Action Fraud are now an Information
Provider
Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud
and Internet crime where you should report fraud if you have
been scammed, defrauded or experienced cybercrime. They
provide a central point of contact for information about fraud
and financially motivated internet crime.
People are scammed, ripped off or conned every day, it is the
biggest growth crime and we know that our members find
the variety of different warnings (that are sometimes out of
date) confusing. We also know that it is not always clear
where to report potential scams or check if something is a
scam. The service is run by the City of London Police
working alongside the National Fraud Intelligence
Bureau who are responsible for assessment of the reports and
to ensure that your fraud reports reach the right place. The
Our ANNUAL MEETING was at the Sandringham PH on Tuesday the 21 st October 2014. It started at 7.30 pm, and quite a few were at the meeting, even if some didn’t know it!
As the approach was successful, we’ve decided, if the management will kindly have us again, to do it again this year. Look out for details nearer the time.
The committee were voted back in apart from Tim Davies, who wished to stand down after many good years as a Co-ordinator, but kindly continues as Assistant Treasurer. Many thanks to Tim and indeed all for their continuing voluntary service to our Community. (Details elsewhere in this edition.)

BHNW feedback on the S. Glos consultations for community engagement and safety have been submitted. Unfortunately we missed the trading standards consultation deadline. We are pretty gloomy about the proposals but understanding of the rock and hard place. We made clear that, in our view, if community engagement is to be cut at S. Glos, the Parish is the place for it to be done. We are looking to discuss this with them.

For other simple techniques to save money on your energy bills, do download the ‘Guide to Switching Energy And Staying Warm’ - you’ll learn that energy wasted by leaving electrical items on standby costs UK households an average of £50-90 per year, as well as lots other handy pieces of information.
Rainbows in BH are a full unit with a huge waiting list. This is an appeal for anyone out there who would like to consider helping to set up another unit in Quakers Road. The underpinning values of Guiding are… • We are for all girls. • We give girls their own space. • We give girls a voice. • We change as the lives of girls change. Rainbows are for girls aged 5-7yrs. Training and support is provided for all volunteers. If you would like to help provide opportunity for girls to explore and have fun, with a programme developed by the girls themselves (with guidance), then please contact: Wendy: [email protected] or 07954370043. Hoping to hear from you soon!
Staying warm this winter
After one of the warmest autumns on record, the first of the winter weather set in with parts of the country dropping to below freezing temperatures. Snow dusted parts of the country, so it is important that we all work together to ensure that those most vulnerable are cared for and can stay warm this winter. This can be done by encouraging everyone to consider what they can do in their own homes to stay warm and reduce energy bills this winter. One of the quickest and easiest ways to save money is to shop around for the best energy deal. You could save up to £153 by simply switching provider, however there are also many things you can do around the house to reduce your energy consumption that can have a big effect on your energy bills. To help remove any concerns or confusion about the best ways to keep warm this winter, National NW worked with charity Friends of the Elderly to compile a guide to all things energy, featuring some helpful tips to manage your energy usage. The guide can be downloaded by visiting: www.ourwatch.org.uk/resource_centre/document_library/a_guide_to_switching_energy_and_staying_warm/ Top Tips for Saving Money Save on your energy bill with these 3 easy ways to switch: • Visit comparethemarket.com • Call 0800 093 6831 • Download our Snapt App (Available for iPhone in the App Store) (concludes in next column)

PAVEMENT PARKING CONTINUES ITS CONTROVERSY ALONG WITH OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS! From the Police web site: Parking infringements: Please note that enforcement is no longer a criminal matter in all Local Authority areas. The civil enforcement of car parking regulations in the UK is carried out by Civil Enforcement Officers who operate on behalf of either the Local Authority or a private firm. Parking obstructions: An offence may be committed if a person obstructs the road unnecessarily. An obstruction on the road includes: • A vehicle parked in a dangerous position. • A skip causing an obstruction or in a dangerous
position. • An obstruction of the pavement causing pedestrians to
enter the highway in order to pass the obstruction. • Any other impediment to the free flow of traffic. If the parking offence is not causing a significant obstruction or placing other road users in danger then these offences will usually be dealt with by PCSOs or Police Officers. Important: If a parking offence is causing an immediate significant obstruction and/or is placing other road users in danger then call 999 for immediate Police attendance.

We do our best to drop a Welcome Pack from the local Co-ordinator and Contact Point through the door of new residents. It’s done to say 'Hello' and let you know who we are/explain the Watch and the area covered. We don't catch everyone, so if you have moved in recently and not received a pack - 'Welcome. ’ Please speak with your contact person (details above) or use our contact details to let us know and we'll get one to you?
Emergency Calls – When to call 999 - only to be used in an emergency. The police should only be called on 999 when: • There is a danger to life or a risk of injury being caused
imminently. Examples include serious road accidents, assaults or serious disorders.
• A crime is in progress. Examples include assault, burglary, and theft or if an offender is still on scene, or has just left the scene.
• Police attendance is required immediately such as to prevent a breach of peace, someone acting suspiciously or someone who is about to commit an offence.
Non-emergency calls – When to call the 101 number . An operator is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to deal with your enquiry. This number should be used for all other enquires, advice on police matters and to report crimes which have already happened, where there is no sign of an offender. Do ask them to put it’s a NW call on the computer s ystem for both please and have your postcode ready?
A salutary tale from one of our advertisers – re-enforcing the lead article on Page 1: I was alerted to the problem at 6am this morning, it woke me up! I've got my account set to alert me when someone logs in to my account that’s not in the area. Someone in Nigeria managed to hack the account but in the time it took me to log in, they had sent an email out, deleted all my sent messages so I couldn't trace who they went to, deleted all contacts and changed filters so I couldn't receive any messages! Technology eh! How quickly would you know if it happened to you? Here’s one option. Check if there are others? Stronger security for your Google Account. With 2-Step Verification, you’ll protect your account with both your password and your phone. Signing in to your account will work a little differently 1 You'll enter your password. Whenever you sign in to Google, you'll enter your password as usual. 2 You'll be asked for something else. Then, a code will be sent to your phone via text, voice call, or our mobile app. Or, if you have a Security Key, you can insert it into your computer’s USB port. Keep sign-in simple: During sign-in, you can choose not to use 2-Step Verification again on that particular computer. From then on, that computer will only ask for your password when you sign in.
