Message from the Director
The vision of the County’s economic development office is to promote a vibrant economy by attracting and supporting businesses, as charged by the County Commission. The mission of our office is to stimulate overall economic development with a special focus on small business growth as demonstrated by our day to day activities. These activities create opportunities that support the quality of life and prosperity of our residents, businesses, tourists and seasonal residents. This report demonstrates our ability to fulfill those objectives. At OESBD, we not only want to meet expectations, but rather we strive to intentionally work with our businesses and community partners to supersede, expand, and surpass these opportunities. This is indeed our premise for doing business and growing business, Broward and Beyond!

Advisory Board
The Small Business Development Advisory Board was established by the County Commission in 2001. Its purpose is to provide recommendations to the County Commission and other government officials concerning enhancements to the County’s procurement activities and practices in support of small and disadvantaged business enterprises within Broward County. Meetings are open to the public.
Gateway to services that support growth and sustainability of Broward’s Business Community.
The Office of Economic and Small Business Development ensures federal and local regulations and policies for small businesses are followed by County agencies and contractors doing business with the County through Project Review, Contract Monitoring, Complaint Resolution and Prompt Payment Resolution.

Business Opportunity Act of 2012 Amended The County Commission passed a resolution amending the Broward County Code of Ordinances on May 8, 2018 as it relates to this act. Six-Month Outcome - Success Stories • A construction services received an $89,000
subcontracting commitment. They worked with a mentor to bid on the Broward County Hillsboro Mile Sanitary Sewer Improvements.• An electrical company won the bid for a line item cost
estimate on a solicitation with the help of their mentor. Without their assistance they would not have attempted to bid.
TEAM UP Broward Mentor-Protégé Program Launched: March 1, 2018
The goal of the program is to build overall capacity in Broward County’s economy by growing local small businesses through targeted and strategic technical assistance, leading to increased employment and local investment.

The Office of Economic and Small Business Development hosts two signature conferences annually; Broward and Beyond Business (#BizBeyond) and Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo (FITCE). The #BizBeyond goal is to advance the reach of our numerous business operations within and beyond the region via relevant and useful content delivered in multiple educational formats. FITCE’s goal is to expand Broward County as the premier importing and exporting trading capital, while helping to establish new businesses and nurture existing businesses to spur continued international growth.
