BROOK PARK NEWSLETTER www.brookparkmanor.com

Crime Watch ProgramThe Crime Watch Program is now in effect for Brook Park. How it works--Call 911! That is always the first step. Then an email to: [email protected]. A mass email will be sent out to neighbors informing us of the situation and what to be aware of. If you are not on this email list and wish to be added, please forward your

email address to [email protected] and request to be added to receive Crime Watch reports. Please note, you will also receive emails not pertaining to Crime Watch such as items for sale, etc. Most all of us have phones with cameras. Please use this tool to video any suspicious activity if possible. Note license plate numbers.

Cookbooks for SaleBrook Park Cookbooks make great gifts. Cost per book is $12. Contact Lisa Kocent: [email protected] to purchase.

Event Ideas Wanted Do you have an idea for a neighborhood activity or event? Have you ever thought "someone should organize a _______?" The Civic Association is interested in hearing your ideas. We do lots of cool stuff already, but there's always room (and often budget) for more!

Just this past year we added a smashingly successful Christmas Caroling and Bonfire - it was a wonderful time, attended by over 70 people. We expect it to be an annual tradition. Upcoming this year we expect to also add a Christmas tree lighting event (with the switch to be thrown by a certain jolly, red-suited, white-bearded fellow who will also have candy canes for the little ones). Also recently added was the return of the Perennial Swap which will take place in September.

So if there's something you'd like to see happen, let any Board member know by email, in person, or even if you want to stop by the monthly Civic Association meeting. You can be the inspiration for the next great neighborhood tradition!

Social Memberships for Former Brook Park Residents & Field Club ResidentsThe Civic Association Board offers Social Memberships to past residents of Brook Park & Field Club Residents. A Social Membership offers the ability to participate in events and activities sponsored by the Civic Association and Women’s Club (does not include voting rights). Do you know of someone who would be interested in joining? Membership Fee is $30 per year. Checks are payable to: BPMCA and should be forwarded to: Lisa Kocent, 999 Broadmeadow Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. F o r w a r d a n y q u e s t i o n s t o L i s a K o c e n t @ [email protected].

Resale Certificates Available to Make Home Sales SmootherWhen you sell a house in an area covered by a Homeowner's Association, you are supposed to provide a document called a "Resale Certificate" that explains to the potential buyer the financial and legal status of the Association. The Civic Association Board has created this document for our neighborhood. It explains our voluntary nature and social organization functions, and also how the Brook Park Swim Club and its dues work. If you are selling your house, contact Brook Park Treasurer, Dennis Moul, for a free Resale Certificate for your property (some HOA's charge a lot of money for these, Brook Park provides them for free). Your realtor and your buyer will appreciate you having this official documentation in advance.

Please remember to provide your realtor and/or potential buyers with a copy of the protective covenants covering your Phase of Brook Park when selling your Brook Park home. Doing so will eliminate potential issues with the closing of your sale. A copy the protective covenants can be viewed and printed from the Brook Park website: www.brookparkmanor.com.

BROOK PARK NEWSLETTER www.brookparkmanor.com

A PUBLICATION OF THE BROOK PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION MARCH 2017, ISSUE 3

Neutrals: Stony Ground by Farrow & Ball The shade of a mushroom: a nice, fresh gray/brown/beige shade that’s calming and neutral. Looks great with pops of indigo blue or burnt orange. This is Country Living’s pick for “Next it color”. Poised Taupe by Sherwin Williams More of a medium gray with a little warmth of brown. Sue Wadden of Sherwin Williams calls it a “weathered, woodsy neutral that brings a sense of coziness and harmony.” Pairs very well with whites. Stone White by Farrow & Ball Clean, bright and anything but boring! Looks great with rich woods and pops of color. Or, keep things neutral with grays and beige.

Brights: Fiesta Yellow by Benjamin Moore Yellows in all shades are popping up everywhere this year. This lemon yellow is bright, fun and an instant mood enhancer. Great accent color. Greenery by Pantone Pantone’s “Color of the Year” is a high impact hue that brings the outdoors in. Designer Christina Murphy Pisa calls it an “acidic apple

green which is sophisticated but not too serious”. Flame by Pantone Pantone calls it “a red-based orange that is gregarious and fun loving. Flamboyant and vivacious this wonderfully theatrical shade adds fiery heat to the spring 2017 palette.” Agreed! Cloudberry-Olympic PPG, Olympic and Glidden are all naming violet as their color of the year. This one is a “serene, soft violet that conveys retreat from the pressures of daily life” says Dee Schottler of Olympic.

Warms: Byzantine Blue-Glidden An elegant, yet not too serious medium blue that pairs well with both whites and woods, greys and neutrals. A fresh, new shade of blue that is sure to please. Autumn Russet-Valspar This baked terra cotta shade is instantly welcoming. “The balance of orange and red with a splash of brown give this shade a warm, weathered look” says Sue Kim of Valspar. She recommends pairing it with sepia tones and deep metallics like bronze and pewter.

Ask a Realtor A Brook Park neighbor asked: “I am thinking of painting my home. It is overdo, but trying to pick colors is daunting. What are the “in” colors this year?” Thank you for your question! There is nothing like fresh paint to really spruce up your home for spring. Before choosing a paint color, consider your furniture, rugs and wall hangings. You want to choose something that’s going to compliment them. Here are some of my favorites for 2017:

I certainly hope you found these suggestions helpful and I wish you lots of luck with your paint color choices! Remember to have fun with your decorating, it WILL show in your happy home!
