow the trend of the indie genre.

• Both of them have their own personal feel to the product.

• However I feel that the ancillary tasks and the music video don’t suit each other and if I was to re-do the task I would make them similar.
