All aerobics classes are held in the Brookside Health and Fitness Center at Research Medical Center Brookside Campus. All classes begin with a warm-up, followed by a cardiovascular component, cool-down and stretch. Some classes also include strengthening and toning exercises. Classes are designed to meet various fitness levels, as noted.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
• BROOKSIDE LIFT - A highly efficient, full-body weight training workout using dumbbells and barbells to strengthen and sculpt muscle groups.
• CARDIO FIT - This high-energy, fat burning workout incorporates traditional high and low impact moves with athletic aerobic movements. You will have a great workout while working up a sweat!
• PUMP UP BROOKSIDE ONE & TWO - This strength training class puts the best of traditional weight room exercises to music in a group setting. You will use a combination of barbells, dumbbells, tubing and one’s own body weight, while alternating between upper and lower body muscles, creating a total body conditioning class. Level one is for beginners to intermediate, Level two is for more advanced individuals or someone looking for a really intense workout.
• PILATES - This mat based class focuses on strengthening the “core muscles” otherwise known as the abdominal and
back muscles. By learning to integrate both mind and body through proper breathing, strengthening and stretching exercises, one can achieve optimal benefits. Gain functional strength, tone and flexibility to power you through life’s daily movements.
• YOGA - This class focuses on the physical aspect of the ancient practice of yoga through use of postures and specific breathing techniques. Yoga helps to stretch and strengthen the body, improves mental and physical balance, increasing range of motion and improves circulation. All classes end with a relaxing meditation to calm the body and sooth the soul.
• NIA - Blending a variety of movement with inspiring music, Nia will pump your heart, lubricate your joints, strengthen your muscles, improve your balance, relax your mind and engage your emotions. This is a Non-Impact class, all ages welcome.
• OSTEOCISE - *Must have physician consent for this class. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a stability ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is available and used for seated and/ or standing support.
