Program Purposes

To prepare graduates possessing entry-level knowledge and skills for administering nursing care to diverse individuals and groups.

To provide students with a program of learning that fulfills the requirements of an Associate Degree in Nursing.

To help provide for the health care needs of the community by graduating individuals eligible for the licensure examination.

To provide a broad-based humanistic experience for the purpose of effecting self - actualization and ongoing personal development as a health care participant and a member of the community. 3

Nursing

• AAS degree; eligible to take NCLEX-RN exam

• 5-semester program (1 pre-clinical; 4 clinical)

• Clinical courses are sequential

• Clinical courses fall and spring semester only

• 24 credits of general education

• BIOL 111; BIOL 112; BIOL 213; ENGL 121; ENGL 122; PSYC 106; PSYC 208

• 40 credits of career studies

• 5 credits HESC

•HESC 107 AND HESC 105 or HESC 115 or HESC 165

• 35 credits NURS

• HESC 107 (entrance requirement & pre-req for NURS 171)

• BIOL 111 (entrance requirement & pre-req for NURS 171)

• ENGL 121 (entrance requirement & pre-req for NURS 171)

• PSYC 106 (entrance requirement & pre-req for NURS 171)

• HESC 105 or HESC 115 or HESC 165

• Classes in red earn credit in challenge

• STILL AA Health Science, Social Science Option Major

• NURS 171: Nursing Concepts 1 6 credits

• NURS 111: Professional Roles 1 1 credit

• NURS 125: Pharmacology 2 credits

• Classes in red earn credit in challenge

• BIOL 112 is a pre-requisite for 3rd semester (2nd clinical)

• Major changed to NURS

• Do courses taken at another college show on your transcript?

• NURS 172: Nursing Concepts 2 6 credits

• NURS 211: Professional Roles 2 1 credit

• PSYC 208 (Lifespan) is a pre-requisite for 4th semester (3rd clinical)

• NURS 165 (Issues) anytime after 1st semester. Offered during summer

• NURS 271: Nursing Concepts 3 7 credits

• NURS 211: Professional Roles 3 1 credit

• BI OL 213(Micro) is a pre-requisite for 5th semester (4th clinical)

• NURS 272: Nursing Concepts 4 5 credits

• NURS 212: Professional Roles 4 4 credits

ENGL 122 is a requirement for graduation. We suggest earliest possible semester and BEFORE NURS 165.

Summer I AP Challenge

• Attend orientation to challenge

• Pass math test

• Validate nursing skills

• Participate in simulation

• Attend library orientation

• Attend classes on transition to conceptual learning in nursing

• Complete Dept. of Health requirements for clinical

• Orientation to clinical nursing

After the AP Challenge

• Students will complete NURS 125 and NURS 111 in either SUIII or Fall semester after the challenge

• Students will enter semester 3 of the program after these courses have been completed

• Three 15 week semesters required before graduation

• Placement in fall or spring semester dependent upon seat availability and student preference

• Tuition and fees for 11 credits = $168.75/credit

• $1,856.25 approximate total based on 2017 tuition

• Tuition and General Fees: $168.75/credit

• Health Science Specific Fee $ 2000.00/semester

• Start-up fees (CBH, Physical, CPR, uniforms, malpractice, stethoscope, nurse kit)
